Very helpful, fast service. Kind employees.
Transferring my credit to a new card was free and fast. Less than a minute!
There is no fee. Not sure what that other one star review was about.

Stopped in about 1 pm on the 5th of July, thinking it would be quiet. There were about 15 to 20 people ahead of me. The greeter efficiently sorted us into people looking for Charlie Cards, or Senior Cards, or Senior renewals. The office was air-conditioned and there was plenty of seating. The staff was cheerful and pleasantly efficient. 15 minutes later, I was on my way with a temporary Senior Card with a topped-up balance.

Friendly, efficient, quick service. Knowledgeable staff who explain the system and options. Delightful experience on my two visits here.

Apparently my timing was right on the mark. I did not have to wait more than a few minutes for my number to be called. The young man who processed my needs was pleasant and professional. I was in-and-out in under 10 minutes; Senior ID/Charlie Card in hand. A very positive experience considering it is part of the T.

Hours are limited and I have heard they are sometimes crowded, but I go on my lunch hour and have waited five minutes at most. Helpful staff. I wish that the whole temporary Charlie Ticket when replacing something like a Senior Charlie Card could be skipped, but that is not the fault of the store. Finding the store can be interesting but there are signs and the recent addition of staff in red sweatshirts at various stations to answer questions can help you find the store.

I was applying reduced fare pass today. By far it was the best experience I've ever had at any sort of government agency. Don't be fooled by the title of Charlie Card 'Store'. It's set up similar to the DMV, and you absolutely *must* read the MBTA website to see if it's the right day to conduct certain business (senior and disabled TAP passes, at time of writing, are handled on Tuesday and Thursday, from 8:30 AM to 1 PM. No other business is allowed. Those who were not in the right category were respectfully turned away.) However! If you fill out your paperwork right and follow the rules, you'll find it a pleasant experience. I didn't catch any names but the Latino man who was running the line to get in and the Asian man who took care of my paperwork were very pleasant.

I lost all my cards including the CharlieCard, reported it to a very helpful lady by phone who assured me that it would be replaced. She said I would hear from another member of the staff when it was ready to mail. This happened just as she said and I received a replacement card within a few days. I was also amazed to see the amount that was on the original card transferred to it. I don't use MBTA often but this was top class service all the way.

Please read entire review...
RESOLVED.... 🚌

When getting on bus tell driver you are paying reduced fare. The driver will set the onboard Fares Vending machine to $0.85
You must insert a $5 bill in the vending machine
(DO NOT INSERT A ONE DOLLAR BILL)
The fare vending machine will give you a Temporary Senior/T.A.P. Permit with the balance of $4.15 that is good for 30 days.
You will also have a TRANSFER valid for Two (2) Hour.

You can then add money to this paper ticket ONLY AT A STATION vending machine.
You can NOT add money on a bus vending machine to this paper ticket, ONLY at the large vending machines located at all train stations.

Below is original review I wrote....
(Here is my apology to all MBTA Employees)
Sorry... I now know you did not have training in this procedure until now... be good and I will see you all when the good lord takes us home.

The MBTA is discriminating against every elderly and disabled person that has been approved for reduced fare since this pandemic has started. Mailing paper tickets to us that get voided the first time we go to use it. Keep being told by bus drivers and station employees that I can not add money to paper tickets and they will not mail a hard card out to customers because we all need to have our picture taken at the Charlie Card Store that they know is closed, and seems to be closed indefinitely. Being forced to pay full price and not able to print transfers.
This has been going on for over 6 months now and seem to me not being resolved.
This is hurting the pockets of all elderly and disable people.
What is wrong with this system. You can have your picture taken for ID’s and drivers license but not for reduced fare MBTA cards.
I’m at a loss.

I've heard negative things about the store but I needed to stop there quickly and both employees were very friendly and helpful! A far cry from the RMVs around Boston. I was in and out quickly and it wasn't busy.

Very efficient despite their organization. They need two people redirecting people in line. One guy tied him up for 10 min just before they closed at 5.

In-station office upstairs from Red Line Downtown Crossing stop. They can help you with a smarttrip card, weekly/monthly pass, or youth/senior discounted tickets.

Great place to buy MBTA passes, but since the end of 2015, they are no longer transferring 7-day Link Weekly pass CharlieTickets to CharlieCards.
