Hanging Horn Lakeside Resort

I don't even remember how I found this place but I'm so glad I did. Charlie was accommodating and helpful before our arrival, greeted us when we got there, and was super friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The lodge was great, super rustic, room was comfortable. Not fancy, but we wanted laid back and comfortable on a quiet lake and that's exactly what we got. They have canoes, kayaks and paddle boats that are free to use. Light breakfast in the morning. I one million percent would return. If you like hidden gems off the beaten bath, I HIGHLY recommend.

We had so much fun here even though it rained the whole weekend! We stayed in a cute little cabin that was perfect for our family. They had books, games and movies to borrow. I can only imagine all the extra fun that would have happened if it was nice and we could have used the water toys!

A delightful and peaceful little lodge on the edge of a beautiful lake. Hostess is kind and attentive to guest needs. Facilities are old and rustic, as one would expect of such a place, and the walls are a bit thin so you may hear your neighbors. However, the hostess is wonderful, the grounds are beautiful, and the boat rentals and breakfast spread are an awesome perk. 10/10 would recommend, can’t beat the amenities for the price!

Very clean, super comfortable bed, and the lake view from the corner room is gorgeous. It's so dark at night the stargazing is spectacular. Friendly host was accommodating. Will be back, thanks :-)

We stayed here for the first time a few weeks ago and can't wait to come back again. We loved the location on the quiet beautiful lake away from town and the freeway. The huge windows and views in suite #1 were incredible! As soon as we arrived we saw ducks and beavers not 100 feet from our window. We loved the full kitchen in our room and found it to be equipped with you every thing we would possibly need. The only negative we found was that the walls are quite thin. We heard quite a bit from the room next door and we could tell they weren't even being loud. We can't wait to return with our kids and book one of the cabins when it warms up a bit. We are excited to paddle around that lake and explore!

We enjoyed a very pleasant and restful first stay at Hanging Horn while escaping the heat of the city. The hotel was clean and staffed by great people including the owners who were visible and helpful (other locations could learn something!). Nearby restaurants we just OK while fishing was very good. We're looking forward to returning.

Had a lovely week-long vacation here. The lake is beautiful and the facilities are charming and rustic. But the real delight was the staff who went out of their way to be friendly and accomodating (for example they switched us to a nicer cabin not because we had any issue with the one we were in, but just because it was available).

Can't recommend them highly enough.

We have stayed here twice now. It is more than just a room to stay for the night. Wake up have a little breakfast consisting of cereal, donuts, fresh fruit, or oatmeal. Maybe some other things. It is out in the country on a private lake. They have canoes, kayaks, and a paddle board to go paddle around the lake. There is a little dock to jump off and go swimming. It is a warm and cozy place to stay. We have gotten the same room twice by coincidence and it has been nice. Well kept. The owners are very friendly and we enjoy chatting with them. Great place to stay near Duluth.

This "off-the-beaten-track" resort, feesl like it is, but it is easily accessible. Beautiful, quiet setting on a small lake. The staff is excellent.

Absolutely gorgeous place, the view out our window was incredible. The hotel was very clean and cozy, and the staff was very friendly.

Second time staying at Hanging Horn and again exceeded our expectations! The staff is so nice and very helpful. The kids loved playing on the beach and using the kayaks and canoe. Our room had a beautiful lake view and was very clean and comfortable. It was the perfect place to stay on the way up to the North Shore, and next time we will stay longer.

We actually have a cabin on Little Hanging Horn and my daughter and I decided to check out the resort. We spent 2 nights in lodge room #7. It was a corner room and the views were AMAZING! This is coming from someone who grew up on the lake lol Beautiful! And picturesque sunsets. Leslie who greeted us was so warm, welcoming and kind every time we saw her. We liked her a lot. We spent a lot of time on the kayaks, paddleboards and paddle boats and got so many good memories from this short stay. Awesome selection of DVDs. I was skeptical at first, but they have old, new and everything in between as well as all genres to choose from. I brought my laptop with downloaded Netflix movies but we never even opened it. We will 100% be back. I can't say enough good things about this place. They provide breakfast of coffee, cereal, yogurt, etc which was more than enough considering I didn't expect any breakfast. Mini fridge in the room and microwave in the common area. And the Lazy Moose in town is the best restaurant/diner u can go to in our opinion. Great food, huge portions. Fresh ice cream. And Poor Garys Pizza in Moose Lake has the best pizza! Rant over :)

We got engaged here the winter of 1999 and came back to celebrate our anniversary! A one night getaway to unplug, relax and connect was perfect. We kayaked around the entire lake, settled in for a peaceful evening and then enjoyed coffee on the dock and a walk the following morning. Leslie greeted us and we enjoyed our time with her as well! The grounds and our room were meticulously cleaned, you can tell the property is loved.

Little gem with amazing hospitality. The gentleman running this resort is wonderfully welcoming and takes great care of the facility. It’s obvious they are continually updating to assure a great experience. We just needed a place to rest our heads this time, but we Will be back to enjoy the grounds more in the future.

We stayed here many times over the years. It feels like coming home. A perfect place to unwind at a beautiful location on Litttle Hanging Horn lake. It is quiet and you can enjoy nature around you. Kayaks and canoes are available for guests to use. Friendly owners. We love this place!

This is such a peaceful and lovely place! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our room overlooked the lake and was spotlessly clean. The owner was very welcoming when she checked us in, and it made a great home base for us to explore Duluth and the surrounding parks. Highly recommended and we will definitely be back!

Our son and daughter-in-law chose to have their wedding ceremony and reception at the Hanging Horn Resort. It was the perfect venue. Emily and Charlie (the owners) went out of their way to ensure that every need was met sometimes even before we had to ask! They were both meticulous to details for their special day, and very friendly and easy to work with throughout the weekend.

The cabins were clean, well maintained, and well furnished with kitchen necessities for our stay. I would highly recommend this destination for either a relaxing getaway or a special event! Fantastic venue! Thank you and well done, Emily and Charlie!

I can't say enough wonderful things about this resort. This is the getaway we look forward to most every year. Charlie and Emily are so personable. It feels like we are going to a friends house for the weekend, but getting spoiled while we are there! The rooms and cabins are always very clean. They are very beautiful with large windows and wonderful woodwork. There is free access to watercrafts which is so fun to go on all the different ones there! We bring our canoe every time because we love to have ours there but they have a great selection of watercrafts to use and we use all the others while we are there too. The lakes are clear and clean. We love to canoe over to the adjacent lakes and adventure. All the rooms have a TV and DVD player and at night we go and select a DVD to watch, which is actually really fun for us. Every time we have came we are greeted so warmly. When celebrating special occasions there, they always go the extra mile and really make us feel special. We love to go there together as a couple, but we also love to bring our daughters there! Highly, highly recommend staying here.

Very beautiful secluded place. Quiet comfortable and basic. Very clean. Staff was very nice as well. No hot food for breakfast except coffee and instant oatmeal. Road in was a little hilly. Snowy and mucky but i managed it with a 2wd truck. Has dvd players in the rooms and free movies. Cool little hangout area as well. Will for sure be coming back.

Hanging Horn was a lovely place to stay. The cabin was spacious and well equipped. The lake was beautiful. I would thoroughly recommend Hanging Horn as a place to stay.
