Surfside Recovery Services

I have collaborated with Surfside for a little over 3 years and have referred many older adolescent clients to them for structured sober living and extended care services. Trusting a program with older adolescent clients, recommending the program to their parents, and feeling confident about my referral can be really challenging- not with Surfside. I have seen unbelievable change, growth, maturity, sober time, confidence building, physical fitness, and positive male role modeling from peers and staff who really walk the walk and not just talk the talk.

The communication from Surfside leadership is top notch, they always keep me posted on progress of referrals there and celebrate milestones with us. In the adolescent recovery world, it’s rare to see the type of success I have seen with Surfside (I consistently get celebratory updates of teens achieving 6 months, 1 year, 18 months of sober time- graduating high school- getting their first real job- learning new sports and skills- and building their confidence)

The staff also genuinely care about supporting the success of their residents and believe in what they do. They have gone above and beyond many times to make their services supportive and accessible to clients who really need them. They continue to expand their programming to support the clinical, sobriety, and life growth of each client in their care.

And most importantly- the feedback from clients I have sent, as well as their parents, has been that Surfside helped created lasting change in their life for the better. They feel supported, cared for, and like they are part of a real community. I would whole-heartedly recommend this program to young adults or older adolescents looking to change their lives, get sober and mentally healthy and mature into a confident young man they can feel proud of.

For professionals looking for really solid long term programs to support their clients- have a conversation with the leadership or staff and you will quickly see why I have recommended this program many times and will continue to do so!

After a handful of years, a handful of programs, therapists, and family tragedy including the death of his father and the battle his little brother fought after being diagnosed with a brain tumor, sobriety seemed impossible for my oldest son. My therapist personally vouched that if there was a place where my son would get the help he needed, it was Surfside Recovery. She vouched for the facility itself, and the integrity and commitment of the Surfside team, and she was spot on.

My son has spent the last 6 months at Surfside. He's a new person. He has clarity and goals, and is someone I look forward to hearing from each day; which, for a long time, was not the case.

I hate to even refer to the members of the Surfside team as "staff" because it feels stiff. Every team member I have dealt with has carried themselves with a perfect balance of professionalism and kindheartedness. They have shown my son that they care, but they have also shown him that there are consequences for irresponsible behaviors. Truly incredible. It is not an easy task to make a recovering addict accept that there are consequences, and at the same time continue to make them feel comfortable and supported enough to follow the rules and/or not act out when consequences are given!

Surfside has been an experience that has truly changed our lives in the best of ways.

Our son has been sober for just over two years now and that never would have happened without the staff/program at Surfside. My wife and I speak so highly of Surfside, without effort, because you helped us through the most difficult time in our lives. We were clueless as to what addiction was and how one was to recover from it. We were clueless about the fact that we, as parents, also needed to start our own recovery process. Everyone at Surfside, from staff to the parents in the parent group, took us under their wings, without judgement, and showed us the way. For two years we have been attending the family support groups at Caron and Surfside and have leaned on so many parents and their experiences to help us get through. Now, thank God, we are in a position to give back and we look forward to doing so with every chance we get. We pray Surfside continues to be there for others the way they were for Nolan and us.

My son graduated from Surfside in the fall of 2021. Since completing Surfside, he has returned to college and is enjoying a sober life. He made long lasting friendships in the program which help to support his recovery. Surfside provided him with the tools he needed to build the life he wants for himself.

Thanks to Surfside I recently celebrated one year of sobriety, something I could even come close to on my own. Surfside showed me what sobriety takes and taught me life skills and lessons along the way. The staff is great and mostly alumni of the program who can relate to and understand the residents. I can't say enough praise about this program and what it has done for me.

Surfside is an incredible program and has created an amazing community of sober alumni, mentors, friends, and participants in the area. Without the entire scope of the program that has been created there, without the leadership and community and structure, I don't think I could have learned the fundamentals of sobriety and actually started building a healthy life of any kind.
I have stayed in the area for almost five years after the program. The community of alumni, participants, and leaders have created an amazing community and culture of giving forward and giving back. Surfside has built something great and it's a privilege to be a part of it.

Surfside gave me the tools necessary to successfully maintain sobriety in the real world. I used to be a chronic relapser who was homeless, scared and had given up but at the same time knew this life of running from fear was not for me.
I had tried getting well with countless other treatment centers and programs but Surfside really gave me that extra push that helped me get comfortable with being uncomfortable which was a huge part of what was holding me back from achieving long term sobriety. They also were the reason why I was able to stay clean for as long as I did after my father passed away after only being at surfside for 2 days.

Our son is doing so very well thanks to Surfside and the work he has done with Surfside. Because our son left home and went to Surfside at such a young age, he had to grow up quickly. Our son has matured more than his brothers that are years older than he is. Remarkable how much our son has matured and grown in just the year he has been at Surfside. He left home as a boy and is now a young man. The entire experience has caused me to reevaluate how I raised all of my kids in the sense that I have learned that I did way too much for our kids and we should have instead let them do more for themselves, struggled more, worked more, gained more independence - all the things that our son experienced during his time away from home while at Surfside. I think our son being surrounded by other young men that were older than him (while he was at Surfside) also provided him with a lot of good role models to emulate.

I still vividly remember the time a little more than a year ago my wife and I were broken and in despair, while we traveled to NJ to visit Erick Giunta, Dan Miranda from Surfside, and others of the Surfside team. We were so broken and so scared of sending our 17 year old son to Surfside. The staff at Surfside explained all the reasons why it was necessary to send our son to Surfside. We took what was a leap of faith at that time for us - and we did it. One of the hardest decisions - AND THE ABSOLUTELY BEST DECISION - I ever made in the life of my wife, my son, and myself.

Words are incapable of expressing my gratitude and respect for the help our son received from Utah Amaike, Dan Miranda, Erick Giunta and the rest of the entire Surfside team.

Awesome experience at Surfside Recovery! I was one of the First Gentlemen over 40 to get into and graduate the program at Surfside .It was life changing! Shout out to Ian, Alyssa ,Dan, Erick ,NickyG, BDK, Utah, Russo ,Big John, Kalo, Tom, and Stu!! I’m coming up on 2 years sober , getting to start my own business. Could not be any happier! Thank you for the support and the spiritual DISCIPLINE..that I needed….

This program is absolutely life changing. My son graduated from Surfside in January and we are forever grateful to the staff at this program. My son had been to 5 other programs over the years and nothing ever stuck. SurfSide not only help him maintain his sobriety but they taught him how to be a responsible adult and to take accountability for his life and his choices. The program is perfect for young active men and ofers them lots of high energy and fun activities that help them learn that being sober does not mean not having fun anymore. Learning how to live and have fun sober is an important component of this program. They have their own crossfit gym, surfing school, paddle boards, bikes, kayaks, an 11 acre property for camping with an airsoft and paintball fields in addition to a property in Vermont where they take them to ski in the winter and hike in the summer. They learn to cook, clean, budget, manage a household, write a resume, do mock interviews, find a job, and so much more. The staff is supportive but hold firm boundaries for the residents. My son is now a staff member and is the healthiest and happiest I have seen him in years.

When I checked into Surf Side I didn’t just check into a structured sober living, I checked back into reality. Surf Side gave me the tools and knowledge to achieve permanent sobriety with helpful friendly staff whos doors are always open. Making life long friends and having an awesome time being sober. This place is the real deal 10/10

I have worked in the addiction treatment field for the last decade and have known Surfside’s Executive Director, Ian Koch, for just as long. It has been a great experience to watch Surfside grow in to what it is today. I have referred a number of people to Surfside including my own family and close contacts. I believe in what they do and the help they are offering men in recovery.

My son Joe had been to a dozen treatment centers, many of which promised me the world. He had been to so many he knew more about addiction and relapse then most counselors. Surfside gave Joe the opportunity to learn how to apply what he had learned and equate that to true Recovery and a life of real purpose. He also learned how to enjoy the things he loved before his addiction stole everything from him all over again such as Surfing, Hiking and music. He celebrated 4 years sober in September and I’ve had the gift of watching him become the man I always knew he could be. Through Joe receiving the structure, accountability and life long friends developed at Surfside I’ve gotten my family back. He’s become an amazing Son, Brother, Uncle and overall contribution to those whose lives he touches everyday. I highly recommend Ian and his whole crew.

Our son went to Surfside. They literally saved his life. I cannot imagine finding a more compassionate, caring place for drug and alcohol recovery. If your son is willing to listen and do the work Surfside will change his life and the lives of your entire family.

This is the perfect program for young men who are serious about getting sober, and turning their lives around. Getting into this program I knew that sobriety was the end goal, what I didn’t expect was the help I would receive addressing my other short comings as an adult. The staff is well rounded and help residents with resume building, budgeting, time management, to name a few - all while focusing on staying sober and accepting life on life’s terms. The executive director of the program, Dan Miranda, treats all residents fair and has the perfect temperament to run a serious structured sober living environment. The staff is made up of young men who have been in your shoes, and can show you what being sober and happy can look like. These guys provide support when you need to be propped up, and will guide you in the right direction when they see you straying from the path.

What I didn’t know to expect from this program was a lifelong support from the staff and other residents. It’s hard to monetize what this network of other young men is worth, but has been vitally important to my sobriety. If you are a family member of someone who needs help, the family support groups, and overall support from the therapist, staff, and directors for families is top tier - and doesn’t stop once you “graduate”. If you are serious about wanting to turn your life around, and want to put in the hard work involved - do yourself a favor and at least give a call.

Surfside and the genuine, caring and experienced staff helped mold a rewarding experience that allowed me to grow. I now have just under 5 years of sobriety and it would not be possible without Surfside Structured Sober Living.

I’ve been to programs similar to surfside, but none of them have helped me grow like surfside has. They have helped me through some of my biggest challenges and fears in life, and continue do to so. I have truly found a community where I belong, something I’ve been after my whole life. The CrossFit gym is pretty cool too.

This is one of, if not the best, program on the east coast. Surfside has paved the way for many young men to find and maintain long term sobriety. Surfside provided me with everything necessary to lead a happy and healthy life.

I am 6 years sober thanks to Surfside. I owe it all to the community and the program. The genuine care and desire for all residents success is unmatched.
