I visited 8/6/22. This old cemetery for Goshen/Darby Creek Friends Meeting established around 1807 was surprisingly well kept. I believe this to be the site of Darby Creek Meeting. There is space to park off the road in mown grass. According to William Wade Hinshaw's Encyclopedia of American Genealogy, "Goshen Monthly Meeting, Logan Co., Ohio, is located about one mile east of Zanesfield, Ohio." The Goshen Cemetery at the junction of CR152 and 28 is 1.2 miles east of Zanesfield. He writes, "There was also another meeting, not many miles away on Darby Creek, called Darby Creek." Typical of Friends, the headwaters of Darby Creek are southeast of this "Quaker Cemetery." Members came here from NC, but also from PA and eastern OH. Many Friends cemeteries did not permit headstones, but the meeting kept records of plots. I suspect a meetinghouse and more graves were under the overgrown brush and trees. A prominent headstone decorated with a flag is for Elwood Fawcett, a Union Soldier in the Civil War who died at age 19. According to his Find A Grave entry, he died at home of pneumonia after his service. Elwood's father, Ambrose Jackson Fawcett married Mary Gwynn in Harrison County, Ohio in 1841. Jackson was received into membership at Goshen Monthly Meeting in March 1866, 4 years after his son died. Henry and Mary (McCall) Carson are two other headstones. Mary was disowned from Westland Monthly Meeting near Washington, PA in Jan of 1832 for marrying contrary to discipline. Jackson is the only of these people listed in Hinshaw's records for Goshen/Darby Monthly Meeting.
