This preserve is amazing. You get the feel of a lot of the Acadia National Park Trails, but without the crowds of people, noise, distractions, etc. No dogs are allowed, and it quickly becomes apparent why. Much of the trail is the rocky coast, with lots of plank walking, roots, and what my kids called mini parkour rock hopping 😜. No cell service is available. It's a remote area, so I suggest not going alone, especially true if you are not a semi experienced hiker.

This is a great trail. We only had sneakers and this was a big mistake - wear good hiking boots as so easy to twist a foot!!! The rocky shore part of the trail was the most fun following the blue marks painted on the big rocks. The really rooted spots or the beaches made up of fist size rocks were difficult walking. We were extremely cautious as there is no cell service if one of us had twisted an ankle. If you only do part of the trail and miss out on the big flat beach rocks and finding the blue lines...you miss out on the most fun part...so be sure to do some of that rock.

Late August 2022. Hiked the loop trail with two young teens. The trail is moderate to difficult and mostly well marked. Many parts are a bit overgrown at this time of year so pants are recommend. Lots of rocks to navigate through and over so allow some extra time. Costal sections are gorgeous.

I wish I could've hiked this on a good weather day! I more than likely would have given it more stars. If you're looking for less populated parts of Maine, this is one! There's a small parking lot at Great Wass, and a great majority of the trail is literally on the rocky coast itself. Quite an interesting experience.

Trails overgrown. Not sure the map mile measurement is accurate? It will take you much longer to complete, then you think.
