Mesquite Camp Area

Very scenic campground in the canyon. Views are excellent. Definitely recommend. Bathroom is old but clean.

This campsite wound up being perfect for us. We came with family who had the site next to us. It was pretty quiet. There is no road noise and barely any air traffic. The skies were mostly cloudy at night so I can't weigh in on the stars. There are trails all over and even more accessible from this campground if on a bike. Sites and surrounding areas were very clean. Picnic table is covered and in a way that compliments the area. We absolutely loved it here and are planning to come back.

Unbeatable views! Be aware there is a steep 10% grade road to travel if you have an RV or Trailer. There's lots of places within the campground to investigate, let alone throughout the park. Fire ring with cooking grate, covered tables, water, electric, fairly clean restrooms and showers. Expect to hear coyotes in the late night hours.

Solid choice for a campsite in the park. We checked in late and it was a really simple process to just print our reservation details and follow instructions. Clean bathroom/showers close by. We chose a campsite which included a picnic area and a parking spot. There are other sites with rv hookups too. No cell service out here so download maps ahead of time. You’ll have to drive far into the park to get to this campsite so on the way out you can hike plenty of trails along the way.

This campground is so well run and maintained. Made so many great memories with my family and extended family. The volunteers were well informed and a special thanks to the volunteers supporting the lighthouse trail who had water for us and helped bring water to us as we were trying to get back.

Enjoyed the park on our 4 night stay. We stayed in the Mesquite camping area which is situated towards the end of the park. It was quiet and there were plenty of trails to go exploring. Other than the burn ban I'll be visiting again.

Best camping at Palo Duro Canyon State Park

First time to Palo Duro, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience camping in Mesquite. We were pretty close to the shower house, so that was convenient. The shower house itself is well kept and clean. The weekend we were there, the park was sold out, but the shower house was never busy. I recommend that location, and will try to stay there again the next trip out.

Beautiful park! So much than I expected. Will definitely be going back. All campsites have a great view!

Great set up and space. My favorite part was the geodes that can be found near the base of the mountains. They absolutely speckle the area and can easily be identified. Very plentiful and fun. Just remember not to take them out of the state park!
Reminder that dogs are allowed in the campground area. We had some when we went geode hunting, and they loved exploring the area as well!

Great campsites and a great campsite manager who keeps the facilities clean. We have been full time RVing for a while and was quite delightful to take a hot shower for more than 2 seconds, especially since it was to drop to 10 degrees that night.

The best camp site to stay in Palo Duro. Most elbow room, best views, located all the way inside the park. Big rig friendly. Nice showers. Cell service was available there as well. Pics are from mesquite camp area.

The views are fantastic, the areas to hike around are plentiful. They also provide a shaded picnic table.

This is a wonderful place to walk and bike the view is beautiful

Hopefully you'll have the chance of waking up to snow on your campsite. It was very nice and made for a perfect holiday treat. Don't worry about the hill on the way up just put your truck in gear and get it done.

Great campground with amazing views and hot showers.

This place is breathtaking. I cant get enough! Having a real hard time leaving here. During the day it is hot, but the breeze through the canyon makes it 10x better. The park is very clean and kept up with. I met a couple of rangers who couldn't have been nicer! Thank you for making this trip so memorable!
