Nisswa Area Historical Society

Lots of history to see and read about. First building is free. Others cost money, but are well worth it (only $5 for a family, $2 for an adult, and under 10 years old is free). Buildings are between 100-150 years old and are furnished as they would have appeared.

Be sure to read the descriptions of each house (German, Norwegian, and Swedish). There's also a one room schoolhouse that is amazing.

This is a really neat local place that has original homesteads from the folks who settled in Nisswa and artifacts from all throughout the region’s settled history. We visited for the Nisswa Stämman and were pleasantly surprised that the location was almost as interesting as the event.

I’d definitely recommend taking the time to visit the exhibits if you’re in the area, you’re never likely to see something like them again.

Really well-preserved village. Very reasonable admission ($3/adults, $2/kids). My kids enjoyed running around the grounds and looking in each of the different cabins, one set up for Norwegian settlers, one for the Germans, and one for the Swedish settlers. There is also a school house. Down/across the street is the train depot and a train car you can walk through.

Attended the Nisswa Viking Festival, i was helping the bowyer run an archery range and had a fabulous time, i also didnt find out about it until he asked me to help him the Monday before, so it might have mussed on the advertising, than again i heard they ran out of wrist bands so maybe i messed up, amazing grounds close to the highway but never once did i noyice it over the course of the day, or the vikings fighting mught have helped with that. Great place and the near by has a little downtown area that i wish i had more time to check out out the entire area but had to hit road again.

I love this place! The staff gave us so much info about the town and its history and made learning about it fun!

Very underrated place, it is fun to see a town from the 1800's in life. Especially with the Scandinavian Fair

After you are done buying your candy and ice cream at the Chocolate Ox take a walk down the street and see the buildings and displays showing the history of the area.

Visited during the light of the village. Great family fun night.
