RHouse wine & cafe

My wife and I were given a gift certificate to RHouse, and we had tried for months to get there to use it. We first walked in, not knowing you had to have a reservation. Then we tried doing an order to pick up, and the owners were out of town. We finally made it last Friday evening, two weeks after the certificate expired. They were gracious enough to still honor the certificate, plus we added our daughter at the last minute a day they made room for her as well.

My wife had the meat Lasagna, I had the seafood special that night, and our daughter had the chicken lasagna. We started off with spinach and artichoke dip, shrimp special, and the cheese and meat platter from around the world. Everything was absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. You can tell the owners love what they are doing at RHouse Wine & Cafe.

We will most definitely make reservations many more times in the future. The next time, we will definitely have to try the desserts. We just ate too much food that night to get dessert.

Husband and wife team, Juan and Chef Gisela have created a perfect food haven with sprinkles of ambiance and love in small town Basye, VA.

On a long weekend retreat, we ventured to Basye and were looking for a nice place to eat. Options looks limited, but stumbled on Rhouse. We were hesitant to engage, but took a chance and were wildly surprise.

The ambiance is wonderful. Beautifully decorated like a five star restaurant with comfy chairs, nice restaurant views from every and well appointed bathroom. You might think you have to dress fancy, but we went in shorts and flip flops and were welcomed with open arms.

The food was incredible! The first night, we had the beef lasagna and pork special. We both had food envy and gobbled up every bit.

We enjoyed our dinner so much, we made a reservation for the following night. We enjoyed the paella special and braised short ribs.

The wine and beer selections were well appointed. Note that they do not have a liquor license.

As world traveling foodies, we've enjoyed many Michelin top rated restaurants and feel strongly this one deserves to be considered.

It is a gem! Everybody was extremely friendly and the food did not disappoint. We had the frozen sangria, honey apple salad, mushroom dish, short ribs, baby back ribs, key lime cheese cake and brownie! The mushroom dish was my favorite. Mushroom in a garlic butter. Went well with bread and even more delicious on top of the mash potatoes with my main course. The ribs were tender and juicy. Both of the deserts were delicious but the warm brownie was the best! Highly recommend stoping if you're in the area! Reservation are highly encouraged

RHouse is a contender with the Michelin star restaurants I have visited. The establishment is beautifully designed. The owners (Juan and his lovely wife) make dinning an experience from start to finish. The menu and wine selection were second to none. The spinach artichoke dip and charcuterie were amazing. We also had the chicken verde, the winter salad, the baby back ribs, and the chicken lasagna and could not decide which dish was our favorite. We were celebrating my 39th birthday during our visit and the Juan’s wife (who is also the amazingly talented chef) agreed to make a delicious cake for us to celebrate. I cannot say enough wonderful things about RHouse, the atmosphere, cuisine, owners and staff. They made my birthday a wonderful experience I will never forget!

What an amazing, local, jem of a restaurant! Everything about the entire experience was so great! The food, the service, the atmosphere, it was all perfect.

I cannot write enough wonderful things about RHouse. My husband and I were vacationing from NJ, so we tend to have slightly high food standards given where we live, and RHouse did not disappoint. This was hands down some of the best food we have ever had. Everything was so flavorful and fresh. The sangria was also amazing, so much flavor! Not only was the food fantastic but Juan, the owner was so incredibly friendly, caring, and welcoming. He really spent his time getting to know us and made us feel like we were the only customers at his cozy restaurant. Almost everyone that walked in he seemed to know and greeted them with the warmest welcome. I wish this restaurant wasn’t so far away from home or else this would 100% be a regular spot.

My husband and I were in Shenandoah for our honeymoon and this was our favorite meal. We shared a bottle of sparking and charcuterie board. He had the short ribs and I had the beef lasagna, both were AMAZING. We finished the meal with the Spanish Flan, recommended by the owner. We truly had the best dining experience and felt right at home.

I came here for my anniversary with my husband. We had a bunch of stuff and everything was great! The service was really great too. Make a reservation if you can. It's a small operation and the attention to detail is great. Go here if you get a chance!

We celebrated our anniversary here. It is small and intimate but not dark. The service and food were excellent, especially the mashed potatoes. I also enjoyed their playlist. We will return.

My husband and I came to the area to celebrate our one year anniversary. We had a wonderful dinner at RHouse and loved the staff there, as they were very warm and welcoming. I started with the winter salad which was lite and nice and had the short ribs as my main entree. I think the short rib was a bit more beef stew-like and I’d probably order something different the next time. I appreciated that they were super accommodating and gave me all veggies instead of the accompanying mashed potatoes (which my husband said were awesome btw). My hubby had the ribs and he just raved about them. I had a bite and agree they were yummy! Next time we are in the area, we will definitely be back. It’s a small place, so I definitely recommend a reservation.

Can I give it a 6? This place is unbelievable! Juan (owner) took good care of me, and the salad and the short ribs were SPECTACULAR! Have a reservation to go back. It's worth every penny!

What a beautiful restaurant and winery. The owners were so sweet, the atmosphere was warm and inviting , the food was delicious and unique and the service was excellent! It was a perfect evening!

The food was amazing. We got the chicken lasagna and short rib which was incredible and I highly recommend it. The Spanish flan for dessert was also great. Everything is homemade as well. The waitress was really nice and helpful. I can’t wait to comeback next time.

We have been wanting to try R house for while but never were organized enough to make a reservation. We are so glad we did. The food, wine and beer were outstanding. Highly recommend trusting Juan’s beer and wine recommendations. We mostly stuck with the specials and loved the Caprese and risotto. We will definitely be back!

Outstanding! Delicious food and great service. This is a great find in Basye right near Shrine Mont. We visited on St. Paddy's Day to celebrate a birthday and enjoyed a wonderful meal and excellent service from Juan! The atmosphere is very homey and comfortable, feels like you stepped into a neighbor's house for dinner. The drink and menu options are varied without being too overwhelming. We loved everything from the charcuterie board to the appetizer salad and soup and the short ribs. We definitely plan to be return for another visit. It's a must stop if you're in the area.
