History with a gorgeous view! We are locals but we always take our guests here. Everyone enjoys it because there’s a fort, a beach, and walking trails—something for everyone. We especially love to take our dogs to walk on the beach or the outstanding nature trails during the off season.

Absolutely Awesome Experience! It was a great time and adventure to go there and learn all the history. The scenery of the beaches was beautiful. And it felt so enjoyable to take in the scenery of exploring the fort. Without any doubt going to Fort Macon is an awesome, fun, and great opportunity to take advantage of! Have a great day!!!😃☀🇺🇸⚓🌊

Ft Macon is fantastic! Don't miss the experience,it will thrill you! Imagine yourself defending the NC coast during that particular time period....a very dangerous situation indeed,it took plenty of courage & commitment, that's what Patriots do.....

A wonderful place. Much history. Park very clean and well maintained. Features live scheduled tours and demonstrations. At the end of the outer banks strand, so surrounded on 3 sides by a beautiful beach with many seashells. Not at all crowded on a Friday, although overcast, slightly rainy, and windy climate undoubtedly kept some people away. Will definitely return very soon.
Great visit again today, on New Year's day 2024. Sunshine, 55 degrees, and we all loved it. Our big Husky went swimming, as usual for him. He loves water. We

While I'm not a history buff and I don't usually seek out Forts, this place is really cool and worth a visit if you're in the area.

The construction of Fort itself is really interesting and the park service has done an excellent job utilizing the space with historic exhibitions and artifacts.

Outside of the Fort, there's beach access (No swimming as the currentsare too strong) for fishing, and access to a nature trail.

I love it here!!!! There's area to bbq if you don't have your own grill with a awning to cover you if it rains. Restrooms on both levels with showers. My dogs had room to play and use the restroom. Very family friendly and pet friendly. I visit here often I also Uber in the area. Highly recommended as a place to relax with your kids and pets.

Such a fantastic place to spend the day! Fort Macon has done such a great job restoring the fort and demonstrating its history. It is so nice to visit for free. They have a fantastic walking trail and great spots for a picnic or a day at the beach. Kids will also love exploring the fort.

The park surrounding the fort has nature trails and beach access. There is plenty of free parking and restrooms are available at the fort, the focal point of the park. You can easily spend a half day here, touring the fort, walking the trails and/or lounging or fishing on the beach, which offers nice views of the Beaufort inlet. Everything in the park is clean and well kept.

We enjoyed a great day trip to this historic fort. It was the perfect place for our 5yr old grandson who loves all things fort and battle. Very clean, very well maintained and very informative. It was one of his favorite stops on our trip. On a side note for all the pirate enthusiasts…. Captain Blackbeard’s ship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge sank right off the shore from this fort. Easy access to the steps that take you out to the beach for a stroll.
No entry fee…donations appreciated 😊

We had such a great time at this state park. I had no idea that this was even here. The shape of the entire area and the detail history in several of the rooms was definitely exciting. To be able to see the shore and travel the different levels of the of the fort is one to remember. I definitely intend on coming back and doing the 3 mi walk along the coast to see all the other relics and parts of history that took place on that particular portion of the island.

They've done a great job with the experience. It's free (although we did do a small donation), fully walkable, and with great info on its history. Also close to access to Atlantic Beach. We parked there, walked to the fort via the trails, and then back along the beach. It was great.

Great place for the family. We came here on vacation and the walk and beach area are amazing with wonderful ocean views. The bunker/museum area was absolutely wonderful and they made it great for all ages. I highly recommend going here, and it's free. Such an educational experience.

Easy access from parking lot: has a ramp and stairs.
Well maintained and clean sand (no trash/no broken glass) with lots of sea shells.
Beautiful experience.

We went at 6:00pm, an hour before closing one October evening and there were not many people.

GREAT for a simple walk on the beach in the Fall.

Fun place to take kids. They do a shooting demonstration, you can walk through the rooms and bunkers, there are informational rooms with ac to cool down between walking and they offer tours. The beach is located right off the parking lot so it’s a great place to stop for two attractions at once! Stairs are steep in some sections but it is handicap accessible.

This was a great stop on a work trip before leaving to head home. Historical places are something I just enjoy and this is a great one. And it's free to explore! Definitely keep an eye on little ones if you have them with you due to no safety rails around the top. Posted a few of the pics from the trip but definitely couldn't post them all. So much history to learn here! Will definitely visit again!
