This place is such a neat little hidden gem. Don't be confused by the words interpretive center, it is a museum. They had unique & authentic displays centered around local history. For a privately owned almost mom & pop type establishment, full of largely donated exhibits they really surprised me. The gentleman who runs the front was very friendly & full of passion to save & revive this little piece of hometown pride. It's easily found & a very short trip off the freeway. A welcome & needed stop in a section of I5 with very few quick road trip attractions that don't revolve around outdoor activities. Show them some love & support to bring it back. Hoping they find the ability to begin Applegate trail reenactments again.

I didnt even know this place existed. We found it online googling ideas of what to do. It was fun, specially if you enjoy history. Walk across the covered bridge to go visit the grave of a 16 year old girl who died on the Oregon trail, very humbling experience.

A look back into the reality of what an extraordinary feat people blindly chose to endure to settle this wilderness. Hardship doesn't begin to describe what the people experienced. Did you know it was promoted by the US inorder to claim it before the King of England did? There was no regard for the indigenous people as usual. Also, the only other route once here, was a raft trip down the Columbia. Mr. Applegate pioneered and forged this path. Crazy! You should definitely check out this place. The Docent is very welcoming and encouraging about the musuem's many wonders. Look up hours online before making the trip.

A kind guitar playing host greets you then prepares you for the movie and tour. It is a large building full of amazing authentic items from locals as well as items found on the Applegate Trail itself. Well designed and informative. I’ve never been to a “hands on” type of museum and I loved it. It was an amazing experience. A must see. Rich in history. So glad we went. And it’s next to the covered bridge! Amazing day. Stop by there if you’re driving N or S I5 you won’t regret it.

My Husband and I are locals and had been meaning to visit the museum for the longest time, we finally did so today. It is literally "Chockers" full of local history, from the genuine antiques and artifacts, cinema/movie representation, and interactive displays. President Hayes is also mentioned with photos. Extremely well worth visiting! Can not recommend it high enough! Only open during Summer Months however so visit while you can. Donations appreciated to keep this history alive. This hidden gem of a museum brings to life the hardships and sacrifices experienced by early settlers brave enough to journey west over the Applegate Trail in the mid-1800s. Exhibits are beautifully displayed and documented with many personal accounts. This is SO much more than just a few dusty artifacts! Much thought, time and care has been taken to illustrate this aspect of the American West. It is truly a worthwhile stop for anyone who appreciates the fortitude and pioneer spirit of these early settlers.

Very detailed and accurate interpretation of the Applegate trail and the people who blazed the trail west to Oregon. It is very interactive as you walk through with tons of artifacts , murals , and many other things to see. Really recommend this lost treasure of knowledge to anyone who likes history and the way we became part of this country.

This is an incredible museum! My husband and I just happened to be driving south from Roseburg, OR, on interstate 5 and saw the sign for The Applegate Trail Museum. Not only are the displays and information amazingy well done, but we thoroughly enjoyed the personal narrations done by a 91 year old gentleman named Darrell whose great-grandparents rode the Applegate Trail as well as Betty (owner) who told us about Martha Leland Crowley who at age 16 died of typhoid fever. I highly recommend spending 1-2 hours in this wonderful museum.

Spectacular museum nestled away in Sunny Valley. We had a great experience here, and even had something of a private concert! Highly recommended if you're driving down I5 and want to do something interesting for a half hour or so.
