We went to the pumpkin patch. It was fun, it wasn't overly crowded, my two year old was happy with the petting zoo. It's small, but perfect for a small attention span.

Kids really enjoyed all the animals on the farm and love the new indoor bee hive attraction. Also love walking the Kiwanis trail as a family. It's always so peaceful and clean.

What a beautiful place! The old farmhouse with it's country charm, in such a gorgeous setting with the church and school. The goats that go everywhere are so comical to watch. You are assigned a tour guide who takes you around to the various buildings in a golf cart and tells you about the history of each building. At the admission price of $5 it's a must see.

Mountain homeplace is a recreated mod 1800's small farm that has a few animals; chickens, goats and a few horses. There is separate visitor center where you can get refreshments and a candy bar or ice cream and a clean public restroom. It's located at the beginning of the awesome Kiwanis club hiking trail.
Some of the buildings on the farm are buildings that were used in the area at the turn of the century and have been disassembled and relocated to this site.
The hiking trail makes a 1 mile loop (easy), a mile and 3/4 loop or an adventuresome climb across the top of the mountain where the army corps of engineer office is located which connects back to trail number one ( moderate). There is also a 6.2 Mile trail (one way) known as the Adena trail that is difficult but not well marked. You can meander through the woods or walk beside the lake it's all available on this trail.
As an avid hiker I would rate this trail a 10 easy hike and it's the most scenic trail within 100 miles.
As for a local history presentation I would rate it about at 7 they have not presented the artifacts to their best advantage.
There is also a Marina and a campground adjacent to the mountain homeplace. the campground is within view of the most beautiful lake in Eastern Kentucky, Paintsville Lake. It's easy to get to just a couple miles off of interstate 23 from the town of Paintsville.

There is a very pleasant and scenic walking trail that leads around this Minnonite lodge. Very interesting experience and there are opportunities to schedule functions on the ground (i.e. weddings and parties)!
