What an absolute treat!! The Old Mission General Store is a step back in time. If they dont have it, you probably dont need it. The proprietor is a hoot and a bit of a historian. Prices are a bit high, but it is a convenience store and I didn't mind paying. Can't wait to go back just to listen to James (Shamus) spin yarns about the people, places and products from the past.

The absolute best place to stop by and see on the Peninsula. Amazing Home made pizza and Pasties, great wine and Soda selection. The owners are great people and have kept the history of this store intact. It's almost like going to a perfectly preserved museum as well as an awesome store/restaurant.

Walked into Old Mission on the day after Thanksgiving to find this old timey store smelling heavenly of roasting pork. There were homemade cherry pies and beautiful cookies that were huge with very tasty cinnamon rolls in the case. For sure you can get many great choices for lunch or dinner here from the best corned beef or brisket to a deep dish pizza. The woman who owns the store is always pleasant and accommodating to my allergy. This is really a hidden gem for the best casual meals on the peninsula. I’m planning a coffee and cookie walk soon in the warm and interesting dining area. Always a great stop to enjoy.

This store was recommended to me by Atlas Obscura, and I’m glad I made a stop. The shopkeepers are very friendly and knowledgeable about the store’s history, and the place has a lot of neat food, drinks, and other items for sale. I had an old fashioned sour cream donut and also shared on of their extra-large cookies with a friend; both were delicious and reasonably priced. While eating in the side room, which apparently used to be a post office and gas station, we got to see an old wood-burning stove from the Kalamazoo Stove Company still in operation. Overall it was a great stop that felt like stepping back in time.

The ice cream was great! I found a ton of stuff for our road trip. It's like the perfect road trip stop, real stuff from real people. Friendly staff

12yr old Michigan cheddar! We love this little store. Great selection of local wines, a huge pickle barrel, old fashioned candy in barrels, giant ice cream cones, & aged Michigan cheddar. A must-see Traverse-area attraction.

Take a step back in time with this general store that still is in operation. Grab a few snacks, refreshments, sweet treats, or even a freshly made pizza as you explore the peninsula and head up to the lighthouse. A hidden gem off the main road for sure!

Takes a while to get your meal because it’s a small place but food was delicious and the staff were very warm and friendly. Burger was huge ( I am a small eater) as was the hotdog. The store is worth a visit for its quaintness.

All the reviews about the owner being rude and disrespectful, ignore them. The owner was nice, funny, and gave us a history lesson on the building. This is a must do if you are near the area, the food and merchandise is great.

A wonderful experience. The owner is such a people person. He made each one of us feel special. There are so many interesting things in the store. I bought Mary Jane candy, award winning Italian wine, baklava, one of the world's largest cinnamon rolls, and beef jerky. My son inhaled the cinnamon roll, so I don't have a picture.

Awesome store in the middle of nowhere. A must stop while on the peninsula. Life changing hot corned beef on dark rye with coleslaw. Would eat everyday if I could. One of the best corned beef sandwiches I've ever had. Also get a giant cookie add some homemade root beer

I highly recommend stopping by this old, nostalgic place. My son had a burger and it looked amazing. He said it was one of the best burgers he's ever had. So, definitely take the time to have one. You won't regret it. I had a "single" ice cream cone and it was HUGE. It's just worth it to make a stop to say hello to the owners and take in the historic nuance. A hidden treasure!

What an amazing escape back in time. Not only to a time when all things were mechanical or precious or beautiful but to a time when store owners took the time to know their customers and make them feel welcomed. We had an amazing time exploring the store as well as chatting with the owners who are an absolute delight. The history of the building all that is inside it is astonishing. Order the subs!!! They are worth the wait!

Stopped in for a snack after hitting the winery. I was worried because we had read some iffy reviews. Let me tell you, this place is a gem. It's a general store, it's not a Meijer. We had ice cream and a chicken salad sandwich. Jim was SUPER pleasant and was very kind to us, told us to make ourselves at home. I will definitely return. Don't listen to the Karen's!!!!
