In 1997, the City of Daytona Beach Shores installed a memorial to the late Shores Councilmember Otto Schulze, a leader in the establishment of the Shores as a racing historical site. Schulze was a tireless champion in the effort to return the Bluebird V to its home in the Daytona Beach area. The Bluebird image is displayed on the monument which is located in the city’s Court of Flags. The Living Legends of Auto Racing Memorial Brick Walk of Fame makes up the patio at the memorial and features inscribed bricks honoring the pioneers of auto racing. The Court of Flags is open sunrise to sunset seven days a week, sunrise to sunset. Other nearby notable motorsports-related spots in Daytona Beach Shores include the site of the Daytona Beach Drive-In Christian Church (south of the Shores City Hall and Court of Flags) which was the original registration area for the beach race course. Sir Malcolm Campbell’s famous 1935 record run of 276.82 mph was accomplished in a Measured Mile, which begins at the Lifeguard Station on the beach north of Dunlawton Avenue and ends at the Oceans One Condominium site. And, the Don Large City Museum at the Daytona Beach Shores Community Center, 3000 Bellemead Drive, features a section on the city’s legacy of speed that includes a large photograph of the famous Bluebird V and other racing history memorabilia. The Museum is free and open Monday-Saturday.
