I am on Medical Assistance. Radiology Associates refused to accept Blue Cross Anthem Medicaid and is billing me the full amount. Their billing office is a call center located in India and if they do answer the phone, you cannot understand them, other than telling me I have no choice to pay the bill. This isn't the first time this has happened to me, I have had the same problems no matter what the insurance company is. At least now I can file a Medicaid Fraud complaint with the Wisconsin Office of Inspector General.

Please note this review is solely based on Radiology Associates of Appleton automated payment system. I have tried multiple times to pay my bill from Radiology Associates of Appleton using their mobile pay, using their online pay link AND their automated phone system. When trying to pay the bill I received error messages every.single.time. Tired of looking at this statement on my counter I called the 833 number to pay the bill. After clicking through a number of prompts I was connected to a customer service rep who I could not understand (and coincidentally was unable to assist me in paying my balance due.) The only words I was able to decipher were, "our system is updating" at which point I decided to end the phone call. The frustration of paying the bill wasn't worth raising my blood pressure, at least not today.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Was told multiple times that my bill was covered but still received bills in the mail. I got sick of playing their games and just decided to pay it. I was told to contact my insurance 1 more time before processing and I agreed to call back next week. Turns out, Radiologists of Appleton decided to send my balance to collections without trying to call me EVEN ONCE the day after I spoke to their customer service billing department. Apparently the rep I spoke to "didn't leave any notes" so I was basically told, "so sorry but there's nothing else we can do" Now I have to call a collections agency over a very small balance and hope it doesn't effect my credit score. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS IF POSSIBLE.

I made a monthly payment plan to pay $51/month until my bill is paid. They have taken out the last 5 months of my payment plan of $51 and I got a collections notice. I called and they asked me to pay my bill. I said no I’m on a payment plan since July and my payments are being made I will remain on my plan for the next 3 months until it’s paid off. Not sure if my payments are not being applied or not but they said they will email the collection agency and have them remove my acct. I am not holding my breath. Not sure how this company is in business by reading all the reviews. They need to be shut down

If I could give negative stars I would. I have been going back and forth with them for months on my bill. My husbands employer pays half our deductible and they put the payment on the wrong claim. I was told there was a credit on my account, but I still owe the full amount for the most recent claim (half of which was paid). Apparently they are going to pocket the extra money, as I have spoken with “supervisors” on multiple occasions to be told that they found the issue and would send it to review and it would be fixed, and to call back in 10 days. Then call back and start from square one with no documentation of the prior call and being told I owe the full amount. No one indicates the credit but then verifies it when I ask about it. Why wouldn’t the credit be automatically applied to the balance? I was told by one of the reps that it would be returned after 6-8 business days. This was from March, it is now August.. so it’s been well over. What a joke, I wonder how many people they have ripped off.

Had service in September, paid the bill in full in October, got a call from a bill collecton agency yesterday (March 9) threatening me and saying I hadn't paid. We used our HSA and have proof, but based on what I read here, I might have a fight ahead of me. Feels like some type of lawsuit or professional intervention is needed. Anyone know where else they could be reported? The better business bureau?

If there was an option for zero, I would find it. The radiology department is fine. The billing department is awful. The billing department is completely incompetent. Terrible experience.

I had an emergency room visit at ThedaCare Appleton in February. They all, 3 different bills at the same place, billed my personal insurance instead of the VA. I got the other 2 fixed because I received a bill from them. Here they did not have my address entered correctly so I never received a bill from them. They sent me to collections for the bill in September. I got a notice on my credit report 3 months later for a major delinquency payment. I contacted them and said it had to be a mistake. They also had my address wrong so I never received a bill from them either. Now for a week I’ve been trying to contact them about getting it billed correctly. It took me calling the third party billing and asking for the name of them company she works for and the address, the supervisors name, so they can get it taken care of with my attorney, before I received a call back. Now I have to wait for this billing to get straight, my credit to be repaired so I can go on with my financial and personal life. I will never use their services again!

My review pertains to billing. I never received a bill for a payment and one fine day, I get a "Final Notice, we will send to collections blah blah..."

Seriously, I would let you send me to collections over a few bucks (<50)! Come on now! Check you records. I have made all the previous payments of much more, way before the due date. But I can't pay if I don't receive a bill.

Further, when I tried to pay the bill online on imaginepay.com, it doesn't show any bills due for payment. When I try their automated phone system, no bill there either.

Last, when I spoke to the billing associate about the above experience, he didn't seem to care about it.

Update your systems or the ones handling billing. A little customer courtesy goes a long way.

If I could give 0 stars I would. We received a bill. Called about paying it. Lady informed us there was no balance. Great. Had been going through cancer treatment so there had been a lot of bills to wade through. Less than a month later I received a call from a collections agency. They said we in fact did have a balance. Interesting. Called radiology associates back, they said yes it had in fact been sent to collections even after they told us it had been paid. Fine. Paid it directly to them, and they said they would pull it from collections. 2 days later collections calls again. We still show a balance. Weird you shouldn't. Called radiology back a 3rd TIME!!!! They can't tell on their end if it's been paid or not. It really should be simple. Is it paid or not?! It seems they use a 3rd party for billing and you get a runaround everytime you call. Will keep you posted if collections calls again.

I would give zero if possible. Billing is impossible to get corrected. Going on over 6 months of repeatedly calling, emailing and asking for a bill to actually just get submitted to insurance and yet, still not submitted, still not corrected, still having to call back every couple of weeks to follow up and ask again. I can only imagine the auto message that says higher than usual call volume is because every patient has to call back to get stuff straightened out that is not corrected. Wish Theda did not force the usage of this company in certain instances to avoid going around and around.

They double charged me on 3 separate bills back in 2020. In 2021 I confronted them and by the end of 2021 they said they would refund me. Today 2023! I received one refund of $28?! How are you still in business?

MATTER ONLY RESOLVED AFTER FILING COMPLAINT WITH WISCONSIN DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, TRADE AND CONSUMER PROTECTION. This got someone from Madison Wisconsin assigned as a mediator to our case and was eventually resolved in our favor.

Received in-network service here on 10/18/2021. Received an EOB (explanation of benefits) from my insurance carrier showing Radiology Associates of Appleton, SC billing amount, discount, and amount my health insurance paid. The EOB showed that my health insurance paid the balance in full. I later received a bill from Radiology Associates for a balance due, they balance billed me the discount rate that my health insurance had on my EOB. I contacted my health insurance and they stated that is not allowed, that they would contact Radiology Associates, and not to pay the bill. My insurance company called me back and said that Radiology Associates will send me a corrected bill and that it is taken care of. I received a billing statement from Radiology Associates of Appleton, SC stating they still wanted the balance billed amount (amount not allowed per my EOB) and that it is their final attempt to collect and that they would be sending me to collections.

They did not fix my bill like they told my health insurance company they would do. Then they threated me with collections.

It was a small amount, so I paid the balance in full, as I do not want to deal with collections.

I then decided to file some formal complaints with government regulatory agencies regarding this. Just an FYI BBB complaints do not carry much weight, are not part of the government, and a response is not required.

I filed complaints to:

CMS -Federal Regulatory Body that issues NPI numbers to medical care providers

DATCP - Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection

I also intend to file a complaint to the following:

DSPS - WI Department of Safety & Professional Services - The body that issues medical licenses in WI

I am undecided on filing complaints to:

Wisconsin Department of Health Services - more concerned about malpractice than shady billing practices

Wisconsin Office of the Comissioner of Insurance - This would be more forcing my health insurance company to take steps to resolve the matter.

I went into ER for a miscarriage. Got a bill I was never supposed to see because of VA authorization number AND second insurance. They billed me for a charge that was not even billable because in the agreement with insurance it is a write off. They sent me to collections and then changed companies and I can’t get ahold of anyone. Now the third party who is working with their Billing is saying they don’t even see my bill so can’t even call the old collections because they don’t have my account. I tried to go into an Appleton location to speak with them and they don’t even have a reception area. How is this place even still in business. I am contacting the BBB. Taking advantage of people in vulnerable situations. And how can’t ThedaCare even contract with them?

They sent a bill to collections and never sent it to me. They did not apply the appropriate funds and show an itemized bill as promised. They then said they would remove from collections and correct and they have never done that.

Not impressed with billing dept. The paper bill was very vague which seemed like spam when I got it in the mail. It took three phone calls just to find out what the charges were for, and another two just to pay. I asked for a mailed receipt for my payment which I STILL have not received. A place that makes themselves sound so wonderful should find a better company to handle their billing. It’s a surprise they ever get paid.

Horrible communication. Nobody ever answers in the scheduling dept to actually schedule the procedure. Waiting days with STAT orders! STAT clearly doesn’t mean anything to Theda Radiology services…

I have had the worst experience with Radiology Associate's Billing department. If I could encourage you to go somewhere else, I would pay to advertise an alternative solution! However, as a patient and limited options in the Fox Valley, this is our only option. I have been trying to work with Radiology Associates since June 2020 on a bill that I received that I was incorrectly charged for 2 x-rays and to have the second x-ray removed. After talking to 6 different people and never receiving a call back from a supervisor that I was promised multiple times, I get a bill in the mail from a collection agency. Now, trying to call Radiology Associates, they changed who is handling their billing and the new billing phone number can't find my account but somehow have an outstanding balance yet. No one knows what's going on and no one can help. So frustrating!

I cannot believe the pain that someone has to go through to get a bill paid. I’ve contacted the insurance company I’ve tried dozens of times to contact radiology associates. I am reaching out in anyway I can to get a bill that we never knew was coming before it goes to collections. Now I understand it is off to collections in a few days and I will have to take care of it from here. There has to be a way to solve this problem and after this problem is solved. there has to be a way to hold this company accountable.

Like every other review so far, the billing is where they get you. They outsource to a 3rd party so you can't talk to anyone directly in the organization and like any 3rd party billing company, they just know what they are given. In my case (and I suspect in others here too), I paid up front for MRI service to be done. About a month or so later I received an invoice for this service. After much back and forth with the billing company, it turns out that what I actually paid for was the in person visit. What they don't tell you up front is that you then have to pay for them to "read" your results (i.e. the invoice that came a month later). The invoice and what I had paid up front were almost identical, so that's where the confusion came in. The 3rd party billing company has no knowledge of this so of course they aren't helpful. They said they would look into it and call me back (which never happened). To their credit, I did leave voicemail feedback for RAoA and a rep from the billing company called back and explained that I was paying for the results reading. However, the fact that they don't state this up front is very shady and resulted in me paying for a preventative service check that I would have never agreed to had I known total cost. Lesson learned, but I would advise people to understand all costs up front...and to never use the services at Radiology Associates of Appleton...which is exactly what I will be doing.
