Omaha Bike Trail Tunnel

We were camping in the area and heard about this very cool tunnel, decided to go hike through it and wow! Its ominous looking and inspired a few ghost stories im sure, but definitely worth checking out, plus the bike trails in this area are just stunning. Absolutely top notch. Bring a good flashlight!

Nice little rail trail in a beautiful part of Wisconsin. Anytime there is a tunnel, a trail is a winner for me. Please note, this is a COUNTY trail as opposed to a STATE trail. As such you will need to purchase a separate pass. It is currently $2 for daily use.

A really beautiful trail! The trail surface needs some maintenance. It is paved asphalt, but is decomposing, so you really need to watch where you're riding.

It's a little bit scary at first and usually quite muddy BUT where else can you bike through a tunnel several hundred feet beneath the surface? Though I wouldn't suggest trying it with your narrow tired road back. This is definitely perfect for a fat tired mountain bike.

The entire trail is open (contrary to the Juneau County website). Beautiful scenery. Several food options in Hustler. Do it!

We read that this is the "training tunnel" for later doing the Elroy-Sparta trail, and that's accurate. 25 lumen headlamp would not cut it in a longer tunnel. Approaches from both sides are gentle inclines. The Omaha Trail needs some TLC, as the old asphalt is getting REALLY worn and rough for bikes.

I ended up on this while looking for the Elroy-Sparta trail (oops!). The trail itself was at one time asphalt (?), but is very bumpy.
The tunnel: not the same feel as the ones on the E-S trail. No water dripping, it's smaller, and it feels creepy. Honestly I couldn't wait to get out of there. It's almost like the darkness absorbed the light from my headlight making it hard to see. If you're looking for a Halloween experience, by all means check it out. I won't be back.

Bike trail eeds resurfacing, weeds growing through asphalt, potholes. Loosr Gravel patches. Otherwise I would give a better rating.
Time to reinvest the user fees into maintenance!
