Best hush puppies I've had after 7 restaurants here. Definitely recommend the fried grouper fish bites. Great restaurant to take young kids. The tablecloth is a sheet they can draw on.

Great little family-owned sea food restaurant in Avon. Staff was friendly and attentive, despite how very full the dining room was.

Food was all served hot and fast. The Hush puppies were a delicious appetizer. The Mad Crabber Spicy Shrimp had great flavor without being too hot. The Mad Crabber Platter was very generous. And, for the non-seafood people, the New York Strip Steak was a great cut of meat, full of flavor, and cooked to perfection.

Really great place to go for good seafood! Get the fish bites as an appetizer, lightly breaded and so tender and flaky. I got the Dungeness crab and steamed shrimp (you peel the shrimp). Both were amazing. Staff was friendly. Seating was not the best as it's picnic table or high top table seating, but the food makes up for that easily! Highly recommend.

We stopped here because it had been in business for 30+ years and it did not disappoint. The fish dip was really yummy and my Mahi fish tacos were phenomenal! My husband got the peel and eat shrimp and said they were really good as well.

Great food, friendly staff that is attentive. They also have a a selection of tees, tanks and sweaters for sale.

My family has been going to mad crabber since it opened 30 years ago! Favorite place in OBX! Love the mad crabber platter, hush puppies, soups and my husband appreciates the steak on the menu! Fun atmosphere! We go at least twice every trip to OBX!

In our first visit, we had the pleasure of trying the Dungeness crabs, and they were simply delicious. However, what truly amazed me were the accompanying sides. The collards had a fresh and tangy taste that perfectly complemented the rich flavors of the crabs. Additionally, the sweet potato mash was seasoned to perfection, creating a truly blissful culinary experience.

On our subsequent visit, we opted for the snow crabs, and once again, the sides did not disappoint. The collards and sweet potato mash maintained their exceptional quality and flavors, elevating the meal to new heights.

I had a dietary restriction that required me to avoid fried food, but the Mad Crabber team was more than accommodating. Although their boil typically includes shrimp (to which I'm allergic), I had my eyes on one item - for which they made it possible for me to enjoy a side of their tantalizing Andouille sausage. It was cooked to perfection and added an extra layer of deliciousness to my meal.

Aside from the remarkable food, the service at Mad Crabber was impeccable. The servers were attentive, joyful, and well-informed about the menu. They went above and beyond to ensure that our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional.

We loved this place. Seafood was really good. I got the seafood trio. The crab cake was really good. Fresh corn on the cob, shrimp were great as well. Fish tacos were a hit as well. The kids love the butcher paper covering the table to draw pictures on. Very cool. Staff was attentive and nice.

Delicious place to eat,def get the fish bites! Love the atmosphere when I was picking up food George Jones was playing over speakers. Def not a chain type restraunt, stayed in a house directly behind here and drove by coming off beach and was line waiting for them to open at 5 pm. So we figured it was good and our figuring was correct.

Great place for fried seafood, our waitress was AWESOME! She told us about an Oktoberfest event going on up the road. We will be visiting here again!

I wanted to try king crab but they had a substitute crab type/smaller then the king and snow crab so went with the delicious snow crab everything was wonderful 💯

Two words: Crab Legs. Ordered a pound of Snow and a pound of Dungeness legs and couldn’t have been happier. They were fresh and perfectly steamed. More than enough food for 2-3 people. Also the crab dip was on point (eaten before picture was taken unfortunately).

Service is among the best on the island, so far, even though we were at the high tops, which normally don’t get much love. Our server checked in about every 10 mins, cleared the crab carnage, and refilled drinks. Never had to flag her down once.

Will be back again soon.

Love it here! Excellent crab legs. We visited Mad Crabber twice during our vacation. Our servers were wonderful.
Make sure you get there early because they fill up quickly!

We had an awesome dinner here! The place was packed, and I can see why! After being seated, we had wonderful, fast service. This place was very kid friendly. My daughter especially enjoyed coloring on the paper that was placed on the table. I had the soft shell crab entree, and it may be the best soft shell crab I've ever had!! Also, we all enjoyed the crab bisque soup (even my 8 year old who doesn't care for seafood)! Highly recommend!! My only complaint would be that the water tasted bad! Not sure how to describe it, just very unpleasant. I was able to hide the "taste" with a few lemon wedges.

We've been traveling to Cape Hatteras since 2009, always trying different places to eat and for the first time we had a 5 stars experience. Both service and food was excellent. Chad, our server, was great and the food was amazing. The best soft shell crab I've had in my life. Scallops grilled to perfection. Crispy crab cake. Super fresh steamed shrimp. Finally we've found a restaurant here we can't wait to go back!

Stopped in for a date night with the hubby. It was a Thursday night and we were sat right away (we got there around 6) Morgan our waitress was super nice, upbeat, and can tell she is top notch at her job. The food came out quickly and was delicious! Definitely recommended!!!

Our server was incredibly attentive, kind, etc. (I'm sorry I don't remember her name, but she had a pixie cut and fun earrings...). I could recommend the restaurant purely based on our interaction with her, but luckily for us, the food was impressive and memorable as well! The drinks and food were tasty and vacation worthy. Thank you, for the overall relaxing and fun night out!

Excellent! A casual atmosphere and a little loud with happy customers and a friendly staff. We started by sharing the appetizer special which was a crabmeat pretzel and it was super yummy! I loved the mahi tacos I ordered as my entree as well. The service was excellent and I do not hesitate to recommend this restaurant.

I'm not sure why it took us so long to have dinner at the Mad Crabber since we've been visiting OBX for many years. We were missing out on some fantastic food from the hush puppies to the delicious seafood. It was worth the wait to dine. Our waiter was fantastic! We'll be putting this restaurant on the "must go to" list.
