The ICA Watershed is accessible directly or via a short water taxi from the main ICA collection. The exhibition space is large enough to house installations that couldn’t be displayed in normal gallery settings. This brings out the creativity in artists given the opportunity to show their larger work at full scale. (Of course, the opposite is sometimes true when the scale of the works isn’t quite large enough for the space which overpowers the art leaving empty spaces or gaps in the aesthetic vision). The ICA (here and at the main museum) continue to offer a series of exhibitions that encourage regular repeat visits.

I love this space and the area is really up and coming in East Boston. The installation was amazing! I highly recommend visiting and seeing it. I also attended the sound bath led by the artist and it was a transformative experience!

I went to go see Guadalupe Maravilla's show and it was incredible. It's great to take a quick trip across the river and experience it and compare and contrast it to the regular ICA exhibit. You won't get an installation art experience like this anywhere else, I highly recommend.

This was spectacular!!! It was made with such delicacy, care and talent. First time visiting and it did not disappoint. My son could not stop being in awe. In addition to the exhibition the murals outside were amazing, there are restaurants around and a beer factory where you can purchase the most original flavors. Whenever it opens again next year, we will certainly visit.

This was an awesome afternoon. We arrived at the ICA in the seaport, took their water shuttle across to the East Boston Watershed, which in itself was a little treat, to then walk around the corner from the dock into this intimate warehouse space. After viewing the few but parts with many pieces, we waited for the shuttle to take us back across the harbor to the ICA's main building and exhibits while taking in the vision harbor and skyline panorama. Love Is Calling was another trip within the trip, as well as the Brazilian video piece Swinguerra, which just added more dimensions to our brief but beautiful afternoon several flights high in a glass building looking out over the harbor you just sailed across. I recommend this day for any contemporary art appreciator, or anyone else who would like to see Boston through multiple perspectives, art, sky, land, or sea.

Great extension of the ICA in the Seaport. Saw Little Amal, along with amazing art inside.

What a fabulous space! Every summer there's a different installation. For instance, this year John Akomfrah's Purple is on view. Since I don't want to spoil the trip, I will not describe how fabulous his art installation is.

Getting to the Watershed requires taking a water taxi from ICA (piece of advice: make sure to book it in advance); the trip itself makes the whole experience one of a kind.
This formerly industrial space seems to be the perfect container for all forms of experimental art. It reminds me of the old ICA, before the neighborhood changed so much.

Across from the Watershed you can enjoy some delicious Downeast Cider (the brewery is right across the entrance) and some Australian meat pies at KO Pies! What a treat!!

This was my first trip to the watershed and it didn't disappoint. In addition to the exhibition inside, there were many fun murals outside and on the walk between the water taxi station and the watershed.

intricate installations from amazing art series is not what makes the Watershed such a unique characteristic of the ICA.

the combination of the classic canvas art, massive 6 screen movie installation, and interactive activity shaped a more holistic message from the artist. it was powerful. and this holistic approach makes this art so powerful.

the Watershed is the only place i have seen truly honor the message of the artist and fully immerse the viewer in the experience.

Just like the ICA, Watershed gives an interesting insight to the issues of the modern day. While I was there, the definitive centerpiece of the gallery was "Purple" by John Akomfrah - this was delightfully arranged and one of the most powerful experiences I've ever had with art. As well, the name Watershed indeed played into the theme of Purple, namely an unjust spending of large quantities of water.

Practically, the water taxi rides back and forth are really nice! I'd argue that it awakes a more intimate experience with the Boston harbor than by taking the metro over it to Cambridge. As well, the people at Watershed are nice at guiding you to the destination. It almost couldn't be any easier!!

An unforgettable impression. On six screens coordinated in a most intriguing presentation, the planet preservation experience is both imteractive and presented on 6 giant screens.

It's a great experience to be inside this huge piece, with all its detail and mood. It is just one exhibit, plus one more in back, so it might only take 30 minutes all told. But I also count the space itself as part of the fun.. huge girders and old cranes. Some of them still move! And East Boston is so alive, I had never seen it like this before. Don't miss the new park!

A nice extension of the main ICA art gallery across the harbor. It's seasonal so check their website to see if they're open on the day you're planning to visit.

The art is not only beautiful but also inspiring, imparting a larger message of environmental protection and sustainability. The space is not as huge as the main gallery. You can see it all in under an hour. Admission is free, and there is a ferry connection between the two ICA locations, which is part of the admission fee for the main gallery.

Great, great space!!! It lends itself nicely to the video exhibit that was on display. It also provides a good reason to go to East Boston and see what a very nice part of the city it is, too. The area in which the Watershed resides seems to be a vibrant art scene. At times I felt the area could eventually resemble Commercial St in Provincetown (near the main docks). Only a short (and nice) walk from the Maverick stop on the Blue Line.

Fierlei Barz exhibit was interesting. Not a long visit. We parked on Marginal Way. Not sure how much parking would be available if busy. Water Taxi is available from the Seaport on the hour. We walked the adjacent pier park that has spectacular views of Boston Harbor, the Seaport, and the North End.
