Incredible historical tour down in the Age of Sail. The USS Constitution is a must see. You get to walk on board a majestic tall ship and tour its many decks, experiencing a glimpse of the difficult sailing conditions aboard a military heavy frigate back in the early 1800's. We did the tour quickly in less than 1 hour before closing at the end of the day. It was definitely worth it. Recommended for everyone, including history buffs and elementary school children or older. Elderly or people with disabilities might not be able o make it up the narrow, steep ramp up the ship. Don't forget to visit the museum too since that's where most of the historical info is conveyed. The USS Constitution will feel very familiar if you've been to Baltimore since its sister ship, the USS Constellation, can also be toured there. A must see.

The USS Constitution, berthed in Boston Harbor, is a stunning testament to American naval history. Stepping aboard this venerable vessel feels like a journey back in time.
The ship itself is beautifully preserved, showcasing its iconic three-masted design and sleek lines. Walking its sturdy decks, visitors are immersed in the maritime heritage that shaped the nation. The knowledgeable crew, dressed in period uniforms, eagerly shares tales of the ship's storied past and the brave sailors who served on her.

A beautiful ship that is also a museum. This site is one you must visit when in Boston and a post card with the ship on is a really nice one to send home. The structure and design is really interesting and it is well worth the visit.

Being from the Midwest, being on the water and a ship like this is a brand new experience. The visitor's center as well as the ship are well maintained, very informative, and very helpful to a novice such as myself. Love seeing all of the history preserved and it's unique learning this ship is still taken out to sea occasionally.

Such a cool experience! We loved being able to tour the Ship. The museum was very informative, but also hands on.
Entry was free for our family because we’re military. I loved the fact they included free entry for Military wives since that’s not generally the case.

Visiting the USS Constitution, also known as "Old Ironsides," is a journey through American naval history that offers both education and inspiration. The experience begins at the Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston, where the majestic ship is docked. As one of the oldest commissioned naval vessels still afloat, the USS Constitution serves as a floating museum, meticulously preserved to showcase its storied past.
### Arrival and Atmosphere
Upon arrival, the sight of the USS Constitution is striking. The ship's iconic three masts and black and white hull stand out against the backdrop of Boston Harbor. The atmosphere is imbued with a sense of reverence and pride, reflecting the ship's historical significance and its role in American naval victories, particularly during the War of 1812.
### Guided Tour Experience
The guided tour is a highlight, led by knowledgeable and enthusiastic Navy personnel. Our guide expertly navigated through the ship’s decks, sharing anecdotes and historical facts that brought the vessel’s history to life. The tour included visits to the gun deck, where cannons are positioned as they would have been during battle, and the living quarters, providing a glimpse into the daily lives of sailors in the early 19th century.
### Educational Exhibits
In addition to the guided tour, the USS Constitution Museum located nearby offers a wealth of interactive exhibits. These displays provide deeper insights into the ship's construction, its battles, and the evolution of naval technology. Hands-on activities, such as knot-tying demonstrations and sail-raising simulations, engage visitors of all ages, making the history accessible and memorable.
### Historical Significance
Learning about the ship’s storied past—how it earned the nickname "Old Ironsides" during the War of 1812 when British cannonballs seemed to bounce off its hull—was particularly fascinating. The ship's undefeated battle record and its role in safeguarding American interests during its active years are a testament to the ingenuity and resilience of early American naval forces.
### Preservation Efforts
The ongoing preservation efforts are evident throughout the visit. The ship is in remarkable condition, thanks to the dedicated work of the U.S. Navy and preservationists. Information about these efforts is well-presented, highlighting the challenges and triumphs of maintaining such an important historical artifact.
### Overall Experience
Visiting the USS Constitution is not just a tour but an immersive dive into American history. The blend of expert guidance, interactive exhibits, and the sheer presence of this historic vessel make for a profoundly educational and emotionally resonant experience. Whether you are a history enthusiast, a naval aficionado, or simply a curious traveler, the USS Constitution offers a unique glimpse into the past, reminding us of the enduring spirit of those who have served on her decks.
### Recommendations
To enhance your visit, I recommend allocating a few hours to fully explore both the ship and the museum. Comfortable shoes are advisable as the tour involves climbing steep stairs and navigating narrow passageways. Also, check the schedule for any special events or demonstrations that may coincide with your visit, as these can provide additional layers of insight and enjoyment.
In conclusion, a visit to the USS Constitution is an enriching journey through history, offering a compelling blend of education, preservation, and patriotism. It stands as a proud symbol of America's naval heritage and a testament to the enduring legacy of those who built and sailed her.

From a distance as this impressive ship came into view our excitement grew with every step. Up the gangway we went to walk on, touch and explore real history. Being on something that was built in 1797 was really special, the Navy's oldest ship was in prime condition. Walking the decks, looking at the maze of all the rigging, seeing the deck cannons, the size of the mast's and listening to the pride of the Navy sailors, as they told stories about the history of this ship was very satisfying. Being below on the gun deck, in a tight confined space, with guns blasting away and must have been exhausting, as well as terrifying during engagements. Hearing the cannon balls slamming into the hull and bouncing into the water had to be satisfying making you believe in "Old Ironsides". Simply amazing. We enjoyed.

Old Ironsides was a great experience. It's free, and a great part of America's history that you can experience. There are also NPS stamps here so make sure you get stamped. While you're here, don't skip the Cassin Young Destroyer also in this port.

The USS Constitution is not to be missed. The ship is really majestic. I had the pleasure of visiting during dusk. The views above deck are incredible. The USS Constitution, Old Ironside, was a worthwhile adventure. It's an opportunity to see the oldest actively commissioned ship in the world launched in 1797 in Boston.
The guided tour and adjacent museum at the ship's entrance are free. The Constitution Museum has a cost. The guided tour takes about 20 minutes, and after that, you are free to roam the ship at will. The small museum at the entrance has a 10-12 minute video, which is worth watching as it provides some intetesting history to the war-time Charlestown Shipyard. Without going into the Constitution Museum, we spent 1.5 hours touring.

Great to be able to explore the ship. Use caution on the stairs and lower levels if your over 5’6” in height. I would not recommend the lower levels for those with mobility issues, back or neck problems as you have to be in a sucked position to go down the stairs and the lower levels.

One of the most profound experiences in my Naval career. Heritage and history abound. Quite humbling to walk through and see everything from 225 years ago. Meeting the crew, listening to their stories and hearing about their careers was amazing. Highly recommend this as a stop for everyone. Took me 26 years to make it here but mission complete. Thank you to the crew, the staff and everyone that keeps the USS Constitution active. Hooyah!
