Wailau Trail

This is always a good hike up to the Ridgetop. Conditions are currently very dry. The upper Boggs near the summit were pretty much non-existent with lower trail conditions being quite dry. This is the first time I've been to the summit and had sunshine. We were able to see over to the North coast. The trail is overgrown as usual.

Enjoyed visiting the sacred temple and hiding the trail. Got a little steep at points, be careful on your return coming down.

The conditions were wet, we stepped through knee-deep mud but managed to go up to the ridge. Path was difficult to find at times. But we had good conditions in terms of no rain and clouds, so we could see the north shore. Is probably better for hiking in summer. Views until pine tree forest were amazing!

Agreed that the path is difficult to follow as it’s not well trafficked according to the locals. There is a gate at the entrance which was intimidating since we saw so many no trespassing signs before and after it. But there is a sign for the trailhead up the path, right past the house. We made it to the temple but the path afterwards was a bit of a scramble and not well marked. Still, worth it for sure. It’s a great view even just a few feet from the temple.
