Have been with Dr. Potter since he came to Utah in the early 90s. I was just starting treatment for bipolar disorder when my previous doctor moved to a local university and was not available. Dr. Potter spent extra time studying my case and how the bipolar meds would interact with other medications I needed to treat genetic high blood pressure and the after effects of scarlet fever. In fact, the extra time Dr Potter spent with me was one of the reasons IHC gave when they blacklisted him.

Dr Potter is the only medical practitioner among the very large group of doctors to whom my family pays regular visits (my daughter is working on having a syndrome named for her) who always listens. As young as age two my daughter was able to describe her symptoms and insisted on doing so. Few doctors even gave her the time of day; Dr Potter would listen to her recitation then confirming the details with whichever parent was in attendance.

I am always astonished to read review that describe Dr Potter as rude or insensitive. I will acknowledge some of his prior staff were unnecessarily blunt and, at times, offensive. Having represented some of those individuals in legal matters, I can state unequivocally the rudeness was a result of life experiences unrelated to Dr Potter or the medical office. Unfortunately, multiple individuals were experiencing problems at the same time and the backlash did tend to splash onto patients who were new or not fully aware of the outside issues. Fortunately, all such individuals are no longer employed by Summit View Medical and the current staff are the epitome of professionalism.

Dr Potter is somewhat quirky in how he practices medicine. Most of the quirks (e.g. an insistence on meeting with a patient for long enough to get a solid grasp on the situation rather than the 8 minutes mandated by IHC or 10 minutes by Morningstar) are advantageous to his patients and quickly become reasons to continue to see him. A few of his quirks can be bothersome, especially if he is not taking care of his diabetes, but are outweighed by the positive quirks.

In the final analysis, Dr Potter is not for everyone. If you are looking for a highly efficient doctor who spends the barest amount of time in your presence, go somewhere else. If you want a doctor who is little more than an animatron, go somewhere else. However, if you want a doctor who is a real human being and who cares for each of his patients as a person not just an account receivable, give Dr Potter a try.

I am very happy with the level of care provided by Dr Potter and his staff. Every person is so friendly and genuinely seems to care about me. They go the extra mile and got to know me on a personal level. Very different from pretty much every other doctor's office I've been too, where I felt more like a number than a person.

Dr. Potter is always positive and upbeat. He makes sure he addresses all of your concerns. He treats the patient and not the paper. (Labs ie thyroid)

Dr Potter always takes the time to listen and is always very helpful. He has helped my parents and brother in law with reduced charges and excellent care. Very happy to highly recommend him.

Dr. Potter was the first doctor to listen to me when I explained I thought I had a thyroid disorder. He happily ran tests and diagnosed it as such. I'm grateful for that. But I'm not convinced he did anything special to get me to that point.

I had asked my previous doctors (both in Utah and California) about the possibility of a thyroid disorder due to symptoms I was experiencing. Neither doctor diagnosed it. Finally, my friend who is in the middle of her Residency told me I needed to go to a specialist and recommended Dr. Potter due to a list of her Attending gave her of doctors experienced with thyroid disorders in Utah.

So I told him what was wrong, asked for the specific tests, and he sent me to the lab in his office to run them. It turns out my levels were extremely bad by the time I made it to see him. He didn't have to do much work to diagnose me, because I already knew what was wrong.

He started me off on a low dosage, though my levels deserved something higher. But I respected his caution and moved forward with his plan. The low dosage didn't do much of anything, so I had to go back every 3 weeks until we finally reached a level that my health was improving. That is, I went in every 3 weeks for 4 months until I finally begged him to give me a higher dose so I could stop paying $186 every three weeks( that is not including the lab bill!)! He reluctantly agreed and I had to return a week later to run tests again.

We moved two week after my final lab work, and when my pharmacy and I tried to get a 7 day refill on my thyroid medication before I met with my new provider, he refused to refill it. And it wasn't his office refusing it, they asked him personally and he still refused. While I wish I could understand the rave reviews I found and read of him before I went to his office, I had the opposite experience and I'm pleased to be going elsewhere.

DR. VERNON POTTER DOES MORE HARM THAN GOOD. This is a complete and total embarrassment of a "doctor". He had a strong role in making my 87 year old grandpa's life much more miserable than it has to be. He's incorrectly identified several different issues with my grandpa, wasting our time and money (two things he doesn't have very much left of). He ignorantly prescribed him the wrong prostate medication and told him to take it at the wrong times, making it extremely hard for him to sleep at night. This man has no clue what he's doing and needs to have his license revoked.

do NOT see this "doctor". he has taken years off of one of my grandparents lives because he has no idea what he is doing and has no idea what he is prescribing to them. one of my grandparents was given heavy sleeping medications without our consent or knowledge. this medication we now know is not meant to be given to ANYONE over 65. we are still picking up the pieces from this horrible medical injustice. this man is not board certified. save your time, money, and sanity and see someone who will take care in what medications they give you and what they diagnose you with. i am appalled.

Worst doctors office I’ve ever been to.. Dr Potter and his staff are rude. We left before the doctor ever made it to the room to see us because of how rude the staff was being towards us. We went in to try to establish a relationship with a new doctor and the staff questioned us as to why we were even there. We made two appointments weeks ago and gave our info but they failed to make both. On our way out he tried to stop us from leaving and it turned into him blaming us for not being informed on how his office does things. He place all blame on us for his staff not scheduling an appointment that was made 4 weeks prior. Him and his staff are exactly the same just in it for the money and they don’t care about anyone as real people they just see dollar signs when you walk in and you can feel it. Don’t go here. Save your time and money and go to place with good reviews. I didn’t take them seriously and I should have.

This was the worst staff I’ve ever been to. Dr Potter was rude and combative. His office staff and nurses were just as rude and short as he was. I went there to try to build a relationship with a doctor my wife and I could come to when we needed something. I would rather go to an Instacare than have to even talk with them. Never go here if you value yourself, your time and your money. That’s all he wants is your money and he will be disrespectful and rude when he takes it. Never go here he has low reviews for a reason and I should have listened to them myself before coming and that was my fault for not taking them seriously.

I sent my son in to see Dr Potter for. A well check because my Health insurance covers these 100%. The appointment was scheduled as a physical, no co pay was requested at the appointment. The next month I get a bill from them for $55.00. I call because this was a well check up. The rude person who answered the phone said because the doctor gave him a prescription it was no longer considered a well check. 1- Dr Potter asked him a lot of questions about his health. 2- my son didn't ask for a prescription, Dr Potter suggested he get one. Since he is the doctor why wouldn't my son say ok. The doctor knew this was a well check up he shouldn't have suggested something he knew wasn't covered.

Terrible office staff and money hungry Doctor. Don't go to him!!!!

I don't want to give him even one star he is a terrible doctor. He cares more about his wallet then his patients. I'm over 60 and will pay for good care you will not get it from him. His care contributed in needing emergency surgery.

I would highly suggest you find an alternative Dr. I have seen quite a few and I'm not impressed with his staff or himself. No communication what so ever!!!! Zero stars... If you are on a medicine that you have to have continual refills, don't call him. My mother in law was out of her meds for almost 5 days and he wouldn't refill just enough until she saw him. She's 70 and very sick. He tested her 2 months prior to this visit and he wanted to test her again, even though he didn't change medications that she's been taking for over 20 years. I think it's unnecessary for all of the testing.

The receptionist is SO RUDE. When we last spoke over the phone it ended with me in tears because she wouldn’t let me speak when trying to schedule an appointment. She’s been disgusting to my whole family. I will be finding care elsewhere.
