The Butcher Shoppe / Big Oak Cafe

I have always considered this little grocery store the heartbeat of Chambersburg….everyone we know comes here….prepared easy meals for busy families, easily portioned meals for older residents not wanting two quarts of ham and green beans, just enough for a meal or two- single professionals not needing to make huge portions, everyone can use it-nice easy portions for convenience- fresh produce and meats, and my favorite, whoever helps you or you talk to here is so pleasant and they talk so nicely to co-workers and customers alike- a breath of fresh air, nice food choices and select vegetables and truly kind people. For Saturdays and sports games they are right around the corner from the park, and to grab a quick meal for after school sports and activities they are again in the perfect location- I would suggest morning shopping if you have the luxury, pulling out when school gets out is a tough time to maneuver traffic but it doesn’t impact the taste of the food or convenience-there are local suppliers for many choices-What’s not to like 😉

This place is wonderful!! Everything I have purchased is fresh and tastes so good!! From fresh produce, to fresh-cut meats, to regular grocery items (such as milk, eggs, and bread), they have a wide variety of items! Don't forget about the ready-made packaged food/meals!! They have so much more than pasta salads in that area!! Delicious soups, potpie, packaged meals like lasagna, meatloaf and mashed potatoes, French toast bake...even General Tao's chicken and rice!! Oh! And definitely treat your sweet tooth to the amazing assortment of cakes, cookies, pies, and other wonderful desserts!! All so tasty! Don't forget about the cafe!! Or even stop by and get a pizza, or a sub or a salad fresh and made to order...or a frozen mocha!! This place truly has it all ...and so very fresh and delicious!! Friendly staff and reasonable prices top off the experience! I wish they had another store closer to me, but until then, I'll drive to this place!! I'd give them ten stars if I could!!

If you're ever in Chambersburg, this place is a must go to. Their baked goods are some of the best I've ever had. I stopped here at least 2 to 3 times a week for ready to eat dinners and baked goods. Wonderful place!

I'm visiting from Vermont. This is a very nice, clean, well organized shop.... more than a butcher shop, though. It's a bakery, deli, butcher shop, including fish, sandwich shop. It's a treat to visit and find quality foods and top notch service, where you can eat in or take it home.

Got the best delmonico steaks of my life here! Very high quality meats. Would love to check out the Café but I've yet to.

Fresh salads, a variety of soups, baked goods, pastries...they have it. Great for business travelers who don't have a kitchen to prepare meals. This place offers home cooked meals at a great price. Travelers passing by Chambersburg who need prepackaged food should drop by here...especially those on a camping trip. Love this shop!

This place is even better since the remodel everything is bigger and even more selections to chose from love their products especially the meat department and the salad bar. The Cafe is wonderful.

We made a special stop just to go here. We got the cheese dip. It was delicious. They had some unique things there. We also got some special chips and I can't remember the name of them. They were in a white bag with brown on top. It had two names. It was someone and someone.

Nice place to stop and get a coffee. Better than the chain coffee places. Staff was friendly, and there were a lot of snack options available too.

The butcher shop has different counters for different items so they are able to have a bigger variety of items and variety they do have! Everything you get from here is top notch!

Well if you think butcher shop only sells meats this place will have you fooled. I have nothing negative to say about this place and as you can see by everyone else’s reviews this place has earned its respect by being friendly and courteous. Depending on what time you come here there may be a line of people and they normally move quickly. If you come here you will like what you see !

New to the area. So glad I learned of the butcher shoppe. Excellent deli counter. Love the English muffin bread. Nice selection of fruit and vegetables.
Pleased with the showcasing of local products( Mr Falafel: baba ganoush & Hummus, Veroni salsas, and Wild Annie's chips and dip.

Great place to meet friends and business acquaintances for coffee and breakfast. Easy to find, and quick to get to from anywhere in the Chambersburg area. Consistently 5 stars across the board. Great for early risers, opens at 6 am.
