I gave a 50% tip...no big deal. I don't want to brag, but I couldn't think of another way of showing people how generous I am. So I had to write a review about it. The only regret I have is that I didn't give a 100% tip. Then the cashier would have known that her service meant just as much to me as the actual food. I also would have looked like such a better person if I could tell people that sometimes I'll leave 100% tips. I probably would be perceived as 50% more of a better person. Anyways, for $2, the tamale I got was delicious.

Everyone was friendly and super helpful! THE place to buy meat. The sales for produce is awesome. I just wish they had coconut soda. Still 5 stars bc I realize coconut soda is not Mexican. It's Puerto Rican. I was just hoping.

FEB 2022: Construction on I-40 between Coors and 98th St, so get to El Mezquite via Central Ave.
This store, on corner of Central & 98th St, is 2-3x larger than the El Mezquite on 4th St, NW, so has a larger selection, such as spices. Also sells beers/alcohol, unlike the 4th St location. Both places offer similar depts, like the ready-made Mexican foods for indoor dining, a deli with cheeses and many freshly-made authentic Mexican salsas {try the Tatemada}, etc.
Look online for their weekly ad specials for super prices on produce {usually on jalapeños, onions, limes, avocados, bell peps; pineapple or guava or mangoes}, on meats/seafood, etc.
Try these for a healthy, economical, quick-ish dinner idea, especially when shrimp or taco/fajita meats are on sale:
SHRIMP CEVICHE:
Get the shrimp {I partially boil them}, pico de gallo from salsa deli, limes and avocados from produce; combine them for a large quantity of affordable seafood ceviche. Serve on tostada shells or with tortilla chips.
MEX STREET TACOS:
Get the diced taco meat that's on sale that week, and pick up the fresh corn tortillas to heat in a pan, + salsas & pico de gallo {& optional Cotija cheese} from deli, + limes , avocados from produce.
FAJITAS {often on sale}:
to grill or pan fry + flour tortillas + the various deli/produce accompaniments, like crema, lime, avocado, cilantro.

It's a fabulous place to get meat at a great price, and personally buy the cooked carnitas, it comes with fresh cooked corn tortillas, chopped onions, cilantro, and a freshly made green and red salsas.
