Ni Hoowa Supermarket

Parking and entrance are in the back of the store. Not accessible but always worth the effort. I've been shopping here for years. They have a little bit of everything. Prices are fair and products are varied! Lots of things to keep a curious person busy for years.

The produce isn't always the freshest but they have specialties that are worth the find. A lot of times the produce doesn't need to be perfectly fresh because you're going to ferment it, wilt it, or boil it down anyway.

Had drove by this place a ton of times for years but never stopped. Finally did, and I'm glad I did. Very different items then in a regular supermarket. If you're planning on some Asian cuisine, stop in, they definitely have what you need!!

I love Ni-Hoowa and have been shopping there for over 15 years. They always have my favorite bao from Chef Hon and the vegetable selection is perfect for Asian cuisine and fresh. The owners are super friendly and this is a great place to come and explore a variety of new to me foods and sweets. It's a smaller mom and pop grocery store with a few rows of steamer pots and cooking utensils so I never feel intimidated coming here. The variety of exotic sauces and spices are fun to explore and try out too!

Please read!!!! Something has happened at Ni Hoowa and it's not normal. TLDR; Please please please support them!!!! They have been here for so long and even when they evidently struggle their stuffs are so well priced and legit good products that only come from experienced procurement.

Listen, if you look at the previous bad reviews, they're not lying, my experience is similar: the place is a mess and only two workers are present. After my visit, my spidey sense keeps urging me to do some research.

If you do a simple google photo search, you'd see photos of Ni Hoowa 7 years ago: a nicely organized place with so much asian produce and cultural touches. They were the giant and the pioneer.

Reviewed 7 years ago!!! And founded way before Tiktok!!! They were here before asian culture is appreciated in the US and kungfu was still $3.75 a pop! Why the disarray?? The current chaos??? Why the produce that requires good suppliers such as good meat and bones (if you cook asian dishes you know the specific cuts of meat) are still EXCELLENT, the canned goods so diverse (Im telling you these people KNOW their stuff) BUT THE PLACE IS SO DUMPY??

My theory: they have given up on running a proper store and is hanging on by a thread, but still providing what they do best with their experience with suppliers and experience. Please please please support them!!!! The reason for the struggle you may ask? The place looks like it has been robbed or sabotaged, but I can't find a police record. I even read their public info but no clues. Maybe the pandemic has lost them employees? Profitability? Most importantly, competition. No shade to the other supermarket iykyk Im also a fan of them and Im all for new development BUT that's another reason to save Ni Hoowa, it's saving us too from a monopoly esque market for asian food.

I would not be this hung up on the store if they dont sell genuinely good products at unbeatable prices. I lied, I also notice that they open so so late at night, the workers are elders and they remind me of the working elders with no retirement in Asia.

If you are understandably not comfortable buying fresh food, they have dry canned food too. If you don't need anything from them, I'd just want you to know they used to be the the beacon of asian culture in our neighborhood.

Love this place for all things asian or oriental. :) They are very friendly inside and will help you find what you came to look for. I always come to buy a few things, but come out spending $50+ lol worth the trip!! Wonderful 😊 place here. The owner is very kind,and the stuff inside is great! Bought a ton of cool stuff that you would normally only be able to buy in Japan/china. :)

My wife just immigrated from Taiwan, so she had been looking for ingredients for cooking that she was familiar with. This market had nearly everything we were looking for, minus a few things. Prices were reasonable for the products we bought.

Best store in area for interesting snacks and sauces. Many beautiful decorative items and cookware. I am currently learning how to cook Chinese and Japanese foods..this is a great source for ingredients!

Run down exterior but has a great selection. Very fun to browse. Entrance is around back, not directly off Sheridan. Only place in Amherst I could find Thai basil (at a great price too!)

I've lived very close to this location but only recently discovered this gem. If you are driving down Sheridan Drive, it looks closed. Nope! If you go in the back entrance, you will find a large and diverse market! I always end up buying quite a bit impulsively, but fortunately most items are quite affordable. It's always fun going shopping with my daughter and trying different foods.

Great place with lots of hard to find favorites. Don't let the outside fool you, this place is a local treasure. They also have the BEST prices I've found in the area. Stuff like canned bubble tea, kasugai gummies, soba, glass noodles, taro~ etc, all the good stuff I got hooked on during my time visiting overseas.

Unrelated/only tangentially related, but helpful tip: If you've never tried seirogan for upset stomach, you owe it to yourself to get some AND they usually have it in stock here.

Super friendly. Helped me find everything I needed to cook a traditional Korean meal. Even brought my bags to my car!

I have been going to this store for 14 years and they have always had an unimaginable amount of variety for whatever I was looking for and beyond, fresh produce and products from many countries, at prices lower than I could get anywhere else. The owners and staff have always been fully helpful and courteous. I highly recommend to anyone!

Fantastic place to grab tea(more varieties than anywhere else), rice(ever had black or red rice?), and other imports straight from China. I discovered Pu-erh tea here and always enjoy a quick browse through or a slower walk through to explore new vegetables and items not available in the US.

Blown away by how huge the store was, they had everything under the sun at reasonable prices. Very clean and everything seemed fresh. Because it's so large it might take some getting used to in order to find things easily, but for me that's kind of the fun of it. Can't wait to go back.

I always enjoy this store. They have Asian fare you can't get anywhere else. I like cooking Asian goods from scratch. This is my go to place now. Much better than the smaller stores I've gone to before.

This supermarket has huge selection of Asian food and cooking utensils.

It carries Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean and Malaysian food, spice, source, rice, snacks, and kitchen tools ranging from home use hot-pot sets to frying pan big enough for restaurant kitchen use.

The out look of the place is not that inviting, entrance is at the back of the building, not facing the street. But its Asian collections of food and utensils will amaze you!

This market has excellent packaged and fresh items, unique to asian cuisine. Good prices and some buy in bulk options make it affordable on top of being interesting. Cookware available too. Fun to browse and buy!

After trying great food in Thailand, I went on a shopping spree here when I got back. GREAT STORE, GREAT STAFF !!! Someone commented it's difficult to shop here due to the language barrier, NOPE, I just pull up pictures on my phone of things I need and they show me right were it is. I love it here.

This is a mostly Chinese market but they still have things from other countries. They have fresh vegetables, frozen meats, andamyamy other things. They even have a large cookware section and an area full of dishes .
