Ended up having to go to the ER one night a few weeks ago for severe flank and lower abdominal pain. This was the first time I had had to go to an ER and the experience, in hindsight, was awful because of the doctor. I ended up having to have a CT done which let us know I had a decent sized kidney stone (5mm). Dr. Arnold came in and explained what it was, said I had a 95% chance of passing it, gave me a script for Flomax and sent me on my way. He said that the stone was in my distal (lower) bladder, naturally I thought that it wouldn’t take long to pass and I wasn’t having any more pain so I was optimistic. 5 days later the pain returned. I called the ER and spoke with a nurse to make sure that there were no more stones that were noted on the CT (there wasn’t thank goodness) and she proceeds to tell me the stone was in my distal ureter (the “tube” that connects your kidney to your bladder) and not the bladder! That was strike one. Strike two was when I was told to finish out the Flomax to help the stone pass and after doing some research discovered that it can take weeks to pass a stone...the script of Flomax I was given was a 10 day supply. Fast forward to now as strike three. I make an appointment with my family doctor because I have a feeling that I still haven’t passed the stone and she refers me to a urologist. (Side note: got a copy of my report from Paul B. Hall when I went to my family doctor. Dr. Arnold failed to tell me that there was a moderate back up of fluid into my kidney due to the stone blocking the ureter! I kind of think that’s important information...) The urologist calls me personally (kudos Pikeville Medical Center!) to discuss my case. He informs me that stones that are 5mm+ in size have a 50-60% chance of passing naturally! I was dumbfounded. I ended up having to have an x-ray done today just to make sure that I hadn't passed it. Turns out it’s still in there and now I have to get another CT done and will have to be put under general anesthesia to physically remove the stone! If I had known the odds of being able to pass the stone on my own I would have went to a urologist way sooner and had everything taken care of, but no I’ve had to suffer for 3 weeks wondering if I’ve passed the stone or when/if the pain will come back. In my opinion Dr. Arnold is a joke....

My wife was supposed to see Dr Arnold in the Er at Paul B Hall. He ordered bloodwork and tried to release me without even seeing my wound. Bad doctor.
