My wife and I had a great two night stay at the Evan’s Gate B&B. Bernie and Kristy were excellent hosts and the rooms were comfortable and clean. Each room has its own bathroom and shower. The place is new and very spacious with a nice rural view. Christy made us breakfast each morning and it was delicious. We would highly recommend.

Bernie and Kristy run an amazing and brand new BnB! We were just looking for an alternative to an expensive resort stay and were pleasantly surprised to find a home away from home. Thank you for opening your spacious home and personalizing our stay with wonderful breakfasts, help with attire, fun conversation and frisbee golf! Two thumbs way up! 💗

My brother, his wife and my step-mother came for a visit over Memorial day weekend and I arranged for them to stay here. Bernie and his wife Kristi are the sweetest hosts and the location is nothing short of spectacular. The house itself is absolutely stunning. Kristi created some fantastic breakfasts for us and Bernie will keep you entertained with some of his stories and history of the lands surrounding the house. Although my wife and I didn't stay there ourselves, we were welcomed as if we did. If you're in Southern Iowa, more specifically the Lake Rathbun area, I suggest you give them a look.

We stayed here over the Memorial Day holiday weekend and EVERYTHING about this place was perfect! The house is beautiful, the views are amazing, and the hosts (Bernie and Kristi) were beyond accommodating. From the moment we arrived until the day we left, we were treated like and felt like family. These people are genuine and this place is a true hidden gem! We will definitely be back.

A group of us from four surrounding states spend a weekend at the B & B. The accommodations were clean, it met our needs, and the food was good. The scenery was beautiful and there were a number of species of wildlife to observe. Bernie and Kristi were outstanding host. They went out of the way to make it a great experience. In order to get the full effect, I highly recommend staying at Evans Gate.

Went to Evans Gate BnB for part of my daughters wedding celebration last weekend. I have known Bernie and Kristie for 8 years and counting. The entire property looked great including holiday decorations and plenty of areas for photo ops. Both were very hospitable and welcoming. The breakfast was amazing the next morning including choices of eggs, pancakes, breakfast meats and juices. To top off the experience, we were visited by bald eagles for our "brunch". I highly recommend the experience to anyone looking for a getaway.

ETA- Not sure what the person below was trying to accomplish other than a smear campaign. He stated his friends rented the entire bed and breakfast. Did he personally see the contract? Also, the parents set up the reservations including me (father of the bride). You are definitely not my friend as I don't know who you even are. The total bill should not even have been his concern- not even sure where he got his amount from? As the owner stated- he spread misinformation in his review. Wedding receptions are supposed to be loud? Yes, and I hope everyone had fun. However, common courtesy for others in the BnB including the pregnant woman in the other room was missed by some of the guests. Seems like anyone can post misinformation in a review and call it the gospel. Go back and sit at the kids table, Junior. Let the adults handle the important stuff.

The proprietors of this new Bed and Breakfast worked hard to make our visit special. For breakfast, my little grand-daughters were treated to yummy "Green Eggs & Ham" and wonderful pancakes among other treats. Each of the three girls caught their first fish (ever!) while fishing in the lake near the lodge. Grandpa, a city dweller, was pleased for the opportunity to be reminded of just how many stars are in the night sky! Our rooms were clean and comfortable. Mine was decorated to make hunters feel at home--which is not surprising since this B&B would be a great base of operations for a week of deer hunting.

We just checked out of Evans Gate this morning after a lovely 4 night stay. Owners Bernie and Kristi were friendly and welcoming, their home was comfortable, interesting, nestled into a lovely landscape. Thanks Bernie and Kristi for a wonderful stay, we will certainly be back!

The atmosphere is warm and cozy and the hosts are about as nice and friendly as any I've ever met. Excellent conversationalists and full of stories about their ancestors that lived on the same property. I will DEFINITELY be visiting here again in the near future!

My sons fiancĂ© bachelorette party was held there, everything went well. So we had small get together after wedding rented whole house. Owner yelled at my new daughter in law because she hadn’t been paid yet. A few of our guests left because of her. She should have discussed it with parents. Not the Bride. It is a nice place, maybe she was having a bad day. Either way I won’t go back. Sad because I had thought I found a place our whole family could get away. But you don’t yell at a bride on her wedding day!

My friends rented the whole place out for their wedding reception, and the owners booked a room to some random person. Once caught the owners said "oh you weren't supposed to see them." The bride was rightfully upset and instead of handling the matter in a civilized way the owner got in the bride's face.

Being a wedding reception people are going to get loud, and we were told that we were being too loud as a group and we needed to go to bed at 10:00pm.

Would've thought for $1500 for one night would've bought a us the whole place to ourselves so that there were no other guests that would've been bothered by a wedding party but apparently it's alright to flat out lie to their customers.
