Knickerbocker Tavern

Really nice place!!! Great service as well, super nice waitress, and overall good vibe. I’m not from this area and was recommended this place for a quick (and delicious) bite to eat. For sure give this place a try if you’re in the area!

Don’t be fooled by the ugly exterior. Corner bar vibe with pro level cocktails. Bartender is a mixologist not a beer slinger. A glass of room temperature water accompanies all cocktails. You find that in five star restaurants in Manhattan. Cool place.

Great staff, lovely atmosphere, and amazing food. The staff was helpful and allowed us to have our dogs. It is one of the only places in Altoona that is dog friendly. The food is delicious and worth the money. I will stop by again next time in town. - I wanted to add more. Our server Zach was exceptional, quick-witted, prompt, and knowledgeable about the menu. He offered to open the courtyard, off-season (early April), for us to dine with our three dogs.

If I could put a six, I would! We got the fish and chips, the Cobb salad, and the super smash burger. The fish and chips was the best fish and chips I have ever had and I absolutely recommend! The Cobb salad super fresh and had a very tasty sauce (the mustard vinaigrette) . We always get Cobb salad in places, and that was the best! The burger was good. The fries were great. We also got the Knickerbocker Manhattan and it was perfect!

LOVE THIS PLACE! Food was excellent! Fresh ingredients, creative selections yet familiar/comfort-y😋 and generous portions.
Service was top notch. Solicitous without being suffocating 👍 Courses came in perfect succession. No wait - no rush.
Atmosphere was cozy but not crowded. What more can you ask for...oh wait...the prices were more than fair. Winner, winner no matter what's for dinner 🥰

I really enjoy going to the Knickerbocker. My husband and I have been with both s sets of parents, and they always marvel at this hidden gem. The patio seating is our favorite - so lush with greenery and landscaping, quaint brick and mortar walls completely encircling it. Staff have always been very pleasant and helpful. And how fun they they have an entire non-alcoholic bar menu - n/a tequila and gin even!

Small note: this is not handicap-accsssible. Small stairs to get into the restaurant, steps throughout the seating, and non-accessible bathrooms.

Amazing food and drinks,, with ample seating and great service. In good weather,, the outdoor patio is the best place to eat.. The grilled Ceasar salad, garlic tomato bisque is my absolute favorite! Can't wait to go back!

By far the best food and beverages in the area. We drive from
State College often because the food, drinks and service are superb!

Today we went for the Dancing Gnome Tap Takeover and it was outstanding. The beer was delicious and the tasting menu to pair was even better. Drunken Noodles and Green Chicken Curry were the perfect pairing.

Leiden our server was EXCELLENT! He was attentive, fun and gave allllll the right recommendations!

Excellent food, decent service, and a really neat spot, inside or out.. but the patio is a whole vibe on its own! I loved the Miso Salmon but could've eaten double the portion given!! Will gladly come back if work brings me again.

Super impressed with this place! Didn’t know what to expect, but the menu was 45 pages long (!) and the whiskey selection is on point. They even have a brand of Gin I love that is very hard to find. This trip was more about the food though— My husband and I got the French Dip with fresh cut fries. Everything was fresh and the roll was crusty and fresh. We got the Brussels sprouts app and WOW was it good! I got the tomato bisque soup: also delicious. My hubs got the chili: very chunky and not watered down at all. My FIL got a Cuban: having lived in Miami, this isn’t exactly what you might expect, but it was loaded with the goods and delicious none the less. Service was great and atmosphere was comfy. Excited to get back in the warmer weather, sit in their beautiful outdoor space, and sip some spirits.

Fish & Chips is always delicious. Their apps are amazing and the changing menu offers a variety of dishes. I've never had something off their menu that I didn't like! Burgers are amazing as well.

Came from out of town for a work event, had a wonderful time at this bar! The ambience is very cozy and inviting, the staff were so friendly + accommodating, the food was incredible, and the beer/cocktail selection is top notch!

If I'm ever back in the Altoona area, I will most definitely be dropping back in.

this place was food heaven!!!!! i highly recommend it and everything on the menu looks amazing. my bf and i tied the orchard cider amazing!!! the crab dip they said had been on the menu for 20 years phenomenal!!!! i had the pretzel turkey sandwich one the mustard was amazing the potato salad was homemade and flavorful. my bf had the philly cheesesteak there was so much to pick from and all locally fresh ingredients. we will be back for sure!!!!!

Altoona really has a gem in Knickerbocker Tavern. This place is a nice hipster joint that accommodates for table or bar seating. They have an extensive whiskey selection as seen in the bar display and also have a variety of cocktails and beer selections with an Untapped check-in. Our bartender was super knowledgeable on their different liquor and you could tell he loved working there. He brought the energy and enthusiasm. The food was fantastic as well. I ordered the lamb meatball pasta and it was loaded with flavor and a nice kick to it. The fried brussel sprouts were a winner too. All of the food
is made with unique ingredients and you can’t go wrong with anything here. Can’t wait to come back.

My fiance and I came and sat at the bar for dinner and drinks. The bartender was incredibly friendly and made the best espresso martini! The smash burger and filet were both delicious, but the best bite of the night was undoubtedly the tuna tartar appetizer with Wonton chips. Can't wait to go back!

I can't say enough. I remember my husband taking me here on a date and originally I thought what is this hole.in.the wall from the outside. Upon entering it is so quaint and welcoming. The wings!! It is what I get them everytime!! They are huge, super crispy and perfectly flavored. It is a staple everytime we go back to PA!

Don't let the looks of this old historic building keep you from goi g in. Small bar that has backroom and outdoor dining space. It serves a nice variety of brews and has an awesome selection of whiskey......like a few hundred!!! If you enjoy bourbon you must hit this tavern. The wings were delicious.....similar to those at the Anchor Bar in Buffalo. The entrees were on point and service was professional.

Their drinks are BANGING!! I only havd maybe 2-3 drinks and I was definitely feeling it. Though, they are a little pricey. But, their food is also pretty amazing too! I had the sandwich in a pretzel bun, which was pretty good. But their Lobster Dip, is to die for. One thing I really haven't had the chance, but really want to try is their baked potato bar, never had a restaurant with that before!

This is my second home. Cocktails/liquor selection: unmatched. Rotating craft beer menu verified on untappd: perfection. Food: smaller menu but everything is 🔥. Prolly the most hospitable place in the area. Everyone greets you and thanks you for coming on your way out.

Your first time there can be a bit intimidating. You kinda walk in to this small, dark dive bar sorta thing and no idea where to sit. But once you learn you can seat yourself (and walk straight thru to the back to the left) it becomes a lot easier lol. Someone will always be there to serve you within minutes.

The Kourtyard is super cozy during the warmer months and I'm excited for them to open it back up. The entire atmosphere is just awesome.

It's very very rare to have a lackluster experience here. This is prolly the best place to go within 75 miles. Seriously, people from out of state know about it and have talked about it when we're striking up conversations on vacation.

They need merch. I would buy all of it.

We loved our experience at the Knickerbocker tavern! Great vintage bar vibe and decor, tvs for the game and great music. Quaint little spot (we sat inside at a booth since it was 30* and windy) It was a wings and youngling special night and the wings were some of the best I've had. I am a wing guy and quite picky but these are right on!(Go Bills) The sauce (traditional hot) was the perfect heat and they were cooked perfectly, saucy but still crispy, blue cheese was made in house and was great. Beers were cheap and cold and the waiter and waitress were nice. Very great experience.
