1836 Kitchen and Taproom

We ordered shrimp & grits (barely any grits on my plate and mostly bbq sauce. should not have been served with shrimp tails on with that type of dish and ill-prepared beet salad with very dry salmon. Neither one of our dishes were impressionable and definitely not worth over $20 each. Drinks were mediocre. Music entertainers were way too loud for that small of a restaurant. I'm a local but won't be returning. Our $100 meal was not worth the money we paid. Very disappointed. Truffle frites were fairly good but need more seasoning.

We returned to 1836 with the $40 gift card sent to us by the manager, and we were not disappointed. The house burger was delicious, fries, and the steak quesadilla. Thank you, Management, for the opportunity to make it right! My only suggestion this time is to maybe keep the music down a bit lower during the day. The louder the music is, the louder people talk at their tables. It's a smaller space so it can get really loud in there very quickly. Great food, we'll be back! :)

I have only been here one time, but I will definitely be back! 1836 is a casual, comfy pub with great food, great service, and a friendly crowd.

At our server's suggestion, I had their smashburger which was delicious. It came with some excellent french fries, and for dessert their homemade banana pudding is amazing.

Super cute little place! Lucked upon this place while traveling to Gettysburg for lunch.
Highlights:

- Plenty of TVs all set to a different sport.
- Diverse draft beer selection.

Ordered the loaded Weiner, my guy got the mustard version. Easily the best dog I've ever had! The pretzel bun totally stood up to the chilli, regular cheese and beer cheese with style.

Service was delightful.

The place is not too big, about a dozen tables inside with about 15 places at the bar. Outside has an awesome bar and I imagine that it's the place to be in warmer weather.

We'll definitely see if our detour takes us this way again.

Good food. Seems alittle limited on some stuff we asked for but was still a great place to relax and have a drink. Will definitely be going there more and only 10 minutes from our home in Brunswick. 5 stars definitely..

A restaurant to enjoy a plate of ribeye steak with shrimp, the perfect cooking time, the delicious flavor, the soft meat. the service fast and very friendly. the place clean. the atmosphere very nice. ask for the suggestions of the place to enjoy a good meal.

We love this place! The food and atmosphere are great. We have been going here for a few years and the experience is always the same, just awesome. One time I grabbed a spot at the bar and sat next to one of the owners. I didn’t know it until we started to chat. He was the nicest guy and a perfect host.

We happened upon this spot. We entered the taproom and experienced what I knew to be the lovely scents of truffle fries. I knew then we were in the right spot.

Excellent beer collection. Lovely cocktails. My Bloody Mary was stuffed with large shrimp and pork belly. It was heaven.

I went with the pork schnitzel and my companion had a breakfast burrito (it was Sunday around lunchtime and they had a few brunch offerings).

The truffle fries were amazing. After smelling them as we entered I had to have them. We snacked as we waited for our entrees. No need for ketchup on this babies. Perfectly crispy and so flavorful with a dash of aioli and scallions.

Excellent beer list. We sampled things and the waitstaff was super friendly. She made excellent suggestions too. They had some very unique brews we had never seen, and we get around, so we were impressed. They have happy hour and it looks like they have an outdoor bar with seating for warm days.
Love this spot. Definitely worth trying.

I can't even remotely tell you how amazing this place is! We were welcomed as family and they made us food even though they had just closed the kitchen. Jason made an amazing plate of BBQ wings, shrimp seviche, and burgers. Bill brought a delectable banana pudding for dessert. Chris makes an awesome Dirty Shirley. It totally made our night. We will definitely be back. You made the start to our anniversary weekend incredibly memorable. You totally rock!

We ventured from Frederick to Brunswick, MD and into Lovettsville, VA last weekend. To kick off the meal we shared a bowl of MD clam chowder. I read some of the reviews and ordered a burger with shoestring fries. My spouse got the fish with fries and we shared to experience the food. It was outstanding- the burger was fresh and moist and the fish had a good crispy coating that was delicious. The place was very quiet for lunchtime but we had a good experience. To wrap up the meal I had the homemade banana pudding with a chessman cookie. Outstanding again! We will definitely be back to try other items on the menu. They are disability friendly with their access ramp. The only downside is no outdoor seating. Happy eating.

I have ordered many things from the menu over the past few years - everything has been excellent. Service is friendly and efficient, food fresh and delicious.

A local but I won't be back. Our meals were not to par at over $22 a plate. The musicians were too loud for that small of a space. Drinks did not leave a good impression either. Most waitstaff ignored us when we tried to flag them down to get our overpriced meal paid for since our waitress was MIA. Our meals were not properly prepared were not worth the $100 tab by the end of the night. Best part of the meal was the Truffle frites appetizer which needed more seasoning, quite plain with just drizzled truffle and scallions. My suggestion is stick to ordering the simple bar menu items like burgers & fries.

**Update, owner has sent me a $40 gift card for a 2nd chance to make it right, which I appreciate** I'll share my experience after I've had another meal at 1836. I've spoken to several locals and they raved about how good 1836 was. Perhaps it was our menu choices that need tweaks on plating or we just need to stick with burgers and fries. I'll update my review after I've visited again for a meal..

Update, enjoyed our meal with our $40 gift card. We stuck to a burger and quesadilla but they were both very good!! I have updated my review. We'll be back sometime:) Thank you 1836 for making it right with the gift card.

We had an excellent lunch at 1836 Taproom today. Had not been there since it opened and were pleasantly surprised at how nice the inside is now. Husband had the Schnitzel, he enjoyed it. I had the burger, and i have to say... best burger ive had in ages...! The meat is top notch.. excellent smoky flavor, super juicy despite ordering medium well (makes some folks cringe, i realize! )... nice sized burger, fat slice of cheddar, some greens, a really tasty garlic aioli, and a toasty bun. Fries were also delicious dipped in the garlic aioli.

Lunch was a tiny bit on the pricey side, $43 for 2 including the above and 2 drinks & tip. However... there is nothing else this good for miles around Lovettsville. Service was friendly & attentive. I loved it 😁

We ate here on our way home from Harper’s Ferry and we hope to have an excuse to return here, food was amazing! Staff was very friendly and you can tell this is a spot local folks just love from the vibes we got. They do have pretty nice sized outdoor seating with heaters and a little bar, and indoor seating that is currently well spaced out due to covid. TVs with all the games on, a great beer selection, and some interesting looking cocktails for good prices. The food was really tasty. We got the pretzel, very good with the cheese sauce, pulled pork sandwich, and the beef sandwich that was absolutely incredible!!! They have brunch as well and we hope to try that sometime. Great spot! Check it out if you’re in the area.

The service and food were outstanding (especially the shrimp and grits). The craft beer selection was also great. Having a flight provides patrons a great way to taste different types of craft beers. Drekker Ectogasm IPA is my new goto IPA.

Absolutely the most pleasant staff ever, and the food is amazing. It was cold and wet out today, and their Texas chilli hit the spot, desert was great too. If you havent stopped in here before you really need to. Parking is in the back.

Delicious food and.cocktails.combined with excellent service. The fried chicken sandwich and truffle fries were really tasty.along with the fried cauliflower appetizer. Highly recommend and will return again!

Spent a day to myself. Went for a bike ride and stumbled across this place for lunch. What a perfect day. The lunch was amazing, the service was fabulous and the price was right. Thank you for a rare treat and day to myself!

Loved the atmosphere, food and service was amazing! I will definitely make the hour drive to eat here again!

Really enjoyed our evening at 1863, hung out at the bar waiting for a table but the staff was super helpful and the old fashion was really good and then enjoyed some local cider. Such a great evening and highly recommend visiting.
