We had visited the museum in St. Joseph where the Pony Express began, and this was one of the stops on the long path westward. We stopped for a short time to take in the sights and look the place over. The local volunteers were informative and nice. The place was clean and well kept. Not much for small children probably but for a couple of adults looking for an excuse to get out of the car it was fine.

I made it. A bucket list place. Our American heritage and historical memories can be of good things, like the Pony Express. The first original station, standing there since 1854. How far out is that! Glad we stopped and soaked up history. Because, it is my history.

Excellent preserved presentation of this important short lived station. It's always a good day when my exploring leads to learning more history.

Excellent stop to experience a piece of short lived history. The woman who volunteered at the museum was a wealth of information and delightful to talk with. We learned a lot! We stopped as a way to stretch our legs on the long trip through Nebraska, and it turned out to be a welcomed pleasant and interesting surprise! We highly recommend taking time to stop if you're in the area or passing through .

What a delightful little surprise. We stopped for lunch at the park while traveling through the area and this little museum was part of the park. We learned a lot, loved the gift shop and free stickers. I particularly loved the link to the YouTube podcasts about the history in the area. We listened to those after we left. Great education elements for my homeschoolers. The attendant in the museum was very friendly and kind.

Great piece of history to see. Nice place to stretch your legs as well as it has been relocated to a nice park setting. The station is open with lots of memorabilia and the lady working was so nice and knowledgeable. If you are a smashed penny collector, they have three designs to pick from, or collect all three.

We were lucky to be there the first day it was open, April 3. That is the first day of the Pony Express. They also end on their last day. Their staff were very helpful! Great short visit!

great spot to stop and learn a little more about the early mail service.
These people were pretty brave and willing to work through adversity.

Cute park and great story! The docent was friendly, informative & a pleasure to chat with.
Nice pit stop for those on the road. There's no bathroom at the museum but there is in the park.

It's a quick and fun stop to make. Interesting history signs to read, friendly staff, and the surrounding park is a beautiful place to eat lunch or relax.

Love the history and display of genuine artifacts inside the Pony Express building.

Interesting info; inside is a desk or counter where you can buy things. But take a look at the counter top. I now wish I would have taken a picture, but under the glass top are almost 4,000 pennies, all the Lincoln heads are up and facing the same direction. The use of shiny and tarnished heads are placed so perfectly to spell out a phrase...
It's worth the trip to see this history and while doing it, see what all the pennies spell out.

An interesting living history. The ambitious business of Pony Express to provide a coast to coast mail service was short-lived after telegraph lines were laid. With the astronomical cost of $5 (remember it was in 1860), the postal service was exclusively catered to government business through which the Union and Confederacy competed to obtain the support of California. The cabin that houses the museum is a reconstructed Pony Express station, one of the many where mail riders were supplied with fresh horses, each being roughly 10 miles apart.

A cool little place to stop if you're passing through. The building you enter was once the top part of a two story building and the horses were kept underneath. It's really a cool place of history and is even more enjoyable if you've seen the Pony Express museum in St. Joseph, MO. There is a little gift shop inside, and a park behind where kids can stretch their legs.

What a nice little stop just off I-80! This is a beautiful example of a typical pony express depot, moved here from another location a few miles west. It was closed when we stopped by, but you can still see it from the outside no problem, since it's a town park. Great place to stretch your legs and get into the western feel, especially if you're driving west.

Fun clean area to see a little bit of American history. Clerk was very knowledgeable. And I have to post a picture of the poppies that were across the street. They were the biggest I have ever seen.

Grounds are meticulously maintained and the site is welcoming even after hours. Good information and welcoming town is interesting and the people are proud of their heritage. Easy to get to with good city infrastructure.

Nice, if ever too tiny, spot of American history. The cabin was placed here surrounded by a guy blown arboretum in a city park.

Well worth the stop.

Drove by the sign for years and finally stopped. It's a neat fun little history museum. Staff is very knowledgeable and likes to talk. The park that it sits in is also very nice. Great for a quick stop on your travels. There is also a small gift shop.

We visited here back in 2006 and were passing through again and decided to stop for another visit. Really cool historical place, it's not in the original location, it was moved to this park but not far. There is a nice little gift shop inside and lots of information about the history of the pony express. You can even mail postcards from here too!
