Update: I recently had to deal with GFL again to obtain a recycling dumpster. The salesman, Matt, was professional, thorough and very communicative. He ensured everything we talked about happened and quickly. Also, Kim (in the office) went out of her way to ensure my bill was correct and I understood the charges. I called them back to only get a quote for a baseline, but I am now a customer. Service has been consistent for many months now. I am glad to update this review.

This is the only negative review I have ever posted online. It is well deserved. I run a business in Columbus, NC. GFL is contracted through the town to remove our waste twice a week.
Usually they pick up around 5 am. Today, I went to remove my empty cans, which are placed in front of my business for their ease, and place them back into our waste area. They were still full. I called to ask the question if they could let me know when the bins would be emptied. Their response was, "Please call back at 5 pm (which is when they close) and we will let you know if we can schedule you in the next 24 to 48 hours."
I have no more room for trash. I will have to take the time to load up for the dump to take it myself. This has happened multiple times since we opened fifteen months ago.
I would recommend never to depend on GFL Environmental. I would give them zero stars if I could.

Friendly drivers, and the places they drive these trucks.....Brave.. Professional...I wouldn't hesitate to recommend as your trash service company...... Anybody else I've ever used you would consistently get your trash left at the mailbox because they're too scared the weather was too bad dangerous the company Waste Industries they are there no matter what

Much better pricing than we had with Republic services. Trashcans are a bit smaller but they always show up and get the job done. Gave 4 starts because we do have issues receiving bills but haven't had any issue with getting help paying over the phone.

Drivers don’t pick up as they should and when they do they toss your can halfway across the road. I’ve called and asked for assisted for 8 weeks now still no resolution. It’s been escalated and still no resolution. If I could give zero stars I would. This all started in October. Before that I had no issues. Not sure what changed but it’s awful. I will be changing providers first of the year.

I have had trouble out of this company back before they bought out the other company. It's been nothing but a head ache to say the least. I'm tired of the double the pay for half of the job they are suppose to do. I would have never signed the contract if I would have knew this before hand. So save your money and take your trash off yourself.

Only been a customer of theirs for a short period of time when they bought out our previous company. They consistently miss pick ups, and make broken promises. They have missed pick up two of the last three previous weeks, but they promised they would pick it up today. It is after 6 o’clock and still not picked up. I can’t wait to start service with a reputable company.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! I was recommended by a family member who uses waste management (GFL bought them) and this has been the worst service we have ever had. I started my service a month ago. Two weeks in and they still had not picked up trash and sent another bill in the mail. I called the company and ask why I am being charged if they still haven't picked up yet. The operator let me know they had charged me extra for the can and would remove the charge. They also scheduled a missed trash pick up and let me know I had been scheduled on the wrong route. Thought that was the last of our issues.. well they didn't pick up last Tuesday or this Tuesday. I called them again today and ask why they haven't picked up yet again for another two weeks. The operator let me know I was still scheduled for the wrong route and she would fix it. I let her know now it has been a month and you would expect a hey sorry for them not picking up.. nope! The person asked if there was anything else and hung up. I called back and let them know I wanted to cancel the service. No reason to waste money and not even get a hey sorry we missed you. Do not recommend this company at all!!!!

Called 8 times and no answer. Tried to pay bill online countless times with the account they provided and couldn't because it "didn't exist" so I get punished for it. Had to set up a new account and pay another delivery fee because they took the trash bin with them.

I have been paying trash pick up and recycling for three years .
I went to the dump on May 18th 2020 to drop off a broken water heater.
One of the garbage trucks was dumping in the garbage area, when I went in after the truck . It was a whole load of Recyclables ( Cans, Cardboard. and Plastics ) Pictures Below !!
Every time I call they are rude and they miss pick ups all the time...

I have called GFL in Columbus fourteen times in the last month trying to get them to cancel service and pick up their dumpster. They will not answer the phone and when they do I am told that a salesman will call me back. I guess if we stop paying the bill they will take notice. Would not recommend them

Been using this company for over 5 years. Done ok for the most part. Have missed a few pickups. Got a call yesterday that they would be terminating our service because they backed into our neighbors yard and left a rut when turning around. He called and carried on, so instead of fixing the driver, they canceled us. They said they didn’t want to deal with him and their new truck was too big to turn around on a two lane road. There are 6 driveways within 30 yards of ours and they can’t figure out how to turn around…

We use them for
Trash and recycling pick up. They have missed 8 weeks of recycling pick up. We have to call each time and each time they say it won’t happen again yet it happens again. Each person I speak With gives an excuse and says it won’t happen again yet it happens again. Week after week. It’s an incredibly terribly ran business and I’d choose anyone but them to pick up trash or anything else. If you choose them be ready for disappointment. I told you so.

We used GFL for 3 years with 2 services missed per year due to substitute drivers mostly who missed our pick up because they didn’t crest the hill to see us. 4-6 weeks ago, they changed drivers and our time for pick up changed without notice. Service has now been a mess since then even though we’ve spoken to the drivers to see what our new time for pick will be. As we have bears, we prefer to put out about an hour before they pick up even if we have been putting it out at 6:15am. GFL doesn’t provide bear cans, nor will they now pick up using our own can. The paperwork we have since beginning their service says they’re not responsible for damaged or missing cans implying we could use our own. It’s never been an issue until the new driver. The 2-3 per year we have extra trash (Christmas, parties, etc) we used our own trash can matching theirs so the guys can attach it to the truck. We put a note for extra trash and it had been taken until the new driver. With the new time and no notification of new route, we’d missed 2 weeks of trash pickup. But they will not take it the extra trash since the can is full. Now apparently the lid must also be closed. With bears we need a can that closes or be able to bungee it which they will also not allow. We’re now at an impasse so we discontinued their services. We were also using recycling services but the large boxes (think Christmas tree) we get in the mail we break down but not always will they fit with our regular recycling already in the can. We receive many delivery boxes and pay for recycling. They’ve taken the extra boxes in the past, but may not any longer because it’s not following the rules. However when directed to the website, only the rule is regarding where your can needs to be for pick up. We talked to the local and next step up about the rules. We just can’t find them since they are different from the ones we still have from 3 years ago which we offered to email but they didn’t want them. If we know the rules, we can play the game. The drivers have rules but we can’t get those rules because they’re not out there. Unfortunately, we could hear over the phone, the guy who came to their office from Columbus was having issue with the new driver. Umm, we shouldn’t be hearing that so clearly through the phone, but we understand his pain. So it’s not a service we can continue with where we live.
