My family and I stopped here for a bite to eat after visiting the car museum. The place was packed but we didn't have to wait very long for a table. The waitress was a riot! She joked with my 2 boys and gave us ample time to make decision on our orders. My wife and I ordered French dip sand witches and my boys had hamburgers. The French dip sand witches had thick slices of meat, cooked to perfection. Hand down the best that I've had! My boys said the hamburgers where the best they had as well. For them to admit that takes a lot. Teenagers such picky eaters :) This is a must stop for anyone travel to and from the local sights.

We had dinner here last night. The waitress was very attentive and the food was very good. We had planned on going to another restaurant tonight just to check them out as we have never been here before except for breakfast once. All the other restaurants were closed for the 4th of July. We again were very pleased with the food and the service. And the price was good.

This place is under new ownership and has a new name: The Covered Wagon Cafe. The difference is astounding. The service is better as well as the food. They've also remodeled, changed the menu, and have a kid friendly atmosphere (cotton candy!). Check out the reviews on their Facebook page "the covered wagon cafe - murdo" to see updated reviews!

We were hungry for breakfast and it was our only option. Considering it had a relatively full dining room, was labor day, and there was only 1 waiter on the floor - it was ok. Our eggs, hashbrowns, toast and coffee were tasty!

There was food on the floor and chairs. Other then being dirty the food was good.

Awful. Slow, inattentive service. Hash browns were raw. Bacon tasted like greased jersey. Toast was undercooked. Eggs were flavorless. (How can you mess up an egg!?). The poor guy next to us said he'd waited 45 minutes, for an order of biscuits and gravy. Don't waste your time.

By far the worst i Have had dining on the dakota area I can't believe that they would ever get a return customer.

As we were placing our order, we were told that they were out of fries. How does a restaurant run out of fries?? So we asked what the options were in place of the fries. Potato salad was given as a replacement option. So 2 of us ordered potato salad, 2 ordered salads. Once we got our bill an additional $1 each was added for the potato salads. Only after raising a huge stink about it did they correct that. The meals were awful and non filling ,spending over $46 for the 4 of us to eat. Will not be somewhere we would ever stop again. Save your money and drive on.

HORRIBLE SERVICE!!!! if I can give it negative stars, I would! Came in for lunch after a long drive, there were costumers standing at the door that were waiting since the tables were not clean. We found seats at the bar/ counter top right in front of the waitress and no one greet us or service us. After about five minutes, a waiter eventually gave us menus. Ten minutes ( I was timing it) later still no service, no one took our orders! Again, we sat right IN FRONT OF THEM (the waitress), there were times that two or three waitress were standing in front of us but they must be too busy to take our orders. After 15 minutes of no service, we left. We drove two blocks to another diner and received a better services. Don't waste your time at this crappy joint!!!!

Stopped in at 8:30 PM only to be told the menu was essentially trash since the kitchen wasn't preparing most of the food on the menu because it was too close to their closing time of 10 PM. Additionally, the waiter with the blondish goatee was extremely rude and didn't seem to like being a waiter very much. The adjoining car show shop was neat and the employees on that side of the building were very nice and interesting.

We visited during the Sturgis bike rally (Sturgis is about a hundred miles west of Murdo.) This restaurant was totally unprepared. We stopped in mid-afternoon, and by then they had run out of most everything. We finished off their store of french fries. There were no french fries to be had after we got ours. They didn't have taco meat, they didn't have tuna, they didn't have STRAWS. Who runs out of straws? We overheard the waitresses talking about adding more water to the soup that had already been there "a few days." My Philly Cheesesteak sandwich had no cheese and was as dry as the Mohave Desert. The patty melt that supposedly had cheese and onions on it didn't have onions and we're not sure what the "cheese" actually was. The napkin that was wrapped around the silverware looked like it had ketchup on it already from somewhere else. There aren't a lot of eating choices in the middle of nowhere and I think we dodged a gastronomical bullet that day.

We knew better due to past experience years ago, but wanted to give this place a try again. We stay in Murdo every year for a month with several employees. We attempted to have supper last night. We had an excellent waitress, however she came back from the kitchen several times to tell us they were out of it. Only about 25℅ of the menu was available. It's very unfortunate but this place only exists due to travelers stopping by. For good food in Murdo drive north another block to the drive in. They have excellent food and large servings of ice cream. I would much rather give the drive in all of our business.

Their Indain Taco didn't taste like an Indian taco. Wasn't even close to an Indian taco. The fry bread looked like a honey bun donut and whatever the meat was didn't taste like beef. The worse meal we ever had while traveling through Murdo. The waitress didn't even check on us to see if everything was ok or didn't even ask if we need some more drinks. All she did was serve us and then talk on her cell phone. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Mite as well have Subway at the truck stop.

Stay away! Server came to take our order chewing on a mouthful of fries! Should have left then, but had been driving all day and we were starving. "Bison" burger was a child size freezer burnt beef patty. French dip was a slab of unseaseoned gray meat served with brown water pretending to be au jus. Save your money and go anywhere else.

We were the only people in the restaurant, the waiter seemed afraid of us, paid $8 for a hamburger patty on a bun with a half-cup scoop of mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes for instance the gravy was canned, the hamburger patty had been pre cooked and had a bite the tasted like there was pickle on it.

Michael was Right, Save your money or just go across the street to Subway, I did. When I walked in the door, I just knew I was in the the movie "LIFE" with Martin Lawrence & Eddie Murphy! For a second I thought I was going to hear the girl say" WHITES ONLY PIE'S" !! LOL! I've never gone to an establishment and had this feeling and I'm from Mississippi!! It feels good that I can laugh at people and their True ignorance! With poor food quality and Bad customer service, I wonder how do they stay in business?!?!

Save your money!!!

If you're hungry, go to the Subway across the street. Lousy service, filthy stinking restrooms and poor quality food. Don't get me wrong...I wouldn't mind paying $16 for a Philly cheese, fries, dinner salad and iced tea if it was quality food and drink. Stay away!!!
