My doctor is the best. He is intelligent, empathic and a good listener. We are on the same page when it comes to a medication change. He answers alley questions.

This is a revision to my previous review. Dr. Panzer is a very nice man and is very caring about is patients. My wife is under his care and has severe bipolar disorder. Despite his best efforts she remains unwell not because Dr. Panzer is a bad psychiatrist, but because her condition is so severe that she's not responding to the treatment. I am tired and feel like I am burning out while taking care of my wife. My hope is that Dr. Panzer can stabilize her so she can have at least 1 month where she isn't in bed depressed. The only other worry I have is the lorazepam/ativan she has been on for over 12 years that she has become dependent on. Now it no longer works and she is suffering from anxiety all the time while nothing is done about the lorazepam. Patient is in bed most of the month and has failed to thrive for over a decade. I'm running out of patience and about to have her see another psychiatrist since things have been the same with no improvement for this long. So, yes patients can be difficult to treat. Just realize when it's time to make real changes to the pharmacological treatment plan instead of revolving around the same medications that failed to work in the past. We can't tell a physician what to prescribe, but at some point one should recognize when it's time to see somebody else. Lastly, there are some disciplinary actions taken against this physicians medical license in the past resulting in a restriction to prescribing patients any benzodiazepines for a period of time because of something that happened. This I found out just when researching his history. It makes me more worried about my wife's psychiatric care.

- Prior disciplinary actions against medical license in the past
-License restricted at one time prohibiting any prescribing of benzodiazepines, but was later reinstated
-Limited flexibility regarding medication options when it comes to trying something new

If your not an extremely complicated psychiatric case study than this doctor might be a good choice for you. Every doctor is different when it comes to involving you in your treatment plan as well so try to find someone who gives you some options rather than them making all the decisions regardless of your feelings about it. It's your health care so you have to advocate for yourself otherwise nobody will. Good luck out there it's so hard to find a good psychiatrist that listens and lets you have some degree of decision making when it comes to your treatment options.
