Derby Recreation Center

I have only visited this location for my physical therapy through Mid-America Orthopedics. The facility was very clean and the floor plan was open and easy to find what you're looking for. They use small signs hanging from the ceiling for temporary use spaces (like my therapy) so be on the lookout for those to find what you're needing.

Great Staff and a fantastic place for working out or playing basketball.

Small to moderate sized weight area but usually not too busy. Upper track, bball courts and large swimming pool. Reasonably priced membership.

I trained here for around 4 months while I was in Wichita. Weight room is a little small, but it had everything I needed to get a great workout. 3 basketball courts plus 2 extra hoops on court 1 for the little kids. There's a pool, yoga room, 1/10 mile track, VERY clean locker room with showers, and curtains in the locker room if you are on the shy side. Membership also gives you access to the Oaklawn location that has everything plus a computer lab with printers and scanners. I'd give 1000 stars if I could.

Side note. I hit a recent PR here. Squatted 455 for 5. The Rogue bars are top notch!

Had my daughters birthday here the main lifeguard on duty was super AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! She deserves more than 5 stars. They have amazing value to their staff with her. She helped make the birthday party fantastic so accommodating, helpful, genuine, nice just overall amazing. Will definitely love to host other parties there in the future

Brought my child for swimming lessons. The instructors for each level ( Macey, Zoe and Emma) are very patient and professional with all the kids. The discipline they expected was understandable and for safety. The lessons and feedback was very thorough. The task to teach small groups of 3-6 year old kids seems daunting. However, the three young ladies did an excellent job.

My husband and I bought the membership so we could use the pool, and regular admission for an adult is $8 per, so we are definitely getting our money's worth!

One of the only 2 locations in town that allow mermaid tails, the lifeguards are AMAZING, and make us merfolk feel so welcome! (Merfolk; please make sure to ALWAYS swim with a partner, and swim respectively and responsibly. Two-legged swimmers; please always ask before touching our tails, they are an exstention of us, so we ask to recieve our consent first. Our tails are also not toys, they can cost at the lowest $100 and up to $5K depending! These are not made to be floatation devices, meant for anyone under 8 years of age, or are not strong swimmers.)

It was my first time going there. It was a very nice indoor facility, lifeguard staff were very informative, professional, attentive. I enjoyed it and I will visit them again.

I go to workout like Mike Mitzer so i go once every two week. They dont have Beeschussies which is a let down but understandable 🤷

Nice gym. It is renovated and high tech. They have a huge walking track upstairs. They also have a pool, work out room, gym, racquetball courts and more! It’s clean and well kept up. The also offer sports programs for the kids and kids with special needs.

They have a great facility for all your recreational needs. The fitness center has all kinds of machines and free weights. The running/walking track and multi use courts are very well maintained as well. Our kids love the different classes that they offer too.

There weight lifting area is a little smaller than what it probably should be, but there is still room to move around without being crowded. Their gym is clean and well taken care of.

I've gone to the DRC for the last 4 years.. The price of membership is pretty reasonable even more so if you have a family or get a reduced price based on income. I mostly use the gym which I find very well laid out and plenty of cardio machines as well as free weights for those weight lighters. The locker rooms are very clean and attach to the indoor pool which is big enough for lap swimming to classes to a shallow end for kids to play. The also have three basketball courts..2 racketball courts.. spin room.. And several class rooms.. Whatever activity you want to do I'm sure they have it. Also the attached kids club is nice and only costs $20/month for unlimited kids 2 hrs a day.. The staff of the entire DRC are very friendly and will help you with anything you need help with.

Update:
I have been going to the DRC for 10 years now. Everything above in my previous review is still the same. To expand I will say that during the COVID-19 pandemic they did do an excellent job keeping everyone safe, from extra cleaning supplies for equipment to extra sanitizer to extra precautions such as masks and barriers. They also spread out the equipment and moved other equipment into the gymnasium so it could be even more spread out. After the restrictions subsided they still are doing a great job keeping things extra clean, even the kids club fogs their room with sanitizer and cleans toys between different kids playing with them. On a different note they also do a great job updating equipment and keeping benches tear free which is nice. Thanks staff at DRC!

Great insructors and the best work out ever. There is so much yo chose from. No woories you get a detailed description of everything available to you. Great staff...this is a must see if you are considering to get back in shape or maintain. Clean...no smells...fabulous equipment. If you are looking for a fun quiet enviroment with every advantage to get in shape or just maintain....look no further.

Its great, cheaper than most places, and if you know the right times for you, there could be few people or lots depending on how you like your gym experience. ^_^ and when you are done working out you can hit the pool lol

A solid gym with free weights, machines, cardio equipment. The place has large indoor pool, multiple basketball courts. Membership here is a must. If you live in Derby and don't take advantage of this place you're crazy.
