We used this shop as an outfitter for the 11.4 mile paddle down the Black Warrior river. 10/10. Took us about 5 hours total with no current.

This is an awesome place! I stopped in a while scouting some trout fishing spots in the area. This was on a Sunday morning before their opening time. However, when they saw us at the door, they let us in. Incredible gear for sale. Rods and reels and handmade flies. They were visitors sitting at the table learning to tie flies. The folks here were incredibly friendly and helpful. We will be back! I’m thinking about taking a guided flyfishing taster trip with these folks.

Went trout fishing for the first time with Brandon as our guide. It was a great experience that I'll be repeating. If trout fishing is on your bucket list then Riverside Fly Shop is the place to go.

If you are or have ever been interested in fly fishing this is the place to go! The store has everything you could ever need to get started or improve your skills with all sorts of equipment and expert advice. The highlight are the guided fly fishing experiences - and they are fantastic! We did a half day trip and it was amazing - shout out to Brandon our guide. We learned so much and had a great time. Highly recommended!

Had a great guided trip yesterday! I wanted to focus on my casting technique and reading the river and Brandon did a great job. Also just enjoyed talking as well! A wonderful day! Planning on booking another in the spring!

Everything you need to catch your limit. Friendly, informative. Great knowledge of the river, dam flow and trout activity.

Purchased a couple Nucanoes from Riverside Fly Shop. Wonderful experience. Very friendly and welcoming shop. Highly stocked with all the accessories you could ever want. Shop has a great atmosphere, and very sharing when it comes to local knowledge on how to fish the area. Looking forward to using our boats.

This place is a must stop if your fishing this area. Randy was extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. He put us in the flies that were hitting and we’re to go. The shop is small but well stocked and cozy. The front porch is inviting and nice place out of the sun. Been emailing Brandon and he also was spot on with customer support and advice. Stop by and get a cold drink and sticker and talk awhile.

Great experience with Brandon as our guide. My Father-in-law and myself are rookies in the fly fishing world. Brandon is a great teacher and is very patient! I will definitely be back and encourage anyone that loves to fish to give these guys a try and definately check them shop out!

Cannot recommend this place enough! Booked a half-day wading trip to start learning how to fly fish and it was even better than I had hoped for!

Brandon is a fantastic guide who was incredibly patient and broke everything down in a very straight forward manner, making it easy to make decent casts and start working to get better. He took the time to teach us stuff so that we could come back and fish on our own.

You can tell he his guide service is VERY kid friendly!

I cannot wait to work on the stuff he taught us and take another trip to get additional instruction!

****edited: I was able to work my way back on my own to fish the same river and caught two beautiful rainbows on my own! Second trip fly fishing and I have to give credit to the guiding service because without the initial lesson I wouldn’t have figured it out so quick!!!

Best experience ever at a sporting goods store. Very knowledgeable, and accommodating to my 9yo son and I. Walked in with a rod, reel, and not a clue. Soon, was outfitted with everything I needed to get started. Well worth the drive. Going back very soon!

I stopped by on a trip to Sipsey fork. They have an amazing selection of flies and other items you may need for a trip. The guys here are extremely knowledgeable and are happy to chat with you for a while and give you some good recommendations for what you may need for any fishing trip. They also know and provide the dam schedule which was fantastic for planning a trip since you don't want to drive all the way out here just to find out you won't be able to fish cause the dam is generating.

Love this place! If you want to learn about Smith Lake or Sipsey Fork, book a guide trip with Brandon, he knows what he is talking about and it is a blast! I also have purchased two rods here. Randy was very helpful and helped me find the right rod for what I wanted to fish! Can't recommend enough! Great shop and great people!

We had a great time discovering and catching Rainbow trout for the first time! The guided instruction was useful and memorable for future use.......we intend to fish more. All services were as advertised. I am definitely planning to return with all the guys.

I would go to the fly shop first before going to the water. I am glad that we got some instruction first before going on our first Rainbow trout trip!

We had a great time fishing with Brandon. It was my first time fly fishing and he was a great instructor.

My wife surprised me with a guided trip on Fathers Day, and I learned more in that 4 hours than all of my previous fly fishing trips combined. Excellent, personalized, and patient instruction, and super fun. Brandon is the Bill Nye the science guy of guides, with the temperament of a monk. I had the time of my life. I left with a wealth of knowledge and stocked up on quality equipment at Riverside before heading home to Birmingham.

I want to give a big shout out to the guys at Riverside Fly Shop. Yesterday I went out with the owner Brandon Jackson for a little private instruction and my first try at fly fishing. These guys are incredibly helpful and patient with a clumsy beginner like me. If you’re a fisherman and want to try something different or if you are a beginner and just want to give it a try I recommend these guys highly. This would also be an awesome Christmas gift for an outdoorsy person. It’s also worth the drive to stop by and take a look around their shop or ask questions. Thanks Randy and Brandon for all the help! I had a blast.

We did the 11 mile trip yesterday and it was really nice! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable and the shop itself is so awesome! Definitely a highlight, was playing Bama Cab in the van on the ride back to the shop after our trip!!! I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family!

They just don’t make shops like this anymore. Down-home, superb personal service. Knowledgeable family and well equipped fly shop. I bought my first rod there many years ago and was treated to free lessons out behind the shop. I continue to use this shop for everything from fly tying materials to equipment needs. Major brands like Scott, Korkers Boots, Simms, Lamson, Loon, Echo, Temple Fork Outfitters and many more available here. Don’t hesitate to give them a call and set up a guided trip or stop in to cast and buy a rod.
