A very beautiful monastery in a stunning location. Very well looked after, lots of steep hills so make sure you have the right footwear.

I stayed one week in the monestary and can highly recommend for everyone who want to experience an authentic stay in a Vietnamese zen Buddhist monestary. When I was there, only locals were in the monestary and just a few could speak English. When they welcome you, you will be introduced in English. It's quite a strict timetable, but that's why you need to stay at least one week, to get in the flow. It's also practical if you did some meditation before, but there are also books and teachings in English available. After one week I didn't want to leave, because it was such an awesome life changing experience. It's a self-sufficient monestary, so there are working times, meditation, prayers and it's based on donation. The food is awesome, as they also enjoy the pleasure of good food.
If you want to join them, you can just come here and talk to the Abbot. You will get everything you need directly, like dorm bed and clothes.
I will come back for sure, when I'm in Vietnam next time. Thanks a lot to everyone and this amazing experience. I'm very grateful and will share my learnings with the world.

Good place to visit for tourists. Some stuff are pricey BUT some are really good. Go to the temple store and check out their obsidian beads bracelet. A lot of good stuff to bring home too. A quiet place to sit down and meditate. Best with friends and family.

A friend and I arrived at truc lam and were instantly greeted by the head layman who instantly knew we had arrived hoping to stay there for a few days. They were very accommodating and we quickly slotted into the daily routine of a lay person staying for 6 days, though I feel we could have stayed a bit longer if we wanted. Plenty of opportunity to meditate and a few Dharma books in english to study. Throughly enjoyed my time here, would recommend to anyone interested in seeing how the Zen practice of Buddhism works in an active monastry. Expect to be sweeping streets or other manual tasks for a short interval as a contribution, unless you have a skill which can be of better use. The food was outstanding and entirley vegetarian. They did offer to facilitate a western style breakfast which we didn't opt for :)
