In July of 2023 my wife and I found a SmartStart home listed online, and drove two hours to Shullsburg, WI to see it. Henry Goebel, the broker/owner adjusted his schedule and met us there that same afternoon. We made an accepted offer and closed a week later. Henry is a true professional, he builds very high quality and well laid out new homes, at very competitive prices. The few minor issues we found were taken care of very quickly and responsibly by his extended team. We highly recommend him and the homes he builds!

Bought a new house from Smart Start Homes in May of 2018, the entire experience was great from beginning to end and Henry was a pleasure to work with. We have been very pleased with the quality of the construction and are always getting compliments.

Bought a house from Henry Goebel in January of 2022. He showed me the house and an offer was already accepted. With that being said, there were MANY things unfinished before it should have EVER been shown: exposed nails around the perimeter of the opening of the garage, leftover building material left in the garage, knicks and dings and missing paint in almost every room, building debris/drywall in every window sill and INSIDE the vents (i had to vacuum every single one out). Here were the main issues… No dryer vent installed (where was it supposed to vent to?!), crack in floor of foundation (he said it happens… there was standing water in the basement for weeks without me being told), ruts in the yard from poor landscaping/grading, yard was scarcely seeded ($150 worth of seed i had to buy), garage door wasn’t sealed right (gap of light coming in and someone had to come out), seamless siding on the side of the house but not front (what?! Haha) bulge in siding in back (still not explained and promised to come out “when it got warmer” it’s June now…)

Long story short, Henry likes to build quick, cheap, with little regard for fit/finish/clean-up/double-checking and he wants to take your money and move on to the next rushed house. I would never recommend him even IF he responded to my unanswered texts and calls. Condescending and will ghost you eventually. Shame on you Henry….
