Love the small town feel, but the big town quality. Their meat is always amazing, they're quick to want to please their customers and many of them know you by name. Although sometimes a tad more pricy than their larger competitors, you cannot beat the atmosphere and quality!

This small Central Lake grocery store was closing when the Corbitts rescued it. They have put a lot of money and thought into bringing more quality foods and keeping their meats and produce high quality. They have also kept jobs for local employees which would have been lost. I believe they will continue to improve and expand as much as they can.

Is there such a thing as a hole in the wall market? Anyways this market is amazing. For a small village market they have a phenomenal meat department and an excellent deli! I higly recommend the bacon wrapped pork fillets/Medallions. Great steaks too. Everything is a little tight, due to overall small size. However they have everything you'll need or mostly want. If they don't have it, they'll gladly order it.

Also in the summer into fall every other Friday the cook up some amazing Ribs, a must try.

The staff is always super friendly and helpful!

Overall a 5 star experience. Would I return? You bet I will.

The store was redone last year and what an improvement. Shelves are stocked, meats are fresh and Prices are better than most large supermarkets. Worth a trip...see for yourself. They also have Fresh Pet.

I’ll preface this with stating that this is my experience with this store. Your experience may be very different. And remember all experiences are subjective.

Village Market (VM) has three locations. I normally visit the Central Lake store, but occasionally the Elk Rapids store which is much bigger with many more food selection options. For the purpose of this review I’ll concentrate on the Central Lake location. The store has a clean, well-kept exterior but has a small parking lot and an awkward entrance ramp which curves uphill and can be slippery. While the Central Lake store participates in the VM gasoline discount club, they don’t have gas pumps – so I save them from their Elk Rapids facility.

The interior of the store is always clean and straightened. There’s not a lot of choices for certain products, but that’s understandable for this charming store’s size.

The staff always seems happy and welcoming. They usually initiate a “hi!” or “how are you” as I enter the door. The isles are not super wide, but stock employees are more than willing to step aside to let you pass. They also offer the service of carrying your groceries to your car for you at no charge. They also have Senior Wednesdays which offer 5% off for those over 55 as well as a Veteran’s discount program.

While not chilled, they have quite a variety of 2 liter sodas which rotate on sale nearly every week.

They have plenty of breads and chips, but the dairy section is fairly small. The butchers do a superb job on cutting and cleaning meats for presentation. They’re very good at trimming-off extra fat – improving the quality of their meats (especially pork products). The butchers are also great at taking special requests (eg: could you slice me a 2” thick ribeye steak?”. They also pretty regularly keep both freshly sliced beef liver and lamb chops available. The meat case is fairly small, but well stocked.

They carry standard vegetables, but rarely anything of a scarcer variety. Frozen foods are somewhat limited, but a nice variety. Same with their liquor isle. They do have a nice selection of wines, but not so much for beer.

All-in-all you can’t go wrong at the Central Lake Village Market – just don’t expect the same variety selection as the larger competitor.

I love this store. I can't wait till they are able to expand and add a gas station. On Christmas Eve, during the power outage, they stayed open and handed customers flashlights so that they could finish their last minute shopping. I had no cash, just my debit card, so they wrote my name and purchase amount down and told me to come pay them later on. Now, when's the last time that happened to anyone in the city? I'm willing to guess never. I'm really thankful that this store and these kind people are here in our town.

Love the remodeling that the new owners are doing: flow of the store is wonderful. Also, the new focus on gluten-free and vegetarian offerings is very much appreciated!

The stores in Elk Rapids and Rapid City are quite a bit bigger, but also alot more people too. The Central Lake location has been making vast improvements imo with appearance and selection of products. I do however wish there were more organic options of products. Overall it's a good grocery store, usually has pretty good sales.

Experienced what I thought was car wash problems. Turns out that was not the issue. The important part of this is that Kevin met me at the carwash and helped clean the "road paint" off my car. He went above and beyond and I truly appreciate it.

Small town market, but has everything I need, most of the time. Sometimes I am looking for an obscure ingredient, and I have to go to a larger market, but 98% of the time I find what I'm looking for! Very friendly folks, and very helpful. Recommend this market.

Best Grocery store in Northern Michigan. Blows Family unfare away. 5 miles to Family unfare. 11 miles to Village Market I'm driving the extra 6 miles.
