Fun Irish pub restaurant and bar. It was easy to get to right off of I-40. The inside is beautiful and I would encourage you to walk around and check it out - the stained glass is very pretty and some of it is from Ireland! There is a mix of tables and booths and they were able to accommodate our party of 6 with no wait. Our waitress was friendly and answered all of our questions. Our drinks from the bar were very good.
We ordered the loaded tots, pretzel bites and crab dip as appetizers. We enjoyed all three. The portions were large and great for a group to share. We tried the pork tenderloin, steak, ribs and chicken wrap and enjoyed our meals - everything came out hot and was cooked well. The side salad was huge (and they have good ranch, IFYKYK.) I didn’t love the mac and cheese, but it was still good. We will definitely be back again.

Absolutely love this place when traveling through. The atmosphere and food are both great.

Literally feel like this place is a gem that you randomly find one day, then think about all the time afterwards. Wish I lived closer to it! The food is expertly crafted and I feel as though it is wasted on those who wolf it down.

I want to highlight the shrimp and grits for a moment. Too often I find myself ordering shrimp and grits with excitement, only to be disappointed by mushy grits and overcooked shrimp. Both are easy to do. But here, oh here at the Mad Boar they craft it perfectly every time! The Cajun sauce, the grits, the tomatoes, and the shrimp! They are all perfect and oh so desirable.

Oh and my wife said she liked the flatbread…ya know…because it’s bread.

Anyway, give this place a try and experience the delicious food and timeless decor. Even though this place looks fancy, I find it kid/family friendly and I’ve only gone in shorts, so don’t feel like ya need to dress up. But if you did dress up, this place would be the best backdrop for some awesome photos.

Stopped for lunch after going by it many times on the way to the beach. The side salad was a very good size for the add-on price, fresh, and tasty. Our drinks stayed full. We received our main meal in a reasonable time for a lunch work break. My wife asked for a deconstructed chicken wrap, and their was no hesitation for them to accommodate us. I was within two bites of getting it all down as it was a good portion.
It's a little dim, but a lot of effort was put into the elegant atmosphere. I did see one torn bench seat, and that small detail can detract from the overall appearance. We would eat here again when traveling through.

Beautiful elegant decor and design, like nothing else out there. Not modern but classic feels. I got the Cuban Sandwich with potatoes wedges, an it was delicious.. a must try otw back from the NC beaches or otw too.

Had a nice quiet lunch of baby back ribs and fried green tomatoes. Perhaps the most beautifully carved bar I've ever seen. Only fault I find is the distance between the underside of the bar and the seat of the chairs was rather short. I'm a slim guy, and couldn't cross my legs. Someone larger than me might find it too tight to sit at the bar. I recommend a table for those.

A very unique local restaurant with excellent food. Interior design is very boardroom wood design. The bar area is awesome. The pork chop had bold flavor but need to cook MR otherwise meat is tough.

Unexpected surprise. Was a few hundred feet off of 40 on the way home from Wilmington. Place was enormous, servings were far larger than expected. Quality was very good and tasted wonderful.
Even the indoor decor was surprising... I left a few photos.
This will likely be our midway stop for lunch whenever we are on our way back from the beach.

Such a wonderful experience! We celebrated a retirement with a party of 14. The food was amazing and the decorations for Christmas made it such a special meal. My food was not brought out with everyone else’s (which happens frequently at most places that an order this big doesn’t all come up at once) and they took it completely off the tab. The food was out quickly. Service was excellent!

Not sure why the 4.2. Definitely 5.0 for us. Started with the crab dip, quite tasty even for coastal experts. The brisket sandwich was tender and tasty. The macaroni and cheese with brisket was again a wow. The salmon was cooked nicely.

On our way to Oak Island ( Sunday) we stopped for a bite. The atmosphere was awesome, our waiter had a wonderful personality, he told us the specials & a brief history when we asked about this Beautiful Restaurant. We had a great fried chicken breast ( so tender & flavorful ) w/ corn cut from the cob mashed potatoes homemade w/ homemade gravy. Vary good! Sorry forgot photos of that meal. With a sweet tea $13.26 well worth it. Stopped on the way back we had the pulled pork. I had the meal w/ slaw & veggies. My friend had the pulled pork sandwich w/ slaw & fries. Both vary good mine came to $14.00 & theirs was $12.00. Just as great as the 1st time. We will be back. Not over priced & vary good!

Highly recommended! The most beautiful pub I’ve seen, we were fascinated to know more about the history of this place, some wood pieces in their bar and all their stained glass were shipped directly from Ireland. It made me feel like I was in a different place. Their customer service was superb, the food was delicious too, we absolutely loved it! 👍🏻

This was a first time experience for myself with my father. I had been told many times that this restaurant was good but expensive. The first assertion was absolutely correct, but the second I believe is incorrect; the prices are fair for the quality of the ingredients and the preparation of the meal. I ordered a cheeseburger; it was immense, the patty was thick, and it had fresh jalapeños, as I asked for them. My father ordered their fried shrimp, and let me tell you that I am often disappointed by shrimp in many restaurants, to the extent that I have given-up on trying to find some that are fresh and larger than a quarter. My dad’s shrimp were slightly larger than a half-dollar and they were fresh, deveined, and lightly battered; I was impressed. The hostess was polite and the waiter was prompt, instinctive, and happily made our order to-go when I realized my father had an appointment and we couldn’t dine-in. I hope you have a similar experience.

First time visiting The mad Boar 🐗.... delightfully delicious, it's a must stop now on my adventures to that area... the fried pickles 😋 were to die for. My BBQ was delicious my wife chose the chef salad. All of it was outstanding! Our waitress Jessica took really great care of us.

Awesome food and our server, whose name I forgot but her nickname is Sunshine and she definitely fits it, was beyond incredible. Her picture is included in this review and please let her know how much we appreciated the service she provided.
I had the shrimp with grits and it was beyond any shrimp and grits I've ever had. I would go back there, and it's 2 hours away, just for that dish. Everyone else I was there with also enjoyed their food. I know one had a steak and cheese and another had the shrimp with grits and said the same thing I did.
The ambience was nice and they have different choices for where to sit which included the dining room or the bar area. We chose the bar area.
Only knock is they don't have Guinness on tap, only cans.

Mad Boar was an interesting stop. They offer a great nacho plate with smoked pork. We decided to order the days special a pulled pork sandwich with North Carolina BBQ sauce and queso cheese. The sandwich was sloppy, difficult to eat but delicious. I also chose the sauteed zucchini and squash. It was thinly sliced and sauteed in butter.
When you visit the Mad Boar you walk in through the main entrance. There is a large bar area to the right and a larger dining area to the left. Beyond the dining area is a large event room. They offer more than pork here and have a great selection of beef products and salads.

I had heard many radio advertisements about this place for sometime but hadn't been there. The ads seemed like a lot of hype due to the location being around a smaller rural town just off I-40 between Benson and Wilmington NC. But, the ads were spot on. We happened to be close by so decided to check to it out. When we pulled into the parking lot I was immediately drawn to size and very astetic looks of the exterior. It has been a while since I felt wowed! Upon entering, the interior design and atmosphere was very appealing and just plain cool. I can't really explain it but I found the restaurant to be different and good. Its design would remind me of a restaurant found around a major tourist town. Once seated, the waitress was quick to greet us at our table. On the menu there was a good choice and variety of things to please the palet from appetizers to the main menu. I would say the general menu was centered around all good things southern style from local N.C. to Texas, Mexican, and New Orleans. The prices were typical of any restaurant of it class. Appetizers avg. 7$, main courses $14-$25, deserts $7. They also served wine, beer and other mixed drinks at the typical prices. There are at least two bars. I would class one as a basic sports area with a small stage that has entertainment at times. At least one other bar is inside a main dining area. The restaurant is quite large and appears to have multiple banquet rooms for those special events. I gave the Mad Boar ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ because it wowed me for all things in its location.

A little out of the way but we’ll worth the trip. My wife and I go here on “date night”. We try to sit in the pub area because of the atmosphere. We’ve had a variety of the menu options and have yet to be disappointed.
