Madison Hobby Stop

As others have said, great small but packed hobby shop still in Madison. Have been going there for a long time, especially for model railroading. The selection for anything from a small screw or set of trucks, or scenery models, or fully built models, or a full set and beyond continues to be great over the years. A decent amount of other models, plus rockets and pine-wood-derby supplies. Certainly worth a visit. Support our small shops!
In terms of atmosphere, there seemed to be a change with the ownership change some years ago. Over time, I found the current owners/staff are as pleased that one is shopping as anyone, they just seem to have quieter personalities. Once I realized this, I just starting initiating the conversation. They will help with any questions, research a question on line with you, and and respect your desire to quietly browse for a long time on your own if you like. That is wonderful for me.

Wow, the owner Chris has done a great job! What a wonderful shop that is rare to find. Models of planes, ships, and cars, as well as a huge selection of trains. I was looking for paints to fill out my paint set. Their prices beat Amazon! Definitely my go to place from now on.

They offer plastic model kits, paints, model train items, hobby building supplies and more. Looks like they have new releases & consignment items. Chris is very friendly & showed me around his store. Glad I stopped by!

Big selection of car, plane and sci fi models. Plastic card, paints and glue as well. But not much in the way of Gundam or other Japanese kits if you're looking for them.

Madison Hobby Stop packs a lot in for a relatively small space. They do a good job of ordering the latest and greatest, as well as maintaining a nice selection of hard-to-find items that are no longer in production. Prices are competitive with online shopping and, in some cases, are cheaper when factoring in the cost of shipping. They can also order almost anything that they don't have in stock.

I Love this place. It has a lot of choices. It has a working model railroad display. They also carry car, truck and plane models. Friendly staff.

Best hobby shop left in Madison. Used to do all my modeling with doc's hobby world and after they closed I spent years looking for a place as good. I found that and much more with hobby stop

A true hidden gem of the Madison area! I hadn’t done modeling of any sort in over a decade, and when I decided to get back into the hobby of model railroading this was the first place I went — and boy I’m glad it was! First and foremost, the staff have been extremely helpful and friendly every time I’ve been. It’s been a great place to get ideas and advice from people who are experienced in modeling and have similar interests! Secondly, there is a wonderful variety of items in store for fans of any kind of hobby. There are cars, trains, planes, and even rocket kits! And what they don’t have in store they can likely order for you! Lastly, the rates are extremely competitive and often times better than many other places I’ve seen, online shops included! Nothing but good things to say about Madison Hobby Stop, and highly recommend it to beginning and experienced hobbyists alike!

If you are a model railroader or are thinking of getting into the hobby, this is the place to visit. From rolling stock to models, they have all the essentials you need to set up a fine layout. I saw O, HO, and N scale trains and models represented. It's kind of like going to a small model railroad convention.

I actually went here to see if they had a particular screw for a pair of glasses. No where else had the size I needed but the guys at Madison Hobby Store helped me out! They let me try out a screw to make sure it worked before buying. Very helpful! Plus the store had some cool stuff to look at and shop around.

I've found what I need here, and gotten the help I needed. Really appreciate someone caring about the hobby enough to stock the small parts. Really enjoy chatting with the train repair man there on Fridays. While some of the staff may not be extroverts, they're very friendly if you take interest in the hobby. It's very clear to me from hanging around the store that they have customer relationships lasting decades. It's refreshing to find a place like this in today's world of algorithm directed commercialization. Subject matter expertise in retail is hip again.

By the way, they'll order anything for you if you have an ounce of patience and the prices are comparable to the online hobby places once you factor in shipping.

This is a great hobby store. It is smaller than some I have visited, but the selection is interesting and the people are nice. The next time I am in Madison, I will go there again.

Great customer service. Good selection for a small store. Just a good old hobby shop that still focuses on model railroading. My only complaint is the size- its small. I would love to see them grow into something larger.

Chris runs a very good hobbyshop, something that is getting rare to find. He has something for everyone whether it be model cars, planes, ships to my favorite... "model trains." Good supply of those essentials every model railroader needs especially when that modeler needs something now, not days later via the web.

Chris is great person to work and deal with,Chris , his customers are interesting to visit with. All ways like going there. He will order things you need or want. One of last good hobby shops left.

Best little hoby shop on this area. Been going here for years.Chris will order just about anything I need for my model rr. I like the ability to just go in and chat with fellow modelers as well as all the insite you can pick up from them. Great shop.....thanks Chris.

I’ve enjoyed Chris’s help & friendship for a long time. He runs a great hobby shop with stuff for train guys (like me!), but also model rockets, ship, plane, car, &!military models, plus much more!!
