The Bear and the Books

Wonderful gem of a bookstore! Mostly children's literature, but my teen (15yo) found 5 books (that kid is a bookworm, though). The owner is lovely, helpful, and did a great job offering suggestions to my oldest. Comfy atmosphere with little Easter egg critters all hidden around the store. Cannot wait to go back!

Treat yourself to a lengthy stay at this warm and wonderful house of books. Admittedly, the name was enough to reel me in.

I was welcomed in by the shop's owner, Bobbie Fishman, and chatting with her was in itself worth the visit. Learn her story while there.

In the end I had to limit myself to three books, but every shelf warrants a day's visit. Bobbie is selective in her curation and rightfully so. All titles I took home were ones she had featured; I'm convinced she can anticipate who will walk through that door and sets out just what they've come for.

Great books but what makes this place really special is the owner. If you have a child that you need to get a gift for then this is the place. Walk in and let her know what/who you are looking for and you'll get some fantastic options. Concerned that you'll get a local child a book they already have, don't worry if they show at Bear and the Books as they keep a list of already purchased items for the child. BONUS: Pay in cash and exact change and get a special surprise.

It's also a great place to read a book to a young child. They have seating in child size such as a chair with the legs cut off or stools cut down to kid size.

Update: 8 years later this place and the owner are still incredible. Partially because of Bear and the Books, my daughter at age 10 is an avid reader. Instead of having to tell her to put a screen down, we have to ask her to put a book down. Instead of struggling to get her out of bed in the morning, she wakes up early and reads a book until her alarm goes off. Thank you beat and the Books

The owner is dedicated to supporting quality literature for all ages of children. Her book shop is welcoming, as is she. I return often for myself, as well as to buy gifts for all ages. I love that she places books on display next to each other to make fun, short sentences (see photo). She is clever and sweet, and so is her shop.

This place is fantastic. The proprietor, Bobbie, is incredibly helpful. She has an amazing story and a great selection. She can suggest books for all kids of all ages, especially lesser known books that are really quite awesome. She also has a way to help you get books to kids in need. You need to go here and ask her about that!

A lovely bookstore geared toward children and young adults. It is a great place for more unique books. The owner is very sweet and helpful. You have the option of having the books gift wrapped in store which was a nice touch. The store also does a book of the month service, which could make a great gift for a child of any age.

Bobbi, the owner, is truly a rare gem! She has impeccable taste when it comes to choosing children’s books. Her customer service is beyond amazing. She is my go to for gift giving. Skip the impersonal large book stores and visit this local shop.

The Bear and the Books is an absolutely amazing little bookstore. Bobbie Fishman, the owner possesses the uncanny ability to help you pick out the perfect book for any child, teen, or adult. Most of her books are geared toward youth she can order anything from any genre for you. If you are lucky enough, she will even read a book to you and that is an absolutely amazing experience. The only thing missing is the milk and cookies and naptime. This cozy nook is a wonderful gem in Hopewell Valley and we are fortunate to have Bobbie Fishman and The Bear and the Books in our area. Buy local. Buy often.

Every time i go into the Bear and the Book I find a book that i can't possibly live without. After reading it i put it in to my big book drawer for the birthday or any other occasion. I have 4 great nieces an one great nephew who get packages at odd times of the year.
She also will order any book my husband or I might like to read. So much better that going to one of the bigbox book stores or ordering it on line.
