Fairyland State Natural Area

I was one of 7 or so people to first step foot on the Forest Lodge property after the donation to the Forest Service by Mary before she died. All of the buildings were in rough shape. There is a field (or was) on the property on the lake to the west of the boat house. We camped there with no electricity or water while we rebuilt the greenhouse the first year. Magical place. The field of grass and flowers is what was "fairy land" to Mary when she was a child. So the fairy land area that is designated is not the real "fairy land" but part of the property. If anyone sees this that had access to the main house and the library/pictures like we did, please let me know if you have or found the picture of the little girl next to the giant Musky hanging from the roof of the main house. I believe it was well over 80 pounds and was the real world record before they knew what records were. Thank you.

Gorgeous plant community!! The skeeters were thick but we had some relief in the bog/meadow boardwalk area. Beautiful hemlocks and lots of mushrooms after the recent rains.

Awesome walk through the woods in one of my favorite places on earth. The hikes are all loops, so you can choose how long you want to go fairly easily. The forest is mature, featuring tons of moss, fungus, very old trees and a super cool bog. The trails are fairly well maintained, but might be slick and contain tons of roots- so watch your step!

This trail felt magical with moss-covered trees and ground. It was so peaceful. It was chilly so we did a very short loop and it was a perfect stress-reliever during these crazy times.

Nice & short trail. This is well marked and they have a box for guide books & they are very informative.
