Great place to go for a little walk and enjoy some fresh air. If you want to walk through nature on a nicely paved path that even a wheelchair could travel on, this is your place. We walked the entire path available, and it totaled a 1.8-mile round trip. Some benches are available along the way if you are into bird watching or want to rest.

This place was sooooo peaceful. All you could hear were birds, frogs, crickets, bees, wasps and the flutter of dragonflies wings as they passed by your ear. I tried to take some videos so y'all could enjoy the serene sound, but 🤷‍♀. So much better than the screaming cicadas at home 😂. The heat here is very undesirable, to say the least. I love the heat, but this is a different kinda heat...but we're also in the direct 🌞 sun! I wish this place was near me. I'd visit daily!

Excellent place to go for a slow sightseeing drive, a bicycle ride, a walk or run. There are two asphalt looped trails, each are about a mile long. The roads in the refuge are wide well-maintained gravel roads with no elevation gain. Roads are straight with very few curves. It’s amazing to hear the flicks of birds take flight and hear a roar of wings. Photographers also flock to the area to capture that perfect bird picture. There are also deer, armadillos, skunks, raccoons, and possums. Giant cottonwoods can also be found in the refuge. Check the calendar to make sure youth hunts are not taking place during your planned time of visit...unless that’s the reason you’re visiting. There are also two boat ramps from which to launch a boat onto the river, and one area to launch onto the south side of Sally Jones Lake. I have kayaked with my elementary school age daughter here for several miles on the river. She really liked the tire sized lilly pads and finding treasures that had washed ashore. Great place to spend a day.

Very peaceful, quiet, not crowded. There are two accessible (paved) 1 mile hikes that you can take your dog on, plus a great auto tour. Saw lots of birds (mostly woodpeckers (many kinds), cardinals, white throated sparrow, hawks/eagles, and various waterfowl when we were there in the late fall, but also brown creeper, hummingbird, titmouse, wren, chickadee, and even an owl), lots of butterflies, and a fair amount of snakes and turtles. Enjoyed it so much we went back the next day! Watch for wasps around the restrooms. Stay on the trails because some of the snakes are copperheads. Signage is pretty good and the road is in great condition.

I have been here a couple of times, but I’ve always wanted to be here right as the sun was about to set. Well I finally was able to watch it go down as I drove through the park. I was able to get some nice pictures.

Go experience this for yourself. The wanderlust is worth the winding roads to get there. The trees dont even seem real. It's like... normal trees, normal trees, normal trees... then fairytale giants. Go play.

I drove threw the whole place. It's very peaceful, you here and see all kinds of beautiful birds like cardinals and blue Jays. There's water flowing everywhere you turn and that's so tranquil. This is the perfect place to go and relax if you're feeling stressed or just want to get away to gather your thoughts or just to go enjoy the beauty of nature.

Awesome driving loops with two paved hiking trails. Saw 4 snakes (N Cottonmouth and Western Ribbon), eagles, egrets, herons, blue winged teals, cormorants, Canadian geese, Scissor Tail flycatcher, and some ravens and vultures.

Nice place to stop on your way through. Nice trails for a family walk. Plenty of room to get an RV in as we pulled into the visitor center with a 47' ShowHauler with a Jeep Unlimited Rubicon being flat towed.
