Fernwood State Forest

I’m not local to the area so I’ve only come here a handful of times. I live about an hour and a half away but love coming to the gun ranges here. Always nice and maintained

What Better place to spend your 65th. BIRTHDAY. THANKS TO ALL THE RANGERS STAFF MEMBERS FIRN WOOD FORREST COUNTY SHERRIFS And CAMPERS For all ya do. My stay here is Gratitude. Only 12 Miles to Cadiz 10 miles to Steubinville and 4 miles to route 22. Has Fishing and Gun Ranges. 4 Years ago I caught a Super 10# Catfish. Took me 10 Minutes to reel it in. Was taller than a Five Gallon Bucket by 4". Staff Member Dan said it must be a Channel Cat in that small pond you caught. JESUS IS THE WAY. Amen

I love this forest. It's so beautiful and peaceful. They have just about everything from fishing to gun ranges, and camping. It's a great place to just unwind, and enjoy nature.

Absolutely loved every moment my boyfriend and I were there..great views and so much to see. Trust me when I say we will be back to explore way more!

It's free, what more can you want? Yeah patrons are lazy and do not clean up after themselves but it could be so much worse. Always a great time for family bonding or to let off some steam.

Amazing state forest campground. Sites are clean as is the vault toilets. Plenty of shade and a few spots for solar. No dump station or electric. There is a hand pump well on-site but we do not know the condition of the water source. I would recommend that you filter it just as you would raw water from a stream or river.

I absolutely love using the gun ranges there!

Park is nice and has a great view. Picnic area is sub par but still ok place to get away.

Camping is free, it was quiet and clean with the exception of the pit toilets, which were really gross if I'm being honest, and wasps had made their home in them...yikes, but still...free is free. Not much flat space for tent camping, but they provide raised driveways for vehicles and we just put our tent up there. All in all a halfway decent place to camp for literally 0$, so cant really complain.

This was the perfect campground to test out my new car camper! Beautiful simple campground, always well maintained, friendly campers all around.

There is definitely rich wildlife here!! The campground was nicely maintained and on the upper tier of things. Especially for a free campgrpund.

The shooting range is very nice.

New shooting range is awesome! Can't believe how nice they made it. I hope people don't destroy it for us! They do need to put out some trash cans or a dumpster. That would go a long way towards encouraging people to clean the place up.

Great place to go and relax, wish the local police force would take care of the hooligans that keep doing doughnuts in the grass and building bonfires where they arent supposed to. The hiking trail behind their office is about 4 miles long and recently redone so that there is less water issues and it'll be wider, along with better access if somebody happened to get hurt back in the woods there. Some nice areas that are gonna be great for grouse hunting in a few years time. Great gun ranges that are being redone and should be completed by July 2019! The camping is nice, but wish they could take care of the stink in the latrines. Overall an awesome place that is FREE to use!

I love camping here! There are 22 sites. It's always clean,peaceful and quiet . Even on a weekend, I have yet to see the place full. There is no water or hookups, no firewood for sale and the nearest store is miles away, except for a gas station in the town of Bloomington....so make sure you come prepared.

Went fishing there and had a blast catching some largemouth looking forward to going again soon.... if you havent yet definetly check it out very nice place

Fernwood state forest is one of the best state forest in the state of Ohio !! They have plenty of camping lots of hiking trails nice spots for a little kids to fish they also have a gun range of vista plenty of bathrooms and very very safe constantly patrolled which we are very thankful for had numerous family events at Fernwood State Forest come on down bring your friends and family just take your trash with you when you leave ! Try to keep our forest nice and remember only you can prevent wildfires

Such a beautiful and tranquil atmosphere and an excellent place to watch meteor showers. Also, the view is breathtaking.

Beautiful trails , easy free parking , out houses and non potable water only ,friendly people , so friendly that when my blind dog was lost , others helped , he was lost for two days and was found by people 3/4 of a mile away , in the mountainous hills and cliff and ravines,,, thank you fernwood forest !
