Phuoc Hai whale cemetery

The Long Phuoc whale cemetery is just a short, pleasant drive/ride from nearby Vung Tau Island.
Even though the beach front burial site is always referred to as a whale cemetery, the inhabitants are dolphins. Whales, dolphins and swordfish are considered to be from the same powerful family.
A pack of dolphins washed up on the shore here some years ago, and the fishing families gave the dolphins a decent burial site and rituals.
Each creature was given a name.
This is all about animism, Vietnam's most popular religion. These creatures are now considered ancestors. They are powerful ancestors to have on your side. They are sure to bring worshippers luck.
