Alpine Lodge Sawmill Restaurant

Their rooms are clean, warm and comfortable every winter. It’s our go-to for skiing in Canaan Valley. Really enjoy the food and service at the restaurant. When my son forgot something in our room that was important to him, they did a really great job of getting it back to us which we really appreciate.

We stopped here for lunch and it was delicious 😋. It took a while to get the food but the lady working was taking orders, cooking, and checking people out...bless her heart. So we of course understood the wait. We had the chili, beef vegetable soup, and the roast beef sandwich (omg!). Perfect homemade food.

Loved this place yes it's older,the negative comments are ridiculous. What did you think you we getting for this unbelievable rate. This area is remote and beautiful and the food couldn't of been better. The staff was the best if you have a problem with these people you are the problem. Stay in that area to hike couple times a year first time here it is now my go to.

The food was homemade and DELICIOUS! We visited the little diner and we were very happy. Prices were great and generous portions.

A beautiful..older lodge,but very clean . Spent time talking with the owner,who has some nice plans for here. Very accommodating if you need anything or suggestions on places to eat or go. Close to ski resorts and Blackwater Falls.

Located very close to Black Water Falls State Park. My 2nd floor room was quiet. I was able to leave before sunrise and saw some beautiful views of morning mists and fog rising in the mountains.

The restaurant has the best breakfasts, hands down. And the homemade bread is the best you'll ever eat! Friendly service and nearby everything. We come here every time we are in Canaan Valley. Highly recommend

Extremely close to Blackwater Falls State Park. Seemed to be popular with both locals and visitors to the area. Lots of stairs to get to resturant on 2nd floor, though apparently there was a handicap accessible point from the rear of building. Biscuits and gravy were wonderful!

What you would expect for a modest inexpensive motel in West Virginia. The Room was clean and rustic. The hot water was blazing hot. One critique is the check in process was very slow. We also ate breakfast at the restaurant which was surprisingly good. Much better than I expected.

You can tell the restaurant has history and sure enough it's been there since 1970s! Nonetheless, the food is wonderful and homemade. The waitresses are friendly. It was the comfort food we needed after getting caught in the rain during the hike in the state park.

This place is exactly as shown in the photos. Quiet, very large, well-insulated rooms. Clean bedding and floors. It was a fantastic stay. The staff was friendly and welcoming.

As for the restaurant, the portions were generous and they were able to accommodate our motley crew of 9 with ease.

There are a lot of comments about the fantastic water pressure of the showers. Although true (!), something must be said about the coffee at the restaurant. It was delightful to have a Real Cup of Coffee™, not watered down, brown colored water that most restaurants serve. Y'all made my morning!

The room was very clean. The resturant was delicious. We were leaving the day after a ton of snow had fallen. We were not used to getting a car out of the snow. A gentleman and a waitress from the resturant came down and helped us get our car unstuck. They went above and beyond customer service. The people here are honest and helpful. I plan to visit many more times.

Honestly, it took me a little bit to like it. It was very outdated and everything. It definitely has a certain charm to it... Small town, little hotel, sweet lady at the desk, but just so different from other hotels I've visited the last few years (like two or three star chain hotels). But really, it was clean, cheap, had everything we needed. No frills, but just nice and simple and relaxing. We brought in our first anniversary there and I wouldn't have traded it for anywhere else. ❤

A number of us stayed at the Lodge and skied at Whitegrass. We had breakfasts at the restaurant where the portions were large and the staff was friendly and attentive.

I have been to the restaurant at least four or five times, with parties fairly large and small. No, there is no fire burning the backsides of the help here; they take their time. This is a consistent complaint with which I must agree. And, the place looks well past its prime. However, the prices are reasonable and the food is good. I have never had any meal that wasn't good; all other guests said the same. This is why I will be returning. I just know to be patient and enjoy the down-home experience.

By far the best place in town for inexpensive eats. Waitresses were friendly and knew the repeat customers and locals. Great coffee and choices for a hot meal to start your day. There is a handicap entrance on the backside as there are stairs leading up to the restaurant from the front entrance. Credit cards welcomed here. A great place to socialize with the locals or other travelers. Kid friendly.

My mother and I stopped in 40 minutes before closing time to have a
late lunch. The place was empty except for the server Michelle. Michelle greeted us with a smile and invited us in to have a seat. We ordered two steak and cheese hoagies, two cups of homade vegetable soup, an ice tea and a lemonade. Michelle was kind enough to customize my ice tea for me just the way I like it. Half sweet tea and half unsweetened. The soup came out first and looked just like my momma made it. My mother agreed, it was delicious. The steak hoagies were also delicious with generous portions of thinly sliced tender steak on a soft hoagie roll. All of that for less than $25. It was a great experience and would definitely go back again. I can't forget to mention that Michelle was friendly, a great conversationalist and an excellent server. She made sure we had everything we needed for a great dining experience. Thank you Michelle.

We ate dinner here! There are a variety of choices on the menu. My husband had trout and said it was great! I had grilled cheese on homemade delicious bread! The service was great! It's old, but clean:)
