Half Price Books

This place isn't just another bookstore; it's a long-standing institution, serving Dallas for decades. I remember shopping here when I lived in Dallas back in my 20s, and it was the place to be then too.

The place is huge, the selection is amazing, and it's one of the few bookstores where there are still tables and chairs for you to sit and peruse a book before buying, or bring in your outside work and enjoy the atmosphere while you get something done. I don't even know how many tables there are here, but it's a lot, and in every size. So even if you need to meet in a large group, there's space.

The place is just amazing and so is the staff. They go way out of their way to help you find what you need.

The security guard also helped me once try to fix my car when it broke down in the parking lot, and the manager was very lenient in giving me time to get someone out there to fix it, rather than call a tow truck on me. I really appreciate that.

A real gem for book lovers! The first place my family visited when we relocated to Dallas and that last that we visited before we left. Definitely recommend to book lovers and those looking for gifts. Every outlet has something to offer in my experience so I recommend visiting different ones if you have time.

Very nice workers at the desk and moving through the isles. Was a bit busy at the time (around 1PM) but I'd attribute that to the lead up to Christmas. Awesome place for some rare anime, movie, and book finds.

I actually visited a different location for Half Price books and they referred me to this location. I called ahead to ensure the book was available and the person checked for the book and then pulled it for me to pick up when I came in so I didn't have to search for it! I was able to get in and out in less than 5 minutes

I saw Half Price Books when I shopped at REI nearby. I can't skip a visit to a HPB I've never been to before.

It's a nice store. A mid-sized version. Not as big as my NW Hwy store but thats a flagship.

Vinyl is in. They had a good selection. Vintage and remastered, new stuff, too. I ended up buying a couple of classical CDs for cheap.

I'm listening to an Audible lecture series on ancient civilizations of North America, so I checked the archeology section. Picked up a new book that included the Olmec people, which interests me.

No wait to pay. I'll be back when I'm in the area again.

You can find DVDs and Blurays for super cheaper compared to other stores. They even have some video games that are fairly priced.

Very nice selections. My daughter wants to go back already to buy more books.

I love half price books!! I usually go to a diff one but I haven't gone to this one in a while.. the people at this one are friendlier than the one I usually go to but I like the selection there better... But the people are very nice!

This visit was my second Half Price Book store visit in a week. I came to pick up a book I just couldn't wait to get. 💓 ....
When I walked into the store I was promptly greeted and asked if I needed help.... then correctly directed to the section I was looking for. There were two young ladies in that area straightening the books ; chit-chating. They immediately stopped talking and greeted me and asked if they could help me find something ..... 💞 This was a great experience everyone was a pleasant interaction and helpful ; this is what CUSTOMER SERVICE LOOKS LIKE !!!

Helpful, friendly staff and eclectic selection of books and gifts. The book I needed was half the price here compared to Amazon for hardback.

So many books, such great pricing and so little time to inspect every nook and cranny .

I'm giving this location 5 stars. Fantastic inventory, great staff! They had a large collection of Stephen King and a really good lot of Ken Follett books. I was like a kid in a toy store when I got to "J" and noticed an especially large inventory of John Jakes, which is something you don't see much of these days. I snagged many up and most were like $2.50, beautiful copies too!

I went in for Lonesome Dove, which they did not have available on the shelf. I perused on and bought others. As I was leaving and after checking out, I noticed some box trays labeled "to be priced" and right there was an old nice mass market copy of Lonesome Dove. I explained to the girl that I originally came in for that book, and no problem, she priced it straight away and I got it for $4.

Last thing, I notice many of the low star reviews are over their low-ball offers for buying books. Now I've never sold my books, I keep most of them, but consider the overhead costs of these stores, their bills, the staff they pay etc. It's the same story with GameStop (not a fan) and other brick and mortars. They need to cover overhead and at least make some profit.

Anyway, this one is a good location, great selection and helpful staff who seem to always enjoy their job.

My kids blow through books but they want to build up their personal libraries and this is the perfect solution. Books are always in good condition and a fraction of the price of retail!

I have been a patron of Half Price Books for years! I have been coming to the Plano location recently and found an array of vintage books along with a recent purchase of Venom- 1st Edition comic book. My favorites by far has been The Book of Numbers, Merck’s 1899 Manual, The Human Face of Data and Remembering Frank Sinatra.
Phenomenal steals at $3!

This used bookstore chain is great. Perhaps not as fun as a truly quaint used shop with one location that is the proprietor's house...

But there's always something awesome to find at a HPB.

It was ok but the prices were not what I expected- still kind of pricey.

I love going here alot of books to chose from. Everytime I go here I end of staying for longer than I planned.

I enjoy stopping by to browse before movies at Alamo. Not just the great book selection, but I like seeing what new Action Figures/collectables have been traded. Also hoping I'll find a Slayer CD some day.
