This tour is at the top of my list of favorite things I’ve done in Europe - ever! We were able to cover so much ground on the E-bikes, so we saw so much in one day (and it was all beautiful). John was very knowledgeable and made sure we were safe while adventuring all day. I highly recommend!

We had a wonderful private bike tour with John last week. John is very safety conscious and informative. We arranged for a pickup and drop off in his new van, a nice treat.
During the trip, John showed us all the wonderful spots around Salzburg and his knowledge about the sound of music was great. We circled all of Salzburg and he pointed out the locations of the movie. He also gave us ideas of other places to visit and eat in Salzburg. The e-bikes are high quality and they made the trip very nice. I think we traveled 40 kilometers during the day, but the e-bike made it a breeze. We also passed multiple other bike tours that day, each with between 12-22 bikes in the group! Our tour was much more intimate. If you are in Salzburg and are looking for a full day bike tour, John is your person!

We had a really fun day on the tour. John kindly picked us up and dropped us back to our accommodation which made the day easy, especially as we returned after dark. You really do get bang for your buck on John’s tour!
John is a knowledgable and entertaining guide and his easy-going style made it feel like we were being shown around by an old friend. As well as the filming stories and locations, an interesting addition to this tour is hearing more about the real Von Trapp family.
The e-bikes are high quality and a dream to ride. It is a great way to explore the green areas surrounding the city, especially if you have limited time in Salzburg.
Thanks again John for an unforgettable day!

John was a very thorough and knowledgeable guide and kept our family of 6 well entertained!! We loved his passion for the city and movie history and it was clear from his 20 years as a resident of Salzburg that he knew his facts. John will give you a comprehensive tour that other Sound of Music tours offered in the city will not, pointing out unique details and bringing you close to each location.

This tour is exactly as is advertised plus more! For any Sound of Music fan or anyone who just wants to explore Salzburg, this tour should not be missed! John is very passionate and professional making sure that everyone has a fantastic day. Before hitting the road, he is takes the time to make sure that everyone is fit perfectly to their bike and helmet and that each person is comfortable riding their e-bike. Early in the tour the group stops at a great little place to get some healthy food for a picnic lunch that is eaten later along the route. Throughout the entire tour, John makes sure that everyone is kept safe from the road traffic, pedestrians as well as other bikers. This tour even includes some “secret places” that John’s groups gets to see that the other guides don’t include in their itineraries.
The small group size that is exclusive to John’s tour really makes your day very personal and relaxing and was definitely the highlight of our entire two week European vacation! It more than fulfilled my lifelong dream of seeing the Sound of Music movie sights. By the end of the tour we felt like we had spent the day hanging out with an old friend who happens to know everything about Salzburg and the “Sound of Music”.
I highly recommend this tour!

When four adults (three over 60) who have never even seen the movie “The Sound of Music” sign up for the Trapp Family eBike tour, Geologist/Deadhead/Tour Operator John says, “Challenge accepted!”

And John delivers.

Surprise and delight lurk around every turn. And while no Trapp Family tour would be complete without the actual “sound of music,” don’t be shocked when the Beach Boys (spoiler alert!), The Grateful Dead and other musical guests show up to encourage you along the way.

This full day excursion is over twice as long as the other e-bike tour we looked at and it turns out it is much more than just a story about a famous musical. It is the Salzburg “full meal deal.”

Twice the stops.
Twice the stories.
Twice the fun.

“Supersize” your Salzburg experience with John and TrappFamilyBikeTours-dot-com

You must book this experience with John! He became a friend at the end of our tour with him :-) John’s sharing was excellent. He has so much passion in what he shares. It was fun exchanging thoughts and learning information with him about each’s culture too.

E-bike really gave us the opportunity to see beyond what our legs (literally by walking) could bring us in a day for our visit at Salzburg. While we are not super Sound of Music fans, it was also interesting for us his storytelling and sharing of the filming at various Sound of Music sites. Besides, the scenery at the places he brought us were all beautiful to take in (and kinda “healing” for people from the city).

He also helped us to take some lovely photos and not too much which we liked so we could be in and enjoy the present moment too (if you have different preference we are sure you could bring it up with him ;-) ).

John also took great care of our safety so not to worry about using the e-bikes!

We were a party of 5 women from Tennessee.. John was a great tour guide and loved the e bikes so much. It was a terrific way to see SO much of Salzburg and Sound of Music sites all while being on an amazing bike. We loved our lunch and enjoyed getting to know John and his experiences living in Austria.

I can’t recommend this excursion highly enough. John was a thoughtful, thorough, and entertaining guide. Get John talking and extend the ride- it is worth it. He knows a lot about Salzburg and the movie. The scenery was spectacular. I especially enjoyed riding through the countryside. You will see sites that no other sound of music tour visits. Along the way we did some real time research to confirm locations of particular scenes. We took time to make corny videos of us re-enacting a few scenes. This is a tour for hard core fans and people who want to explore the countryside and see more of Salzburg. It was a wonderful time we will never forget.

The e bikes made the ride easy. I think we rode more than 18 miles (Garmin ran out of power). It was easy for my 18 year old daughter and my middle-aged body even though we do not ride often or more than across a college campus.

It rained off and on during our ride, but it did not slow us down. We picked up a couple of ponchos from a souvenir store next to Mozart’s birthplace. We looked pretty funny, but it made the ride through the rain enjoyable.

We had a perfect day exploring Salzburg and its surroundings on this tour! John is a great tour guide who makes sure you have a lot of fun and take beautiful pictures. We learned all about Salzburg and the filming of The Sound of Music. The E-bikes make it very easy to cover many highlights without getting tired. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who loves The Sound of Music or wants to see the historic city of Salzburg.

John is an excellent tour guide, and his tour is a great way to explore the beautiful city of Salzburg. John is extremely generous with his time, and his knowledge of both the city and of The Sound of Music (fact AND fiction) made for a very enjoyable time.

If your looking for the best experience in Salzburg, look no further!! John takes you though a magnificent journey. As you ride on e-bikes in comfort you will go from the beautiful countryside to the city center. Along the way John will sprinkle in all the fun of the Sound of Music, history of Salzburg and glimpses into the daily life of locals. You will be very comfortable as the e-bikes do most of the work for you on this trip. John takes you to all the top filming locations and helps you to see the difference between the cinematic world and reality. Additionally, you will visit every one of Salzburg’s treasures even stopping to picnic! My husband and I rated this the top experience of our honeymoon and would highly recommend to anyone seeking a unique experience.

This is an extensive bike tour covering all things Sound of Music in Salzburg. John is a fun guy and will keep you entertained and informed throughout the tour. I highly recommend this particular tour because it covers more area and sites compared to other tours in Salzburg and the e-bikes are great. This is likely the most beautiful bike tour I've been on because of the scenic views. Knowing John is helpful for your stay in Salzburg because he can recommend other activities such as where to eat or concert venues.

The owner was extremely helpful during the planning of our trip and even during our trip with many details related to his bicycle tour. This tour was absolutely enchanting with a few extra locations that you just won't experience with any of the other tours. One in particular was an important one and I'm not going to mention it so it doesn't get ruined for future customers. Suffice to say the owner has inside knowledge and connections to go where other tours just don't go! The Ride was not exerting but was some good exercise to work off breakfast and lunch. I highly recommend this tour.

What a wonderful tour! We booked this while we were in Salzburg in August and couldn't be happier with our experience with John.

Truly one of the best tours we have ever been on, we had the best group. We didn't want a huge tour, we wanted something more intimate, less than 10 people and that is exactly what we got. Singing, bonding and biking all wrapped up in one day! We stopped and ate lunch all together and got to know more about each other and it was one of the highlights of the day.

The e-bikes were awesome and we really had such a good time with them we decided to buy two when we get home. Do not hesitate to book this tour!

Salzburg is stunningly beautiful and charming, but you may miss the best parts unless you do something like this. Getting on your bike and getting off the beaten track, (with the expert guidance of John - a local) meant that we could experience parts of the town that most people miss.
Just between you and me, you don’t need to be a huge fan of The Sound of Music to love this tour. The film locations we visited were a fantastic excuse to capture the essence of the city and the surrounding countryside. I’d recommend this tour to anyone.
John is clearly passionate about what he does and this comes out in his love and enthusiasm for Salzburg. You can’t help but share in the joy of the place with him.

I can highly recommend this tour! John is a very friendly and knowledgeable guide, having an enthusiastic passion for the city and especially all things, ‘Sound of Music’! The e-bikes were very easy to ride with the pace well-suited to the group, enabling us to see so many interesting sites across Salzburg, both film locations and a host of others I doubt we would have found on our own.

This is such an amazing tour - regardless of whether or not you’re a fan of Sound of Music. This is a fantastic way to see different parts of Salzburg that you would otherwise never see. The bikes are super comfortable and easy to ride, regardless of experience riding a bike. John was phenomenal - informative, patient, and truly focused on ensuring guest get the most out of the experience

John’s knowledge of Salzburg is incredibly detailed and informative, especially when it comes to the filming of the Sound of Music. Before taking the tour, I had not remembered much of what I had seen of the movie. However, John’s whimsically unique story-telling ability was all that I needed (and then some) to remember not only how great the movie was, but it also allowed me to become fascinated by the backstory of the actual Trapp family in real life. Definitely a worthwhile experience!
