Gumbo Stop Cafe

My very favorite place to eat. We try to get there as often as possible. Everything is so good. I thought I didn’t like Cajun food, but they sure changed my mind! I usually slurp everything down so fast I don’t take pictures so this was the most recent order! Lol
Cheesy crawfish bread and hot sauce is an absolute MUST!

The muffuletta was fantastic with top quality ingredients, but it also meant a lot to me how kindly I was treated by the staff. The server spoke with me like an old friend would, even though it was my first time coming in. The restaurant is small and cozy but clean and decorated wonderfully. Prices are very fair for the quality and what you get for your money. Couldn't have been a better first impression of a new-to-me restaurant. I can tell the owners take a lot of pride in offering a great product and even better service. I don't make it up to Huntington often but I will be happy to come back and support this business again. This is absolutely a place to stop in and checkout, the food is excellent, service is fast and friendly… so if you’re in the area passing through or just haven’t tried it yet check it out!!! I had the crawfish bread and the smoked chicken gumbo

Quaint cafe with excellent Cajun food. The catfish etoufee with sausage added was delicious. The inside will seat about ten people. Outside cafe tables for another 10-15 people. Highly recommend.

Update 8/5/23: We tried two more excellent dishes. The special, blackened red snapper etoufee on rice and the shrimp etoufee on cheesy grits.

We lived a month in Louisiana and miss the cajun/creole cuisine. So happy to find this local spot with authentic deep flavors.

I ordered gumbo 8oz. It was small but extremely satisfying. The heat was a perfect amount. My hubby ordered Etoufee. The cheesy grits were so smooth, I was impressed.

The place is very small. So it's not great for groups. However, there is outdoor seating or you can do take out.

Definitely will make this a regular go-to place in the future.

Can I just say-WOW! A hidden Huntington gem. Everything was absolutely delicious. I cant believe we hadn’t been before. We had the crawfish bread (so yummy), etoufee (stick to your ribs true comfort food), and the butter cake (sinfully delicious 😭). Despite being super busy for such a small place they kept pace really well! We will definitely be back!

Very delicious Cajun food in WV! The food was fresh and freshly prepared. The space is tiny, we were the only ones there, and the staff was super nice. They were doing a lot of take out business! I really liked it and will definitely eat here again!

Wonderful place with great food! My experience was an absolute joy from start to finish. The gumbo is the best I've had in a very long time and the muffaleta sandwich was great, too.

I would drive the four hours back to Huntington just to eat here!

I nice little cafe with the most phenomenal food and service that I’ve had in a long time! It’s a delicious hidden gem. My family ordered a variety of items in which everyone absolutely loved! The gumbo was amazing and just down right comforting. These ladies just won life long customers with us.

Run, don’t walk to this place. The food was tasty and the service is top notch! It was 5x better than I thought it was going to be, and I thought it was going to be great! I wish I would have found this place sooner! I’ll be eating here as often as possible! Amazing!!!

This is the best best restaurant in Huntington maybe the tristate honestly. I've been all over the country and this is legit cajun so don't to listen to any negative reviews. Top notch ingredients and knowledge from the staff. I was actually there to see the sausage shipped in. I'm extremely picky and I would eat here 5 days a week if I could.

LISTEN when I tell you I AM MAD I didn't know this was here!! I saw them post on Facebook through a mutual friend and I adore Cajun food. I finally got the chance to stop in today and ordered about 3 different lunches to try everything. My friend and I ended up eating it all in one sitting which was not easy as its all SUPER filling but stopping was not an option. Got the pork po boy with gumbo, the beer battered shrimp po boy with jambalaya, the shrimp etouffee and the red skin potato salad. Now I've stayed for a while in Louisiana and when I say its better than the local businesses there LORD help me. You can smell the gumbo when you approach the building. I'm making a monthly allowance so I don't eat myself into debt. Their daily deals are phenomenal also!! Please stay!!

The food was absolutely delicious! I was expecting good but not THAT GOOD! You’ve got to have great taste in food to eat here. Took my first bite of catfish etouffee and it made me want to slap my grandma, luckily she wasn’t around. 5 STARS across the board!!

This place is amazing great food great people!

Ate there for the first time with my girlfriend and had the gumbo and jambalaya. We were both blown away by how delicious the food was. The only thing we were left wondering is why we would hadn’t been there before!

Do not sleep on this Cajun restaurant in West Virginia! Shrimp po'boy is second only to one I had at Parkway in New Orleans. Crusty fresh bread, beer-battered shrimp, perfectly dressed with just a bit of heat. Red beans and rice are also a homerun. Absolutely worth multiple stops to try it all!

Don't listen to Angie Whittington because most of her reviews are somewhat negative on higher-rated restaurants. Sorry to put you on blast, Angie.

ANYWAY, this place is fantastic. I like to think a 5 star is hard to get outta me, but this place absolutely earned it. I really don't like beans but the Smokey Red Beans and Rice were phenomenal. Even after one visit, I couldn't imagine going back and not ordering them again. I got the Roast Beef Po' Boy and it, too, was fantastic.

Gumbo Stop Cafe is a standout. I honestly didn't expect a meal of this caliber today, and my list of the restaurants that can do that is very, very short.

The staff at Gumbo Stop Cafe are A++++. What make this place a great regular stop is the food to go with the friendly atmosphere. Delicious Cajun dishes and a wide assortment of hot sauces to choose from.

Adorable little place with great food! My husband likes Cajun food and I had never tried it before, so we decided to stop here while passing through Huntington. I’m usually kind of a picky eater but I ate every last bit of my jambalaya and po boy. Husband enjoyed his gumbo and po boy as well. A great spot for lunch!
