The Wooden Nickel

Best meal of my life. Had the prime rib on special. It was perfectly cooked and had this ridiculously good pepper bark crust that may be the best I've ever had anywhere. We also got a bison steak which was equally amazing. Never had bison, so can't make a fair comparison, but I'd go back for it. My wife got a French dip and my kids split a burger with onion rings and waffle fries. We all sampled some of everything and literally nothing was a let down. The only down side, if I was forced to give one, is the cost of such a meal. 3 adults and 2 kids had a $230 ticket. We did order some of the more expensive items though. 10 out of 10 would recommend for anyone that doesn't mind spending the money.

This is one of the best restaurants I have been to in a long time. I travel for work so I have been to a bunch of different restaurants!! The food took a little while, but their was a party of ten right before us so that's probably why, but the prime rib was almost 2 inches thick and was absolutely phenomenal!! I recommend this place 100%!! It is a little pricey but the food and service make up for all of that!! If I am ever here working in this town again, I will definitely be back!! It was absolutely the greatest experience tonight! Today happens to be my wife's birthday and to help me celebrate we came to the wooden nickel. And to help me with my birthday gift Morgan help prepare my birthday present for my wife perfectly! She was an amazing waitress and an awesome person! Will definitely be coming back

Very tasty elk tenderloin as well as onion rings and waffle potatoes. The salad is also super tasty.

The family went for dinner over the holiday. The hostess was friendly as can be. As were the bartenders and server. On a cold snowy night in Crested Butte the place was a comfortable/cozy reprieve. It's a warm place with history. The family had the escargot, mussels, soups, salads and elk. It was all delicious. Enjoy a nice meal in this special place.

This pace is amazing! Totally worth the $. Prime rib was so good me and my friend had to come again the next night. Cobb salad is huge and the classic cheese cake, apple pie, and white chocolate rasbery cheese cake were all amazing! Keep up the good work Wooden Nickel!

SO amazing. My boyfriend and I were celebrating a special occasion and we got a free bottle of champagne and fantastic service. Everyone was attentive and the food was delicious! My boyfriend got the prime rib and I got filet mignon. 10/10 recommend!

Place was amazing. Service was amazing. Thank you Ashley! Ashley was an awesome server and made the experience wonderful! Now on to one of the most amazing pieces of meat I have ever had. These guys cooked the back strap of an elk to absolute perfection. Not only cooked perfectly, seasoned perfectly. This is the first time I have had elk, and it did not disappoint. There was a bison steak I had 25 + years ago that all good steaks have been measured to - these guys just took that spot. Crested Butte is an awesome place and this is a restaurant you should try for sure. If the elk is on the menu - try it, it’s awesome!Thanks to Ashely, the butcher and chef for an awesome evening.

Great food. I ordered the coconut shrimp appetizer. Did not disappoint. The Cesar Salad was delicious, and definitely big enough to share. I had grilled lobster tail as my entree, and loved it. Truth told, I could probably have eaten shoe leather if it was dipped in that garlic lemon butter sauce. Very sweet server that gave us just the right amount of attention without hovering.

Truly one of the best places in CBCO! The service is impeccable, the food to die for, and the ambiance makes it worth the entire experience. You will never go wrong choosing Wooden Nickel

I had a delectable Moscow Mule alongside a perfectly-cooked burger and loaded baked potato. Great service from my bartender/server, Caroline.

The food, service and decor of this restaurant are fantastic! Having eaten at many of the best steakhouses in
America, and abroad, I highly recommend the Wooden Nickel in Crested Butte, Colorado.

A buddy and I stopped in tonight for some steak dinners. We had been craving steak and found the prices here to be more reasonable than the restaurant next door so we gave it a try. We got the 12oz ribeye steak dinners with baked potatoes. The food came out in a timely fashion and with excellent service from the staff, Nikki was our waitress and she was very polite and helpful with describing our options. The steaks were done just right, I had a medium and my buddy a medium rare. The marbling of these steaks was excellent, they were full of flavor, best ribeye I’ve had at a restaurant in quite awhile! I’ll be back if I’m in the area again!

Ordered an Old Fashion. In conversation with my wife," I thought that Old Fashions usually come with cherries." I guess the bartender overheard what I was saying to my surprise! Suddenly, he mentioned, " I could give you a cherry". I had told him on thank you so I mentioned," I thought Old Fashions included a black cherry." Answering in confidence, " it depends on where you are from". He had told me he has a history of being a bartender in many parts of the country and people order there Old Fashion many different ways. It was a pleasant conversation and I thanked him for schooling me.
I mentioned I really enjoyed the drink and thought the whiskey was very good. He said, it the well they offer. A Whiskey out of Indiana called, Hirsch. A little surprised that a Local bar that has been there since 1929 uses a liquor for there well based out of Indiana and not Colorado. Surprised not disappointed because that Whiskey was excellent!
I wanted to thank the bartender for taking great care of my wife and I on 12/16/22. Loved the atmosphere especially the green velvet walls.

We got the bison ribeye and the king crab legs - the meal was fantastic! Our server was great as well.

A favorite of mine when visiting Crested Butte. First time I've been to Crested Butte in the fall. Always love to go visit. My first trip was 1986 and it still remains a quaint little community.

The Wooden Nickel was my favorite place for dinner. The food was incredible…… I ate there all three nights( Elk tenderloin, Bison Ribeye, and the grilled salmon). The building, ambiance, the decor, and staff were also beautiful.

Fantastic under new ownership; they've done an amazing job in so many ways. The food was incredible and waitstaff continually checked on us and paced the food perfectly to enjoy a lovely meal. I've been coming here all my life and it sadly went downhill during 2021 but wow, definitely the best meal I had in CB during winter 2022. Can't wait to come back.

This was a great experience. Took the family here on Thanksgiving after skiing. The service was great, and so was everything else. We all got burgers and asked for a side of gruyere cheese to dip it in; this dip is normally paired with a French dip sandwich, but we modified. The burger was outstanding, and I am not exaggerating in the least. Dipping it in the cheese only made it better. My kids and wife were all smiles eating these burgers. We also tried the Shashito peppers, and they were tasty as any we have had.

The other highlight was a Shashito pepper gin martini. It was a drink the bar tender made for the restaurant and, by far, one of my wife and I's favorite drinks we have had anywhere. It was kind of like a Jalapeño Margherita with the heat, but the infused gin with the ginger paired so well. Very unique drink. We will totally be back.
