This is a wonderful place to visit. The history, location, and ambiance -all create an experience in itself. However, let's be real, its about the food! The thin cut catfish is the thing!! It's the original. Plus, there's not too many places left to try "Turtle Soup". The potions are smaller now days, but you'll not go away hungry. We were blessed that they had homemade peach ice cream on this trip. Love this place!!❤

Seafood player and fried green tomatoes was delicious. Very nice waitress and perfect service. There's an outside area with a kids sand play area, a Pavillion with tables and a pier you can walk out on to view the lake.

We’ve been to Middendorf’s in Manchac dozens of times and even though I say I will try something new each time, I always get the thin cut fried catfish. It is the best I have ever had, by far. Others in our group have tried other dishes and raved, but for me it’s the catfish. A really great place, casual, straightforward and great food.

i have been thinking of this gumbo for weeks!!! the catfish is ofc good too and iconic! the bread
pudding was the most pudding like bread pudding we had in new orleans! loved the turkey, geese, chickens, ducks and roosters in the parking lot, lots of things for the kids

Food was great! The dessert was to dye for. Thought I was full from main meal, but my stomach found room for all my dessert. Our waitress was also great, she was honest on her opinions of the food which we highly appreciate!

I really wish I had taken pictures of the delicious food but sadly I was sooooo hungry. The broiled shrimp was delicious and the thin and crispy fried catfish was absolutely perfect. The hush puppies were addictive and the slaw was tasty too. The warmed bread and fries weren’t our favorite, think they were stale.

Bust place on a Sunday evening so we decided to sit at the bar since there was no wait. The bar tender was really friendly and attentive to anything we needed. Everything we ordered was great; sweet tea, gator bites, thin and thick fried catfish, hush puppies, french fries, it was all really good. They also have a small shop with souvenirs and merchandise (t-shirts, magnets, drink coozies, and more) to take home. Definitely plan to return next time I'm in the area.

Had not been to Middendorf's in years and I an ashamed. This place is such a treat! The food and service is wonderful! We dined on the patio, enjoyed the breeze and had a very satisfying time. Won't wait so long to return.

We love this place! Both locations are great, we live nowhere near here but always stop when we are within 100 miles of either one!

Didn’t mean to come here for lunch but glad we ended up here! We had the thin fried catfish and it was fantastic! Crispy, tasty, seasoned perfectly. Ate it with my fingers! So good!!

Didn’t eat the hush puppies bc they were done too much.

Our server, Jennifer, was wonderful! Friendly service by everyone, even when they were slammed!

Second time here. We really enjoyed it. Service was great no line. Food was delicious we tried the thin catfish and fried shrimp. The coleslaw was fresh the mini loaf of bread was delicious. We visited the gift shop. Then we checked out the wacky chicken house they have built and feed the fish and ducks. Seen the turkeys and chickens. All in all it’s a very nice place atmosphere is very comforting.

Stopped in the daytime for lunch back patio was closed but we sat on the back deck overlooking the patio. Never been here for a concert or music but I can only imagine the atmosphere here is amazing really cool set up super easy to get to on and off the highway great friendly staff really good food. They’ve got kid areas in the back and a really cool bar by the water.

The Turtle Soup and Shrimp Gumbo was really good, as well as the thin fried catfish and crawfish cakes. The only thing slightly off the mark was the hushpuppies. A bit dry but definitely not the worse I've had. The atmosphere is great and I recommend eating either on the deck or patio. Staff was attentive and pleasant. Overall great mid-day place to eat.

We got the whole fried flounder with bones and it was absolutely amazing. It was fried to perfection as you can see the fish came off the bones with no issues. It came with fries, hush puppies and a piece of toast. It fed 2 people. The inside of the restaurant was beautiful and clean. A very unique environment. Will definitely be going back to try more.

My family came from several different states to celebrate my 40th birthday! Brought them to experience the southern Louisiana cuisine and we were not disappointed! Everything from the food to the services rendered was awesome. My kids who don't usually eat alligator, loved the gator bites. I'll have to get their recipe 😆

Friendly service, great selection of specialty drinks, Italian oysters are a must have! The scenery is refreshing and relaxing. Seating outside with the smell of the gulf waters. Definitely will eat there again! Highly recommend!

Mad at myself that we haven’t been here before!

My husband and I have talked about detouring off I-12 to visit Middendorf’s for several years. The timing worked yesterday, and that “detour” will become our new route! O.M.G.

In 100-degree temps, we were able to sit out on a very well air conditioned porch overlooking the water. We ordered something we NEVER order - the “seafood platter.” Most by that name are plates of fried “stuff,” nothing with any effort or flare on the part of the kitchen, and all tasting the same. Oh contraire! The thin-cut catfish they are famous for … we see why!!! (And HOW do they do that??) Delicious fried shrimp - clearly fresh. And the fried oysters and stuffed crab and hush puppies … oh! and the tartar sauce certainly tastes homemade - if it’s not, don’t tell me!)

My husband and I shared the seafood platter, and then ordered another side of the thin-cut catfish. It was the perfect amount for two of us, and EVERYTHING was so fresh and delicious and perfectly cooked.

And last, but not least, our server Stephanie was a gem! We will ask for her WHEN we return - SOON!

Middendorf’s … where have you been all my life (in Louisiana)? :)

We recently dined at Middendorf’’s and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. The seafood was absolutely delicious, but what truly stole the show was the thin fried catfish - it's the best we have ever had, which we say each time we visit, and continues to be wonderful with each visit. Moreover, I was deeply impressed by their accommodation for a member of our party who was in a wheelchair. The staff went above and beyond to ensure their comfort and accessibility throughout the afternoon. It's these thoughtful gestures that truly set Middendorf’s apart.Needless to say, we'll be back soon to indulge in more of your delectable dishes and to once again enjoy the warm hospitality you provide. Thank you for a memorable dining experience! Highly recommend.
