Heck of a drive but worth it. Views are amazing. You can even bring your off-road vehicles.

Confusing to get to so make sure you map out which NF roads to take. Moderate uphill hike, we parked in a clearing area and walked up one gated road which lead to another gated road. Beautiful view from the top is amazing how far you can see.

Incredible drive to this lookout. Do NOT attempt during winter unless you drive something like a keep.

About .8 Mike walk from the gate to the look out tower. The tower itself is rundown and closed off with a fence. Good 360 views from the ground. The road from the gate passes through a clearcut.

Although there was a forest fire up here recently, it still is an amazing place. Even if the gate is closed, it is worth the hike to see the top.

The look out was really cool. It sucks so many people have vandalized it and broke widows etc.

The serpentine soil flowers!, veiws are awesome, if you can ignore the thousands of acres of fire scar. The lookout has seen better days

Census-designated place in Oregon

Merlin is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in Josephine County, Oregon, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 1,615. The area is known for sport fishing and whitewater rafting on the Rogue River. Merlin's ZIP code is 97532. A new railroad station in this location in 1883 was called "Jump Off Joe" for a local stream. The station was renamed "Merlin" in October 1886. The name came from a railroad civil engineer who named it for the merlins he saw in the area. source
